I like the Merrill part, I don't think the guy realizes that it's a bug.

Emperor Iaius I wrote...

I'm still not sure I believe the demon. It told Marethari that it would jump out and possess Merrill so that Marethari would free the demon. There's no reason to suggest that a demon--bound to the statue, not the mirror (which isn't even there)--could leap out. The mirror is from Ferelden, it has nothing to do with the demon in the statue.

The mirror is the focus for some kind of portal-magic.  Where the portal goes can apparently be changed: the corrupted mirror apparently takes Tamlen to the Deep Roads; Morrigan uses a different one it to go "beyond the Fade;" Merrill thinks they were used to jump between elven cities; and Ariane's Keeper, Solan, thought 'eluvian' was a place (either a place the portal led, or perhaps Solan was just confused).

The demon is bound to the statue.  It's got at least one way out: possess a mage (which it does to Marethari).

It doesn't seem impossible that the eluvian could be another way out, if the right steps are taken.  Just like darkspawn taint linked the eluvian to the Archdemon, the right blood magic ritual could link it to the demon.  Then open a portal from where the demon is bound to the mortal world.  Once it's in the mortal world, it has some options, one of which is apparently forcibly possessing Merrill.  (I'm not sure, but I'd guess this is something similar to what happened to Sophia Dryden.  She's not a mage, so she wasn't possessed the normal way; Avernus summoned demons over, and eventually one of them took a ride in Dryden.)

The eluvian certainly didn't originally have anything to do with the demon but it doesn't seem at all unreasonable to think that it's a tool the demon could exploit.

(Edit: I spel ril gud)

And if you then take into consideration that it's the trapped demon who taught Merrill the blood magic she should use to what she believed was cleaning the mirror from the taint... the plot kind of thickens.

Hi. I need a little help with something for a fanfic. Does anyone have any full length screenshots of Merrill in her default outfit.

Merril is probably one of my favourite characters in the game, mostly because Eve Myles (who voices her) comes from the same village as me. It's nice to hear a familiar accent.

Heh, I was one of the first people to see and comment on that on deviantART. And no, Poly didn't realize it was a bug until I mentioned it to her.

Where'd all that fanart go? Just because we can see Merrill in the game, doesn't mean that fanart is unnecessary.

I'm currently working on a 4-page comic that features the DA2 gang, but mostly my mage Hawke and Merrill. I'm hoping to have the first page or two done by the end of the weekend. I'll link it here when it's done.

I'm looking forward to seeing it!

So full of win!

Especially the Merrill and Anders part.

And Merrill dryly saying "I think I have to become a demon's snack." while being shaked back and forth was just fantastic.

I must say I didn't really get Merrill's plotline. Maybe the fact that I never got the last cutscene with her has to do with it.

But really, going through all that drama, pacts with demons, blood magic and clan killing just for the sake of elvish history? Or was she actually trying to accomplish something else entirelly with the eluvian?

She's the only blood mage in the village.

*eta* could've done with more welsh accents in the camp though, only one NPC had a welsh accent along with Merrill, the rest were a bunch of regional Irish accents.

Oh well, since most foreigners people can't tell the difference between English and Australian, why bother >:|

If you go back a few pages (394, I think), I posted a WIP of the first page. No speech bubbles, shading or backgrounds yet, but Hawke and gang are all inked. :)

I think the writers explained that when they tried finding a bunch of Welsh actors to play the Dalish they had quite a bit of trouble in actually getting any. The most prominent one they found obviously being Eve Myles. They ended up settling for Irish in the end I suppose.

I've noticed a lot of Welsh saying that's alright they guess, as long as they don't get mixed up with the Brits.

Merrill is supposed to be an import from another clan so while not intentional this may be a neat side-effect, making her stand out more as not one of them.

While it is slightly a long shot that's how I sorta dealt with it too.

Merrill is from Navarra, exported to Ferelden when she was four because of her ability and Marethari's need for a first.

 I've been wondering something.
Mary Kirby(talking about the "virginal girl-next-door thing"): "Er... Jennifer was talking archetype, not describing the actual sexual history of any of the characters."
Weird question coming up.
Does that mean Merrill isn't a virgin?

I still hoped it never would. How naive.

The direction this thread is taking disturbs me.

I kinda got the impression that she might have been sleeping with that elf guy that runs into the varethal.

Pol? I doubt it. They might have liked each other though.

Ugh, if we're going to have this discussion, let's just get it out of the way.

Remember Cammen and Geyna (or whatever their names were) from Zathrian's clan? Their dialogue implied that Dalish apparently don't even give gifts to each other unless they're married. So yes, Merrill was probably a virgin.

Next topic please.

Hey, I don't want to talk about anything weird other than this. It was just a question that was bothering me.
