Yes Pol.

Anyway is Merrill's romance bugged or does it work fine? I'm asking because some people (myself included) can't get her last companion cutscene to trigger.

Her romance shouldn't be bugged no.

Pol was a player. One woman in the camp flirts (and suggests something) with him when you first go there.

I'm still not sure I believe the demon. It told Marethari that it would jump out and possess Merrill so that Marethari would free the demon. There's no reason to suggest that a demon--bound to the statue, not the mirror (which isn't even there)--could leap out. The mirror is from Ferelden, it has nothing to do with the demon in the statue.

Certainly that's a possibility. At the same time though, it can be safely said that demons don't really help people out of goodness of their heart and look after their own interests first and foremost. As such, it's rather given that there was something beneficial for the demon either in the act of fixing the mirror itself, or in whathever it was that the demon was planning to extort from Merrill in exchange for the help in fixing it.

Or the demon Audacity planned all along for Marethari to make a deal in order to protect Merrill from any risk. We also have no idea how Merrill would have handled the demon, because Marethari acts before we can get any idea about how Merrill had planned to handle Audacity.

And how many times has Hawke said, "I'm going to do something stupid and horribly dangerous. Come along and help me?"

How many times that happens depends entirely on the Hawke you're playing. The argument pretty much falls apart if you don't.

Although Hawke doesn't have to bring Merrill specifically, he does involve himself (and others) in very dangerous situations.

tmp7704 wrote...

Also, not all things horribly stuping and dangerous are equally stupid and dangerous. While the game fails to actually show it when push comes to shove, an unleashed pride demon is supposed to be on top of the danger scale, to the point where lore states how "a greater pride demon brought across the Veil would threaten the entire world". Out of all examples you give only one in on the equal scale, and it's entirely optional.

Yet Merrill knows that Hawke has handled abominations, demons, dragons, darkspawn, and Qunari. She would trust that he could handle himself to deal with an abomination if it ever came to that.

Bugged being the key word, and no the romance is fine, its her companion quest,  A New Path, that is bugged, moving the end cutscene to the beginning of act 3

I assume she's had sex previously. Part of me wondered if the frolicing but not in the woods was actually a joke on her part.

I think it came up on the first ten pages.

Pol? I doubt it. They might have liked each other though.

I thought the Dalish Warden was the one person she was close to in the clan, based on what she says if the Dalish Warden is imported. I always thought Merrill wasn't really close to anyone except Marethari and the Dalish Warden (and if the Dalish protagonist died, that her death played a role in her decision to re-build the Eluvian). It seemed like everyone else in the clan jumped on a lame excuse to isolate her and dismiss her outright, and that Hawke could be the first person to really embrace her as a true friend and not shoot her down for being the "black sheep" of Marethari's clan.

I thought the Dalish had their "no joining, no sex" thing (or was it only that Cammen needed to be an adult for it?). So I assume she was a virgin.

Merrill is an adult. She has her blood tattoos. Cammen and Gayla were both children.

And while I'm at it, they were easier to romance than Isabela. Just sayin'.

Technically, that's true, but we can hear a Dalish woman heavily implying that she's going to have carnal contact with a male counterpart (who seemed oblivious to her innuendo when they discussed "training" as a matter of fact). I guess not everyone is as strict as Cammen was about the rules (which is why Gheyna could sleep with the Warden).

Mary Kirby(talking about the "virginal girl-next-door thing"): "Er... Jennifer was talking archetype, not describing the actual sexual history of any of the characters."
Weird question coming up.
Does that mean Merrill isn't a virgin?

Well, that was part of my warden's backstory. I don't know if they ever had sex, but there was romance. I decided this after Merrill gave my warden the eyes when she left with Duncan.

Hey, I don't want to talk about anything weird other than this. It was just a question that was bothering me.

Why does it even bother you?

She isn't real, so it shouldn't matter.

Next topic, please.

It would be sort of funny if both Merrill and Isabela had slept with the Warden prior to meeting Hawke.

It would indeed. The truth (in my game) is even funnier. It involves Hawke and Leliana in Lothering, the Warden and Merrill in their clan, and... subsequent cross-pollination.

Oh dear...

Luckily, I didn't have a Dalish Warden. Provided this is true, that is.

Well, I don't think anything not in-game is really "true," per se. But she totally gave me the eyes, godammit, and there's nothing to contradict it.

Considering even Merrill didn't expect her Keeper and the tribe to still be there by the time she went to talk with the demon again, years after, that'd be some miraculous planning.

We also have no idea how Merrill would have handled the demon, because Marethari acts before we can get any idea about how Merrill had planned to handle Audacity.

Well, we know Merrill isn't really against the concept of demons possessing people if that means Merrills gets what Merrills wants. Or at least, that she doesn't appear capable of defending herself from this kind of persuasion.

She's aware things may go in a manner which she can't handle, which is the very reason she asks Hawke to accompany her. If she's 100% sure she could handle it herself, there'd be no need for such request.

Although Hawke doesn't have to bring Merrill specifically, he does involve himself (and others) in very dangerous situations.

But discussion was over whether Merrill is old/experienced enough to be involved in such dangerous activities. Hawke is a separate person with separate set of qualities, and as such what he/she does with his/her own life is also separate matter.

Yet Merrill knows that Hawke has handled abominations, demons, dragons, darkspawn, and Qunari. She would trust that he could handle himself to deal with an abomination if it ever came to that.

And none of these things Hawke has handled is supposed to be on level of danger/power that's pride demon released into our world. She trusts Hawke, sure. And it's cute and no doubt makes Hawke feel all warm and tingly. But it's a pretty blind trust considering she doesn't really know if Hawke is capable of handling something this big.

No really though, I never played a Dalish Warden... I did try the City Elf and Dwarf Noble though. Still, I couldn't stay away from the Human Noble in the end...
