It's a good question. Sensible answer would be waiting wasn't part of the plan at all, and so the plan was all along what it actually was -- that is, helping Merrill to fix the mirror.LobselVith8 wrote...
And how is waiting for Merrill different than waiting for Marethari to make a deal, exactly?
We've just dealt with this. If it's about tricking the Keeper, why not trick her immediately when Merrill started to play with the mirror?Or tricking the Keeper Marethari was the plan all along, so the only person demonstrating stupidity was the Keeper.
Yes, it's a speculation based on her apparent character. That's a great deal of speculation you're putting forth about Merrill.
As you've pointed out yourself, through series of his/her reckless activities Hawke gets to witness multiple deals with demons gone wrong and puts end to them. And how is Hawke more experienced with demonology than Merrill?
That is because Merrill makes this assumption before Hawke kills this kind of abomination. Basing such assumption on Hawke being capable of handling lesser abominations is akin to presuming Hawke could kill Archdemon because he/she was able to kill a handful of other dragons. As, after all, the Archdemon is just a bigger dragon and Hawke has already shown he/she can kill such a creature.Since the Keeper became an abomination and Hawke could kill her, I'm not certain why you think Merrill should have assumed Hawke wouldn't be capable of handling another abomination when he's fought plenty over the years.

While I agree that Anders is a mass murderer and not worthy of my affection (romantic or otherwise), he's not selfish or petty. What he does has nothing to do with him, except that he's a mage. He doesn't personally benefit at all from it. His hope is that all mages will benefit, because it's going to start a war that will end the oppression of the Chantry.

When the demon in Fade offers her a deal with Feynriel's possession being the price she most certainly doesn't go "wait, that would mean someone other than me is going to die, take me instead."Sunnie22 wrote...
Don't forget that Merrill doesn't want to hurt anyone, and would rather die herself than see someone else die because of what she is doing or trying yo do. She would most definitly NOT kill another to power some blood magic ritual some demon would require, she would instead sacrifice herself.

I wouldn't be so sure really. Perhaps it would require Hawke's influence (and we know how influential Hawke can be in DA2... even making Anders fight alongisde the Templars...

That was the Fade, though, where she was heavily influenced by the Pride Demon. I don't think people are quite themselves in it.

Yes, but out of all people she is supposed to have training how to resist such influence, being groomed to become a Keeper and all. Instead she doesn't hesitate about the concept itself at all -- she questions whether demon can really do that, but not the nature of the offer. I think that's rather telling.jlb524 wrote...

is there a particular reason the demon would have wanted Merrill to the exclusion of everybody else? What would it care?

I personally thought her cutest moment was this banter with Bethany:
Merrill: If you could do anything - just anything at all - what would you do?
Bethany: That's easy. Be normal. No magic, just... normal.
Merrill: Really? You wouldn't fly across Thedas or eat a cake the size of Kirkwall? Keep a baby griffon for a pet?
Bethany: Well, now that you say it, the griffon might not be so bad.
Merrill: I'd name mine "Feathers."

It's a reference to that bit in the slaver's den in Fenris's act II quest. If you click on one of the blood donors, he says to Merrill: "the legacy of the magisters. this will be you some day"
It was inspiring. So we have Merrill performing blood magic with Danarius looking on approvingly. I sometimes wonder what things would be like if Merrill and Fenris were switched, or if Danarius trained Merrill (either because she wanted to learn from an expert, or because she surrendered herself in place of Fenris). They would make very interesting story ideas.

To each their own, but I admire Merrill's selfless reason for blood magic moreso.

Emile: Are you a mage because you just magicked my breath away.
Hawke: You don't have a lot of experience with women do you?
Emile: Can I practice with you then *Giggles* In private?

Danarius was so awfully polite. Unlike all the other fetch quests, Danarius actually sends you a letter after you return his waylaid property to him. He invites you to Minrathous and offers a tour of the Arcanist Hall if you ever take him up on it.
He rescues Fenris's sister and offers to make her a magister! Do you think elves have such social mobility in Kirkwall, Ferelden, or Orlais? Ever recall seeing an elf in a position of power there? No, I didn't think so.

I didn't remember the exact sentance structure.
So I tried to type it from memory.
But I bet Hawke was thinking "Merrill!...I mean it's true but still!...awww never mind she's too adorable to be mad at"
