All I'm asking is that people be open minded and not fall to prejudice and unjustified animus.

When the demon in Fade offers her a deal with Feynriel's possession being the price she most certainly doesn't go "wait, that would mean someone other than me is going to die, take me instead."Sunnie22 wrote...
Don't forget that Merrill doesn't want to hurt anyone, and would rather die herself than see someone else die because of what she is doing or trying yo do. She would most definitly NOT kill another to power some blood magic ritual some demon would require, she would instead sacrifice herself.
That was the Fade, though, where she was heavily influenced by the Pride Demon. I don't think people are quite themselves in it.
That's certainly an understatement. Once Aveline betrayed me to a desire demon I knew the Fade followed different rules beyond even what we thought they did in DA:O. I mean come on Aveline giving in to desire! The entire backbone of her character is that she so determined in her need to do good that she can push desires away almost indefinitely. After seeing that I could totally walk into Merrill's home and accept her apology with a sarcastic remark.
That being said this lengthy discussion over supporting or opposing Merrill's actions has really got me questioning the motivations of my Hawke's rivalmance. Way to go thread.

I have to admit, he was pretty charming. And hes real nice to you when you turn Fenris in. "The power of the Imperium will be at your disposal."Emperor Iaius I wrote...
Sleazy! Vile! Must you give in to stereotype and insinuation?
Danarius was so awfully polite. Unlike all the other fetch quests, Danarius actually sends you a letter after you return his waylaid property to him. He invites you to Minrathous and offers a tour of the Arcanist Hall if you ever take him up on it.
He rescues Fenris's sister and offers to make her a magister! Do you think elves have such social mobility in Kirkwall, Ferelden, or Orlais? Ever recall seeing an elf in a position of power there? No, I didn't think so.

Just found this line Found if priceless:
Emile: Are you a mage because you just magicked my breath away.
Hawke: You don't have a lot of experience with women do you?
Emile: Can I practice with you then *Giggles* In private?
Merrill: You're tongue is too raspy, you'd probably just drool all over the place.
Are there variations of what she says? I'd heard a different (and equally funny) version.
I didn't remember the exact sentance structure.
So I tried to type it from memory.
But I bet Hawke was thinking "Merrill!...I mean it's true but still!...awww never mind she's too adorable to be mad at"
What I heard was, I do believe:
Merrill: "No, your tongue isn't nearly rough enough."
Oh, and grats on 10,000th MAT post

But I can understand it for Aveline. She has no experience in the fade. Merrill is a mage, she is supposed to know about all this stuff and resist it.Blackout62 wrote...

I think she knows exactly what she was doing and performed a cold-blooded cost-benefit analysis: she tells Hawke that her people are more important.

Pretty much. Isabela, Varric and Kenley (Hawke) are playing strip poker. Albeit with some limits, because Kenley couldn't be convinced to play otherwise. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png[/smilie]

In the one playthrough that I didn't romance Merrill I heard something about Emile's tongue being too raspy/not raspy enough (I forget which) and that he'd drool all over the place. I don't know if it changes if you romance her.DoNotIngest wrote...

Right! Woot! And Merrill just sitting there staring. Love it
All I know about the person who said the version I wrote was that they were a female Hawke romancing Merrill. Made me snort because it seems like she's comparing his tongue to her own, and saying something embarassing by mistake.

It seems she has to be rivalmanced for that line. I had her in a friendship romance, and she used the drooling one.Grand Admiral Cheesecake wrote...

You mean the one with everybody but Hawke (BOOO!) playing strip poker, with Merrill completely naked with a card shark smirk on her face? There's a link on Page 1

Nope, she's not. Only Varric, Isabela and Kenley are playing. The others are just chatting and wisely keeping themselves out of Isabela's card games.Emperor Iaius I wrote...
As long as poor Merrill's not participating. That would just be wrong.
Kenley's #1 requirement before agreeing to play was nothing below the waist is allowed, so don't think this comic's going there. Aimo's already done that.
