*giggles* Varric shaking his head 'No' as Merrill steps out wearing Hurlock Armor.
Yea... I edited my response...
Merrill in hurlock armor, hmm, did she think it would be sexy? Or was she just trying to match outfits with that spiky champion armor (

When does Isabela seem surprised? As I remember, it went like this:
Isabela: So, did you get naked?
Merrill: Isabela!
Isabela: That good, huh?
I think Maria's right. Isabela helped Merrill pick it out, hoping that Hawke wouid see it. When she finds out that nakedness did happen, she's so proud of her Kitten

It looks like a bathing suit from the early twentieth century, like something a woman might be wearing on the February illustration of a calendar kept by someone fighting in World War I.
Not really. The black and white bit is some sort of outer shell, but the actual lingerie was decidedly modern. Remember, it's what the prostitutes wore.
It's singularly inappropriate for Merrill, even if it was for a special occasion (which she couldn't have known would have happened, given how flustered she was). KOTOR had unique outfits for each character, both under and over. Having her dress like the elven prositutes is just wrong.

Great now I'm imagining Merrill wearing that outfit in an old-timey pinup kept in the pocket of a Dalish hunter to stave off loneliness as he travels away from his home to fight the Blight.
Fanartists I approve and encourage you to draw said pinup but would be horrified to see you go any further than that.

I don't mind the chainmail neck at all! I just love the scarf SO MUCH. And it'd be recolored to match her sash, and it'd be SO CUTE.
Make it so!

Then I can smash the shop where they sold that ridiculous ugly thing.
Ever since I saw this greyhaired elf in the Blooming Rose I thought of it nothing more than granny lingerie...
It's ugly, and I don't want it.

What's modern about wearing a one-piece bathing suit as lingerie? Is that what the kids are getting up to these days? Showing a little skin never hurt anyone. =P
Psh. I think it's classy

What truly intrigues me about Merrill's home is why she has so much cheese. There are three whole wheels on her counter and only one thing of mutton. That's an unhealthy ratio of dairy to meat. Did Mary feel the need to have Merrill be the requisite cheese obsessed companion? Is Merrill the fiend that took the cheese that's advertised as lost on the Chanter's board?
I can answer that! The nomadic peoples of Mongolia survive most of the year on what they call the 'white diet.' Tons of dairy products, some meat, and few grains, or vegetables. In fact, vegetables are typically considered animal stock. Flour is imported from China as they don't grow their own grains.
Given that Merrill is dalish, it's very possible that she considers cheese, milk, and curds to be a staple food. She's probably hording non-perishable items for an expected period of scarcity.

It could also be because Varric often visits and it's important to keep plenty on hand.

No. I mean that it's got some sort of absurd red undergarment underneath it. It's not a one-piece bathing suit at all.

Be that as it may (and be that I obviously did not look at it quite closely enough), it's doing a pretty good impression of one.

Well I can't imagine her being able to afford the best possible sexy undergarments without having any kind of regular work and all, especially considering at one point Varric has to have food brought to her doorstep since she's workin' on the damn Mirror so much. So I figured lingerie designed for the svelte Elven woman, was pretty spot on to something she'd wear. Just because a cathouse worker wears it doesn't mean everyone who wears it is some kind of ****.
Still, since I saw that elven woman in the Blooming Rose, I can't help myself to think of it more than granny's lingerie.
I tried, dear Maker, I tried! But it isn't working!
I'm gonna try harder next time... I promise!
Anyway, next topic please.

As someone currently in a surprisingly interesting food in world history class I should have come to that conclusion. You think the Dalish drink the blood of their still living Halla for energy like ancient Mongols did with their horses? For quick nutrience the Mongols would literally cut a small wound into their horses and drink the blood for energy. It wasn't enough to hinder the horse and the rider got a surprising amount of energy from it. I imagine the Dalish don't do that with the animals they consider sacred but desperate times.
Actually if your researching nomadic food habits might I suggest Near a Thousand Tables by Felipe Fernández-Armesto. It has thorough examples of early human food, hunting gathering, pastoralism, etc.

Merrill: "Is that what I should be wearing underneath my armour, too?"
