I totally see this happening. And especially when I read it in my head with Isabella's and Merrill's voice.

The weirdest thing about Merrill's alienage house to me is that little room around the side. There's a room that's obviously a living room and study and another room that's obviously a bedroom. There should be a bathroom and a kitchen somewhere too, but neither are there. There's a little room that looks like some sort of odd, old-fashioned toilet combined with a pantry. I really don't want to think that the Dalish combine those two rooms...

Why didn't Merrill move her stuff into Hawke's manor? If he (or she) accepted her blood magic and supported her research into the Eluvian, why didn't she bring these things when he asked her to move in? It's not like there wouldn't be enough room.

Btw, Emperor Iaius, what did you mean about giving your Hawke "Tevinter features"?

The room next to the bedroom has a hole in the floor doesn't it? Otherwise, I don't think that they have that good plumbing, so a chamberpot and walking to the water seems likely.

I do find Merrill liking the alienage to be a bit badly worked out and underwhelmingly written. You could suppose that she likes being around other elves, but then she's only there because she moved away from her whole clan. She also apparently rarely leaves the house. It seems to boil down to her preferring to be alone, but that seems odd since she could have simply left the Dalish and gone anywhere else in the world rather than to a major, bustling city. Her preferring to be alone also seems a bit strange if you're in a relationship with her since it makes it feel like she frequently wants to be away from Hawke no matter what you do.

Think of it like this, if DA2 was more like Origins? Isabela would be like Morrigan, willing to kiss in front of all the companions. Merrill would be like Leliana. Rare and far between and if in public more likely a cheek. But behind closed doors? She sure has a raspy tongue.
