I liked New Zevran as much as I ever did Old Zevran. I don't think the redesign was particularly unkind to him. He wasn't OMZHOTified like Merrill was, though.

I hired her as my servant. I'll probably do the same on my current playthrough, even though it'll cost me some Fenris friendship points.
