I picked the first one. Then he points out how hawke ought to remember that HE was once a slave, so I tell him to shut up again. Then he spits. I would assume I got massive rivalry points, but I had him maxed out well before then.
Man, I dislike Fenris almost enough to pull that one on him.

I hate him because he's an ****, to Merrill, to Anders (even though Anders is, himself, an ****), to Bethany... he's a giant hypocrite. I actually do like the character as a character, but he's a really awful person.

I agree with him only insofar as to say that Isabela could use a leash every now and again.

Only collaterally. I'm not interested in slavery as a concept as I am as an appurtenant characteristic of the Imperium. If it was the Chantry that practiced slavery, for instance, then I'd be its strongest opponent.

Among other reasons. That's certainly the strongest source of my hatred for him, though his irrational dislike of mages and his betrayal of Danarius are also motivating factors.

This thread is where I've been exposed to Fenris hate the most. I like Fenris. I like Merrill. I like all the characters (well, Anders dissapointed me--plus I killed him. Still like him though). I wish they would all just get along and pick daisies while singing koombaya. But it'll never happen. That makes me sad. Ah well.
Varric seems to be the only companion that gets along with everyone. Maybe Isabela too, once she and Aveline get around to being Vitriolic Best Buds in Act 3.

I don't think Merrill would be too thrilled about a return to the glory days of the Imperium.
It's interesting that she talks about both Dalish and human religious as being homogenous. Surely, Arlathan had a multitude of religious if it spanned the length of Thedas. She also seems to think that there's only a single human religion despite being from Ferelden where there are still humans who worship other gods. You'd think she'd be at least passingly familiar with the human explanation for the Blight (or do the Dalish have their own explanation?) and the Tevinter gods.
As do I. In marked contrast with my usual preference for dark and moody stories. I want my companions to love one another and love me.Captain Uccisore wrote...

I ran with Aveline, Isabela, and Merrill my first game and got that. In my second game it was Isabela, Varric, and Merrill.
Sebastion is also a cool dude.
I had no problem with the Jack and Miranda relationship though.

Leaving him to die at the hands of the qunari.

That's another point. I rarely make it because people seem to justify it on the basis that the magisters kept slaves.

Heh. It's interesting though. Merrill doesn't seem to have the hatred of the Imperium that the other elves have, despite the fact that she's wedded to Elvhenan. She seems genuinely curious about them, to the point that she rejects Fenris's arguments about how awful the magisters are and disapproves if you agree with him. She's upset with the destruction of the evil tomes, even though Taronhe says that she wrote them to realize her goal of restoring the glory days of the ancient Imperium. And in act three, she even jokes about it: she comments how Andraste looks sad, and says it's probably because of mages or Tevinter in a tone that implies "typical."
Hm. As to the second: where are you getting the idea that she only thinks that there's a single human religion?
And no, I can't say that I recall any Dalish explanation for the Blight. It sounds like something that we'd have been told though. . . I wonder if Marethari talks about it in the Dalish elf origin? I remember a conversation with her about what the darkspawn are.

Ah, good. I'm not the only one then.
Varric, Isabela, and Merrill are the usual members of my party as well. Which is funny, because my Hawke is a brooding ***hole and it'd be more expected for him to hang with Fenris and Anders where they can all brood together.
Sebastian was cool, I liked having him in the party, and his accent was very attractive. But he was a little bit dull. I usually role rivalry with him to keep things interesting.
I find Jack and Miranda's hostility toward another absolutely hilarious. It entertains me greatly. I think by the end of ME2 they're more tolerant and respectful of one another, but I don't know if they'll become friends. Lord knows I want them too.

I absolutely agree. The companions' interactions with one another were much improved over Origins. I only wish I had an opportunity to get involved in their conflicts. I tend to enjoy mediation as opposed to passive observation, so I'd love an opportunity to tell Fenris that he's being a douche*. Merrill doesn't seem to really attack anyone else, though.

I agree, he's being such a bastard during the A New Path quest that I think such fisticuffs would be justifiable. Other times, I agree with the earlier point about trying to mediate the dispute. And for the record, I think Fenris' disagreements with Merrill are a whole lot more understandable than Anders'. He's still being unreasonable, but you can see where he's coming from.Zjarcal wrote...

Going after Merrill is the safety really. Argue with Aveline and you are more likely to get retaliation. Merrill gets attacked and she tends to just take it with maybe a light retort in an attempt to lighten the mood. Why I'd generally have Rivaini or Varric along as her supporters. I always take Varric & Izzy with us for A New Path. I figure we're in for a rough ride. Better to not totally traumatize the girl. She's gonna be hating herself enough as it is.
