That's a quick taste of Vaughn

In the end I just find the way they portray Merrill as a rival being more than just;

"Yay you agree"

or

"Why is everything so wrong?" "It's not your fault Merrill."

It's scripted so we have to leave it at that. Then again so was Origins our character just said a small sentence. We don't necessarily know how it would have came across other than dry text from a statue.

Yeah, but say you agree with her, and gave her the Knife. And then in Act 3 you learned somethings, and the Keeper was killed. Say you now think what Merrill is doing is wrong. You're screwed. You can't change your view. Hawke agrees with her views on who was to blame.

If the Keeper being killed convinces you that what Merrill is doing is wrong, then... uh... I don't have anything nice to say about a character whose mind is changes such :pinched:

In 3 years? Come on, and people should have the choice to change. And friendship means you agree with her path no matter what. You can't change your view.

No, I mean if anything, that should convince you that Merrill's right. All that event proves is that Marethari's egotistical.

I don't tend to let past roles color my opinion of a new character if they share a same voice actor. Though I can recognize Vaughn in Bolton's voice, I just don't hear it in male Hawke. He's just male Hawke to me. And considering the pool of VAs Bioware frequently revisits, I kind of have to learn to seperate certain voices from certain roles, otherwise characters would bleed together a lot across games.

Yuri Lowenthals. Yuri Lowenthals everywhere.

Well except DAII, was he just Pol in this? Also Merrill: Still adorable. Still questioning whether it was worth replaying my canon Hawke to rivalmance Merrill. Do I have it in me to replay that character a third time?

Also my favorite quote from rivalmance:
Hawke: I don't know I'm getting pretty good at this hero thing
Merrill: Who says I need a hero.

If any girl said that to me no matter the context I'd swoon,

People may disagree with you. Saying they can't is wrong.

Well, saying they can't is just saying they can't. But I never said no one could disagree. But the harshest words I could say to Merrill after that are "And that's why you don't let demons possess you. Which you totally weren't planning to do anyway" :P

There are Yuri Lowenthals' all over my Assassin's Creed too.

The dude gets around.

Nah, he's just a really connected American voice actor who's in just about everything that needs voice acting.

For the friendship romance, Merrill is completely in love with Hawke, and Hawke completely supports Merrill. There isn't any drama...

I'm not big on drama in relationships.

BioWare are

I can't think of one same-sex relationship I've played with drama:
Silk Fox
Leliana
Liara
Merrill (friendmance)
Isabela

Maybe Isabela has 'relationship drama?' I don't know. She seemed level-headed even if she was a bit conflicted on whether she wanted a relationship or no.

But she was no Morrigan. And she certainly was less drama filled than Anders or Fenris.

And just about anyone he plays is a young man with firmly held beliefs but ultimately cowardly. Just within Bioware games theres: Finn from Wirch Hunt and Daniel from ME2. Beyond that there's the titular Prince of Persia and Yosuke from Persona 4.

Oh wait he played Sandal. That's surprisingly outside his usual typecast.

S/S ROMANCES ARE THE WRONG ROMANCES OMZ.

Maybe it's just Gaider-mances? BioWare characters just seem so angsty to me. Aerie and Jaheira and Anomen... ugh. I never romances Viconia, because I was sixteen and NOT INTO EVIL AT ALL?!?!

[EDIT] And yes. BGII was the last game in which I did any romances at all until Origins.

I'm a straight female gamer and I tend to find the female LIs more interesting than the male ones. Plus, I love facial hair and playing with beard options in the CC, so it's one of the reasons I usually end up playing a male character. The main exception's KOTOR2 (didn't like it much as a male) and Mass Effect (male's still my main canon, but I've played a female Shepard almost as much). Oh, and Fable II/III. I liked both Sparrows equally and I preferred the Princess to the Prince.

As for Merrill = Tali... I can see correlations, but they just feel executed differently to me. I like Merrill more overall and find her backstory more interesting. Granted, part of that might be because some Tali fans come off as very obsessive to me. And this is from a Tali fan.

You're my twin. You have to be. Or a clone. It's like you copied my brain exactly.

When is this? The pre-final battle chats?  I admit, I'm waiting to finish Act 3 until the patch is released. So I haven't finished my rivalmance playthrough (my first playthrough was an Isabela-mance, but that's been retconned).

It's actually from the estate scene if you have a Sarcastic personality. Video is crappy/jumpy because the only program I've been able to get to record DA2 video is Fraps, and I can only record 30 seconds at a time. And yes... I actually did just have that video lying around. :P

Also, I have finished drawing the backgrounds. I'm finally up to shading. I might actually finished before I go to bed, or early in the morning. Whoo!

I know in Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood he plays Vieri d'Pazzi amongst other additional voices.

Haha, that was surreal. I played default male Hawke, so it was like seeing my own character but with a beach tan and some intense contact lenses.

I never use defaults, but I loved default Hawke's hair and beard, so I couldn't resist using them for my alternate warrior Hawke. Yay mods!

Side note: Hmmm...Hawke can have sex with like 6 elves in this game (Blooming Rose :P ) Elves can't resist the voice!

Their is not a single female human in that place....

Kirkwallers must like their elves.

You heard her, she is married now, so its "Lady" Elegant.

Pages are all colored. The only thing I have left to do is add the speech bubbles/dialogue. However, I'm literally nodding off at my desk, so it's time to go to bed. I'll finish the last bit of the comics in the morning.

But her face reminds me a bit of Lady Gaga for some reason... I think it's the moth/cheeks/chin.

Anyone else not that fussy about the updated FanFic? It was pretty good for the first three chapters, but there are some parts that are gnawing at me, now. I ignored how they called her a "frightened young girl" at the end of Chapter 3, but now they're calling her a "little girl"... I hope they realize she's a secluded 20-something year old blood mage, the way they go about it you'd think she was ten. And all the drinking isn't very Merrill-like. The shots bit was fine, but now, it's every other night. And they sure seem to like the idea of her idolizing male Hawke. While she does say she wishes she was more like Hawke, they're not her diety. Plus, I think the grammar's getting worse.

Anybody else?

So comment on the story in the review section of Fanfiction.net. Tell the writer your concerns and maybe it'll be addressed in future updates. That's the beauty of fan fiction.
