Oh. Well, I missed out by giving him to the demon!

You gave the kid to the sloth demon? You're even more sinister then I thought.

Well if you do get him to overcome the demons, you will get a letter. He'll tell you how wild Tevinter is, with mages performing magic in the streets, and having duels with each other.

Well, evidently Merrill thought I made the right choice because she tried to make a deal with the other demon in there. :P

Hah. Can you imagine doing Night Terrors after romancing Merrill? It didn't seem like nearly as big a deal when I did it, before an established relationship.

Edit: Wait, what does she do...? (@ Ishmael)

This is bad, but, I'll say it anyways.... Wonder if Act 3 was the last part they worked on?

I wonder that. I really liked the other acts, but the last one felt like it had potential to be a lot better.

Not to mention there was a ton of build up to act III. We had been getting glimpses of this fight between the mages and Templars the whole game. When the time finally came for that part of the story it pretty much fell flat with only a series of like 3 quests then an unexpected early end. I didn't even have all the champion armor when the end game quest started.

True Act 1 is long as hell. Act 2 flows better and keeps you busy with the Companions and the Qunari. Then Act 3 hits. Steam rolls. If a player wasn't prepared for and though and knocked Best Served Cold and then picked Last Straw fast? Act 3 is pretty rushed.

Though ME2 had it like that to. You're given the option to go get the IFF. If you get it just as you're able to? Your crew is taken and then you will only have a handful of loyal companions. So from that regard. DA2 has that in common. Yet another simularity.

You know what? I'm ashamed of you right now. You'd think the internet of ALL PLACES would be a frakking hotbed of people who have seen WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU **** A STRANGER IN THE ASS.

Feynriel really tied the room together.

I got all the sexual euphemisms.

And I assume ishmeal is making a The Big Lebowski reference even though I've never seen the movie because it has the name 'Walter' and swearing.

Heh, I actually tried doing Night Terrors after romancing Merrill turns out she will still betray you for the Pride Demon, the wiki does say no matter your companions WILL betray regardless of having 100% Friendship/Rivalry, I find it funny really, how she say she cant put Hawke ahead of her clan....really? Afterall I´ve done for her? Wow, that gratitude.

So yeah I was expecting that maybe a romance companion would make a difference in that quest guess only Justice gets away with it... sort of.

Justice just gets in a hissy fit over the Sloth demon, and attacks you. Same thing, really, except without demon mind-influence.

Well, at the very least, Merrill has the least ridiculous reasoning for betraying Hawke. Saving her race, restoring it's culture? Fine. Better than betrayal for a new boat and a skanky bedmate or status among dwarves.

The only difference in anything in regards to your romance companion is if your sibling died. If you do not bring your LI with you and contront Grace & Thrask on the Wounded Coast? The Love Interest is 2nd to be taken by them after Siblings. That is about it in regards to Love Interest changes. Other than their outfits of course.

Don't forget Fenris being promised power to be on equal with the Magisters.

Never brought the little bastard along to find out, but I thought it'd be something idiotic. I sympathize with the writers on Varric, even if they did have a lame reason; What more could he want?

"I can forgive Varric. Hes never been in the Fade, and had no idea what it was like."

None of them had been in the Fade, and Hawke hadn't either. You might say Dwarves are the least magically attuned, but they're also the most magically resistant. Which is why there shouldn't have been any more weight than usual behind a demon telling Varric, "Hey, you know your culture that you've never experienced and avoid like the plague? I'll give you PRESTIGE in that culture!"

At least Merrill is doing something quite selfless; Well, she's looking out for the interests of her people, if not for the interests of anybody else whatsoever. I like that not once in the whole game does it seem to cross her mind about being remembered or recognized; She's just the Dalish Pariah, usually unknown and always reviled, and she gives, and gives, and gives; All of her time, thought, no social life, and no love, if it weren't for Hawke.

Well, it isn't but it is. It's suppost to show you everyone's weakness, and how everyone can be easily convinced by the power of a demon. Despite being the type that may resist such things.

1. Those weaknesses only appear in the Fade. Merrill constantly wants to restore the Dalish but Fenris never talks about wanting power to equal the Magisters and Varric never show interest in gaining prestige from dwarven society.

2. Hawke, the main character, does not show any weakness. It's one of those sections where I can't help but wish this were a book, or movie, or even a non-RPG.

Fenris would love to go back home and start kicking ass. That'd be his dream come true. That's why he'd want power. While Varric always keeps tabs on what's going down in dwarven society, and his family were once nobles before being kicked out.

Hawke is immune because he's the player character. They can't have the player character lose control over things they can't script you to want. And you're death would mean game over without any control over it. Which would make the a quest a big "Do not do."

I can see if there were a fourth demon or something, that your character would be swayed and you would have to fight it and the demon; After killing yourself (Hah!), a friend could help you back up or something. Certainly it'd be preferable if nobody in your party died in the Fade, as this is supposed to really screw you up in the real world.

Edit: As in, the other three fighting Hawke + Demon.

I agree with this.  This is why I prefer the rival path.  I don't relate to the people who think she is an ideal flawless person.  The fact that she is a girl with a good heart but genuine flaws is what I find so appealing about her as a character.

Of course she's a good person with genuine flaws. But thinking that the mirror/blood magic are not flaws is not the same as thinking she's an ideal flawless person.

I prefer the friendship paths because I (and most of my characters) think she's right.

I tend to see that a lot - and I don't understand it. Merrill demonstrates no inability to handle blood magic during the seven years she accompanies Hawke, and she's able to extrapolate information from the shard and all the lore she's gathered to recreate a two thousand year old piece of ancient elven technology. Is Hawke really in a position to say she doesn't know what she's doing when Hawke literally has no idea what she's doing? I trusted Merrill. And like you, I thought she was right.

I'm sure the Imperium has access to functional Eluvians that would peak Merrill's interest, as well as access to arcane knowledge over the course of thousands of years of history. Sparing Feynriel could be the key to being Magister Hawke. Imagine having a powerful somniari mage like Feynriel at your side and claiming glory as the Champion who defeated the Arishok and the direct descent of Magister Parlathan.
