1. Those weaknesses only appear in the Fade. Merrill constantly wants to restore the Dalish but Fenris never talks about wanting power to equal the Magisters and Varric never show interest in gaining prestige from dwarven society.
2. Hawke, the main character, does not show any weakness. It's one of those sections where I can't help but wish this were a book, or movie, or even a non-RPG.
Varric referenced it when I gave him the ring of sorts. Something about the Guards of Orzimmar turning their noses up at his Letters. He referenced Harrowmont in it when I imported him as king. I can't remember what he said about bhelen.

I'm just askin', I haven't read up on how Marriage works in Thedas. From all the novels and comics and what not, it just seems there is alot of baby-making and very little vows. Not that I'm demanding everyone get married just asking how that would work out. *sniffle*
I imagine my Hawkes taking Merrill back to the Brecillian after leaving the Free Marches to ... uhh... "commune with nature".

I've got a page of unlined white paper done, and a third of the down the back written as well. I should be done shortly, and you can see whether or not I have the potential to write more. I have to admit, even at 2AM with poor sleep last night, this is quite enjoyable.
Edit: Yes, commune with nature. What else would a lustful man and his beautiful Dalish lover do in a warm, secluded forest?

Varric does say that everyone left Hawke... except Merrill. He (or she) never has a problem with Merrill believing in the Creators throughout the seven years they've known each other. My Hawke wouldn't.

Oooh, spicey. Here's what I've done! After reading through it, I'm feeling rather good about it. It seems I'm going to be writing more of a novel than FanFiction, but I've always preferred the longer stories... Let me know what you think.
"No, Keeper, I'm leaving, and I'm taking the Eluvian with me!" A pair of hunters standing nearby muttered their satisfaction at that remark. Merrill turned and started to walk away. "Ma nuvenin, da'len. But when you go, remember you will be missed." Merrill didn't acknowledge Keeper Marethari's unexpected concession to their argument, focusing instead on her final words as she crossed camp and started up Sundermount. '"You will be missed"', she thought. 'Oh, Keeper, you know how much the Clan will miss me. At least I can study the shard in peace up here.' She pulled out the fragment of the Eluvian, and began anew the testing and probing which she'd been trying for days. It was only a couple of hours before she heard somebody approaching from the cleared trail behind her, the clump of heavy boots and sandals. Stashing away the shard and silencing it's distinctive ringing, she turned to meet the newcomers.
"Oh, you must be the ones the Keeper told us about! Aneth ara!" She chirped, taking in the three humans and the lone dwarf standing before her. 'I'm really expanding my horizons today!' she thought. 'And look, he even has a beard like Duncan's! Except it's a lot smaller, it rather looks more like a mouse than a squirrel. Or maybe a shrew?...'
Realising that she had been staring at the man's chin for several moments, now, she stuttered "Oh, uhm... Well, what's your beard? I mean, name! Oh, it's not rude to ask a human their name, is it? I've only seen one human before, and I never really got to talk to him... My name's Merrill. Although you probably knew that, you must have spoken with the Keeper, and... I'll stop talking now." She muttered, blushing and glancing towards the ground. 'I'm sure making a mess of things, aren't I?' She thought anxiously.
"Relax, Merrill.", laughed the bearded man. "My name's Hawke. Garrett Hawke, to be precise. This is my sister Bethany, my fellow Ferelden Aveline, and my trusty dwarf, Varric."
"Don't you dare forget Bianca!" Varric added, stroking the stock of his ingenious crossbow affectionately. 'Wait, does he mean his weapon? Or am I missing somebody?' After darting a few glances behind the group, and seeing Varric's grin widening while his eyebrows climbed ever higher, she cleared her throat, her cheeks warming again.
"So, the, erm... Well, Keeper Marethari told us you would come with a token of Asha'belannar?" She directed the question at Hawke, as he seemed to be at the forefront of the group, 'and, well, he answered my babbling quite nicely,' she thought hopefully.
"Ah, yes, the Witch!" Said Hawke, pulling out an ornate, though otherwise unremarkable amulet. "Well, she fried some Darkspawn for us, and helped us outrun the Blight. Deliver an amulet to a few elves? Sounded reasonable." He paused, and glanced up, noticing how her subdued facial tattoos curled around, then beneath her large, green eyes, the light which played them creating the illusion of making them darker. Varric prodded him with his boot.
"So... What do we do with it? Keeper Marethari mentioned something about a "Dalish ritual?" What's that about?"
"Well, it's a funeral, of sorts..." Merrill started vaguely. It was a bit complicated for one who hadn't been raised their whole life to be the Lorekeeper of the Clan. "You'll see what I mean when we get there.", she finished. She motioned for them to follow her, and they began their ascent, dappled by the light streaming through the trees that still grew at this low elevation. She paused, and turned back. "Just be careful as we near the summit. There are very old things on this mountain, better left undisturbed."
Aaaaand?
