Still haven't heard a voice like that.

...or have I?

Honestly wouldn't know. I resent voices.

I can't remember any DAO-Dude with that name.

Arl Bryland of South Reach. The guy that will always side with you in the Landsmeet. His daughter is Habren.

You mean Habren, the spoiled brat you can find at Denerim's market? I always pickpocket her... ^_^

Anyway, I wish that South Reach was marked on the map of Ferelden. It's always good to know the locations of these cities in case you want to make a fanfic.

...You serious?
He doesn't sound like Nicholas at all.

Are *you* serious? Of course he does not. A good actor has always a bigger voice range.
If you don't believe me, take a look at this interview(it's somehwere near the bottom).

Did you also knew that the Mark Meer(Commander Shepard) voiced the Vorcha and the...sassy elf Jethann in the Rose Brothel?[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/joyful.png[/smilie]

No... Not the sassy elf...! Not him!! D:

Now you've done it.

And about that interview....
It mentioned Daniuh... No, Danel... Gah, Daniel Crei... Argh!
Urgh, I mean that dude who plays the new "Bond"!

The interview must die now. It's top priority number one.

He better not! Otherwise I'll bottle him.

Well, he's not. I think your question is answered.[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/tongue.png[/smilie]

I agree with this.  This is why I prefer the rival path.  I don't relate to the people who think she is an ideal flawless person.  The fact that she is a girl with a good heart but genuine flaws is what I find so appealing about her as a character.

Of course she's a good person with genuine flaws. But thinking that the mirror/blood magic are not flaws is not the same as thinking she's an ideal flawless person.

I prefer the friendship paths because I (and most of my characters) think she's right.

My point here was not "blood magic is bad, m'kay?"  I am largely indifferent to the issue of blood magic.  My point was that what I love about Merrill is the ambiguity she inspires in me.  I have felt a certain anxiety with other Bioware LI's; it is an anxiety that can best be summed up in the question "did I choose the right dialogue option?"  Merrill took it to the next level for me.  Instead of asking that, I was asking "is what she is trying to do a bad idea?" "is not giving her the knife the wrong thing to do?" and "is she gonna choose her demon over me like Anders says?"

If I agreed with Merrill full stop the only flaws I could really point out would be awkwardness and getting lost, which are not really flaws.  Or more precisely, they are flaws that only serve to make her even more endearing.  This would basically make her another Tali in my mind, a character with a lot of superficial similarities to Merrill but who I ultimately find boring and uninteresting.

The paradox is that if I liked her in this way then I would in fact enjoy her character less!  I play Bioware games for the ambivalence and the creeping doubt.  They really pushed this even more with the companions in DA2, which is probably the main reason I liked this one better than Origins.

Whoa, who has ever said that she is an ideal flawless person?

My friendmance with her was such that I was not going to impose my views on her. If she really felt that the mirror was something important to her, I would support her and if she got into a pickle, I'd be the first to jump into the Fade and kick pride demon rump for her. I <3 her that much... :-P I think she would finally learn the error of her ways when Hawke saved her bacon.

I don't see it.  If you think it's a good thing for Merrill to keep working on restoring the mirror no matter what - consorting with demons and pushing it to extremes etc. etc. in order to do it - then friendship makes sense for you.  I disagree with your opinion but I respect the consistency of your thinking.

If, however, you think there is an "error" in "her ways" that she needs to "learn," then friendship seems like a cop out to me.  It seems like you want to change her thinking without ever arguing or even disagreeing with her.  I don't know if she needs to give up blood magic, but I'd like it if she'd stop feeling like she needs to potentially sacrifice herself for a group of ingrates that want to kill her.

Translation:

Merrill: Don't worry about this magic barrier, Hawke! I'll deal with it with Blood Magic and we will be able to pass through.

Merrill: We're under attack! I'll enhance my spells with Blood Magic and this will end quickly!

Merrill: Yo're not sure if this Templar is possesed by a demon or not? no problem, I'll find out with this Blood Magic ritual.

Merrill: It seems there is a hidden door on that wall. Do you want me to try to find out if there are any magic traps by using Blood... Ma... ugh...?

Hawke: Aaaaandeeeers.... Again.

Hawke: Merrill, seriously. Obviating the fact that pacting with demons is a bad thing, you can become an abomination doing that, all your clan repudiates you, you have lost the title of "First of the Keeper", if Templars got you they will kill you as a Maleficar or transforms you into a Tranquil, etc... Are you sure that all that stuff of Blood Magic is right?

Hawke: If you have to cut your wrist every time you use it. Then it can not be good for your health...

Heh heh, cute. It would make a bit more sense to cut your palm, or a similar, less potentially lethal area.

Had some free time and felt like doing more fan art. Didn't want to get into another big long one yet, so I did a quick-ish rough painting. It's also part of a color challenge meme on deviantART where you paint a few pictures using only certain colors. This is my first of them. Kenley and Merrill post-All That Remains:

Posted Image

The next few fan art ideas I have are more humorous. Might start on them soon before the weekend's over. :P

Better a cueball than hair that looks like a "mauled fox collapsed on [his] head and died" ;)

Yup. He shaves his hair down in Act 2 after he starts balding and Merrill makes the suggestion. He's my second main Hawke after my rogue (who friendmances Isabela), so any Merrill-related art I do that has anything remotely romantic about it will involve him. I might have fan art with Merrill and my rogue, but they have a more brother-sister type relationship, and I tend to lean towards the romantic or the silly in fan art.

Well, Cueball & Daisy seem to fit in fine in that case. It's much appreciated that you've become the main source of (great) fanart for this thread Posted Image

Heh, that they do. I like my grumpy mage and Merrill. Glad some other people do too. I also approve of "Cueball" as an official nickname for Kenley.

And I dunno about the latter. There's been some other really nice stuff on here, even if most of it's just repost from deviantART. There needs to be more Merrill stuff, though. Most of what I find on DA searches are memes, and half of them put her under "most hated character" Boo! >:C

Yeah, there are some other good ones. Just saying you're by far the most generous contributor, and it's quality material, too.

I find it odd that the second most popular character (behind Varric) and the most popular romance gets so much badmouthing, too. Probably the same bunch who say the redesigned elves look like smurfs (?!).

I'd be happy to contribute some fanart, if it was any good. After a sleepless night a couple of days ago I tried drawing her chin, cheek, ear and one eye from memory, and while it wasn't terrible, it needs a lot of work. Seems my fanfic sample wasn't very exciting either, so I guess I'll just sit here and gorge myself on Merrill productions Posted Image

I wish there were more fan art contributions. I like drawing them when the mood hits me, but it's not the same when I draw it. I like seeing what other people come up with.

Fanfiction I rarely, rarely write. I did a m!Amell/Leliana series last year. It was my first fanfic in about a decade. I tend to prefer drawing to writing.

Speaking of drawing, I'm about to start another one. My wrist is going to hate me. :P This one's more Isabela-focused though, but it will have Merrill in the scene, so I'll probably post it here after I put it in the Isabela thread.

It's always nice to see from somebody else's perspective. And it's even better when you see something done by a stranger, but that you could have almost pulled from your own head.

I'm happy to see any DA2 character strips, provided they're either funny, endearing or Merrill-related ;)

Edit: To Huffin; Yes, I kind of assumed it was dismissed. A couple of people said they liked it, but nobody mentioned anything after that, whereas there had been a stir about the lack of Merrill work before. I figured it was probably just not hitting them well. I suppose I'll have to do another for those who enjoyed it; Tomorrow is wide open, I think I'll listen to some music and do some more writing Posted Image Hell, as long as somebody wants to read it, I guess I should be writing it, shouldn't I?

I actually quite liked it, but I've never been fond of retellings from different points of view. Even by professional writers (are you one, by the way? Your writing style is really quite good, I'm guessing that's not the first thing you've written :P). It's just my personal preference, but I can't get interested in that kind of thing because I already know how the events are going to play out. I'd love to see you write about stuff that happened during the 3-year timeskips, though.

Just one man's opinion.

Thanks. Actually, last fiction I wrote was when I was 12; So I haven't really written before. I read a lot, though; Obviously, that helps me with different viewpoints and writing styles, and how best to develop my own.

I can certainly see what you mean about things that have already happened. I was definitely planning on including (adding) a lot of stuff that wasn't in the game, and focusing more on the parts concerned with Merrill and the group, rather than on the actual storyline. Of course, it will have to include the main plot, though I may do some minor tweaking, and it will be on the backburner; this is a Merrill & Hawke story, not a resummarisation of DA2 Posted Image Definitely will do something with the unexplained time gaps. After all, DA2 is just a story told by Varric; The vast majority of the party's time is left wide open to the imagination, which is great, for writing.
