Oh god, I just realized something. She leaves cheese out. She describes Hightown as "the rich, fancy part of the city with no rats in it". She keeps going back to the alienage and doesn't really like the Hawke estate.
It's the rats, she totally misses her rats.

"I'd name mine Feathers!"
Merrill's use of free time: Naming small, fuzzy animals.

She needs to return in DA3! Merrill has won me over as the best ally in DA2, and not seeing her ever again in a storyline would break my heart!
I'd love to see her in a cameo role, but I wouldn't want anything more than that. I like the idea of Hawke and Merrill fading into the background.
I should add that I only think she shouldn't be a companion or major character if Hawke isn't the PC of DAIII. To be honest, I don't see that happening at all. Hawke's story was pretty neatly ended in DAII. If Hawke were to return, though, Merrill sure as hell better be at her side.
[EDIT] Guise. So, when Anders was ****ing at Merrill about how Marethari was so noble and all for willingly taking an uber-powerful pride demon into her and unleashing it on the world... anyone else think he was projecting more than a little?

I want Merrill in a DLC or Expansion, and as a cameo or companion (second only if Hawke is the playable character or is a companion) in DA3.

After he's been knifed.
Which reminds me, I've only ever had to fight Fenris at the end of the game, and he shows up with guards. Seeing as I'd never, ever play an anti-Merrill (or even anti-mage, for that matter) playthrough, does anybody know if you fight her alone, or does she have some help too?

From what I've heard, she'll have mages by her side, along with Anders(if you haven't killed him or fully rivaled him.)DoNotIngest wrote...

I disagree! Only half (at best) of the Hawke story has been told, in my opinion. DA2 showed how the world was shattered, DA3 will be all about putting the world back together, and as Cassandra says, Hawke seems to be the only person who can do it. If they changed characters again, it would be pretty jarring, much more than not using the Warden in DA2.
And of course, Merrill for DA3 is a must if and when Hawke returns.

I think a new protagonist is the only sensible thing to do. Hawke broke the world, someone new needs to step up to fix it. Hawke ran away. What did she do after the battle at the Gallows? She hid for three years, visibly doing nothing. What would be jarring is if she came back and said "Yeah, I had no interest in preventing the war, but now I'm here to finish it B)"

Which only further proves that Hawke is Batman... or at least Bruce Wayne without the need for a Secret Identity.

And I have a theory that Cassandra will kow how to use Hawke's reputation to end the war, as the Chantry and the Divine are pretty much the only people who have enough perspective on the matter to end the conflict. I don't blame Hawke and Co. for running away; there's only so much one ragtag bunch of lovable misfits can do without a bigger picture in terms a of a war of this scale.

It just broke my heart, too, that her stupidity led to Marithari's death. I loved that character from the first game, and the fact that it went down the way it did left a bitter taste in my mouth. I seriously wished we had the option to hand Merrill over to the hunters when you come out of the cave.

God I hate Merrill. Such an awful, awful character to develop as a bloodmage; I think her strongest part in this whole story is to prove just how stupid the general population of mages are, and how only a few strong willed ones could ever hope to master Blood magic without succumbing to it. (and I'm an avid pro-mage-freedom fan.) Morrigan, for instance, struck me as someone I would never have to worry about becoming possessed. She has the raw iron and intellect needed to handle a magic as dangerous as that. Merrill strikes me as an incredibly stupid kid with no strength of character, no intelligence, no real anything to offer at all, and an incredibly jello liquid brain that's ripe for the manipulation of the weakest demon in existence. I can't even believe a character like that became a Keeper's first in the first place; Zathrian's first in DA:O struck me as competent, bright, passionate, etc. Where the crap did Merrill come from, are the pickings as thin as that for sifting out future clan leaders?

Blood magic is all natural. If they'd added the addiction mechanic for lyrium potions instead of foisting off all the drawbacks on Templars, I think this would be more clear.TMA LIVE wrote...
Do you like Bloodmagic because you think it's a power that has good uses for society?
Instead we have the PC and mage characters continuously chucking down a substance that seems to lead to mental degradation, addiction, and insanity without any negative effects.
I never really had to take Lyrium in DA2 when playing a mage. But even if I did, I don't think I would abuse drinking it, to the point of smuggling boatloads, and being addicted. Besides, draining yourself of blood, and waiting for your body to refill I imagine is more unhealthy. While Lyrium requests me to drink a Energy Drink.
Anyways, how about being able to tell if someone was possessed? Like with what Merrill did with the Templar. That seems useful.

Out of curiosity, when? I've just been assuming because of Year 7 versus "ten years!" Did a dev say it was three years later somewhere?
