Merrill - She's a Keeper!

Compared with Merrill:
http://browse.devian...tion=&q=merrill
Granted, some of the "Merrill" fanart doesn't even concern Merrill from Dragon Age 2.
I have chapter one of my fanfic up on FF.net, but it seems to be updating very slowly - I made significant revisions to the first chapter shortly after uploading it, and it seems that these changes have not taken place yet.

Which is silly, given that I do think she looks adorable and I find her first costume physically quite flattering. I guess it's just that when she's clothed, the emphasis is on more than that.
However, should a nude study be produced that was contextually interesting and told me something about Merrill, then I'd have a different opinion about it. For example, one of the reasons the book art is my favorite is because it tells you so much about Merrill and what she values, and it tells you a great deal about her relationship with that particular Lady Hawke.

Oddly enough enough there are nudes of Merrill kicking around even in this thred but they're all so artful, a few of them make Donatello look like Cranach.
...Derp?
There's only the one "nude" (quotations because she's covering herself in all the right places) pic in this thread, correcto?
True I just wanted to make the clever Reinassance art reference.

It's also just weird how she's shyly looking away at one point, and then hungrily kissing Hawke the next. I expected her to be more demure, but then it's entirely possible she has that weird librarian thing going on. I always found that archetype to be creepy, though.

Sorry. xD; My comment was aimed at the fandom on a whole, not just this thread.DoNotIngest wrote...

Great, now you're making me feel bad that I've not updated my fanfic.
{snip}
I have nothing against Lady Hawke or her with Merrill; I just see waaaaay more Lady Hawke in any DA2 fan art/fanfiction, and while I like a lot of it, I also roll with a male Hawke most of the time and I can relate to it more, so I'd like to see more of it. But I realize most fan artists/writers are female, including myself - I'm just one of the few oddball female fans that prefers playing male characters and drawing the female companions more than the male ones. DA2's far from the first like that with me.DoNotIngest wrote...
I like female
Hawke, and I love Merrill&female Hawke fanart/fanfics, but seeing
how I roll with a male Hawke when I romance Merrill (Every playthrough;
What can I say, I like to emulate myself in a game, and I wouldn't be
going for anyone else), I wish there was some male Hawke&Merrill
fanart. I can't recall any besides yours, at the moment (which is A+).
Also, there is male!Hawke/Merrill art out there outside of my stuff - a few on DA I can think of. But you have to hunt around for them.
I have a wonderful relationship with my father. However, he does not have busy eyebrows. In fact, until his hair recently started graying and his eyebrows turned white, you usually couldn't see them at all unless ou were up close. I just love facial expressions/body language and I find that thick eyebrows tend to make expressions (serious or silly) more overt. That's partly why I find them appealing. Mind, I don't think everyone looks better with thicker eyebrows, but I do feel a little sad when I see pencil thin eyebrows. :CDoNotIngest wrote...

Considering I've never had a great relationship with my father (he goes
from loving to volatile so quickly, it's ridiculous), I rarely like
bushy eyebrows. They go fine with a beard, though.
But I go off topic again, so... Have a Merrill screencap:

I love when they LIs come to talk to Hawke after "All That Remains" Such a nice touch. <3 Also, I adore Merrill's profile. I think it's the nose.

You mean how all the new elves have very little if any indentation in the bridge of their nose? It's one of the more alien features of the new elves but it is indeed completely adorable.

I think you clevered it right over my head!
If the previously posted pic of Merrill in this thread counts as nude art, then I really don't mind it. Granted, that's about as nude as I want to see Merrill fanart. I'm quite happy enough with her frolicking around in her (kickass) outfit.
EDIT @ Dalish: I don't mind the pencil thin eyebrows. If Merrill had big fuzzy caterpillars, I'd cry into my pillow until 3am every night for a year and a day

All of her aspects add to it, but her nose is certainly cute in of itself.
"So where is all the Merrill fan art of her in her romance armor, that armor is awesome! Someone is going to have a remedy that… bugger it! I’ll try. Give me a week or two… "
There's not a lot, you see, because The Scarf is absent. Throw the scarf on if you do draw it, okay? Please?

Yup! I know some people don't like that about the new elf design, but I do. It's different, and I think it looks good in its own, quirky way. I love the new elf designs, particularly their noses. Merrill's is just especially awesome, somehow.
I wouldn't call hers pencil thin. Short, yes - but there's weight to them. I'm speaking more in terms of Aveline's. Though I do wish Merrill's eyebrows were perhaps longer, I wouldn't want her to have eyebrows like Fenris. Those wouldn't suit her.DoNotIngest wrote...

Thick and bushy eyebrows don't really work romantically for me at all (seeing as I'm interested in women). Really, anything thick doesn't really suit Merrill; I love how lithe everything about her seems, without making her look too thin. She doesn't look underweight to me at all, quite the opposite, she looks natural.

There are women with thicker eyebrows I would call attractive, partly because of the eyebrows. But, as aforementioned, much as I like thick eyebrows in general, they don't work for everyone. And while I might not like thin eyebrows by themselves, I do think they fit certain designs. Aveline's, for instance - while her eyebrows by themselves irk me, I like them on her because the contrast of her strong features and personality with such "weak" eyebrows is an interesting clash to me, that I think works well for a little contrast.DoNotIngest wrote...

And I agree with Merrill, which is partly why I say thick eyebrows wouldn't suit her; she's a lithe thing, and features that go with that suit her more. I can't say I find them romantically attractive, as I'm not interested in other women that way... But, from a pure character design standpoint, I love it. I'm big on character design and variety in body types/facial features.
Edited for typos. I'm making a lot of those this week. Boo.

I always feel sad at the end. The archdemon, in many ways, is your first true companion. Yes, you meet Alistair first but he barely talks to you until after Ostagar, whereas you have your first conversation with the archdemon after your Joining. He/she/it is always talking to you, and you dream of the Old God of Beauty after Lothering. siiiigh.
As for the gender thing: male dragons are supposedly drakes, and High Dragons are all female. The Old Gods are supposedly ancient high dragons of incredible power: but the archdemons are referred to with a male pronoun. Curious.

Hm. A good point. I knew about the drake = male thing, but for some reason didn't connect it to the archdemon. That is curious. Maybe the male Old Gods are just unusually large drakes, but since they look more like dragons, everyone assumes they are?
