This made me wonder if Isabela would be more of a "sour apple"... Posted Image

Your name is strangely appropriate for this thread.

I'd assume Merrill has a nature and fruity taste  :P

PATCH! Huzzah! I am working my way through Awakenings, but now that M is fixed, perhaps I shall return to DA2 . . . I've been putting off a rivalmance, a rogue, and a second mage until the patch.

What? It's the same generic model as the regular Dalish armor. It's not really hers. The original armor is unique and may be properly said to be her definitive physique.

I am not entirely sure, however, how bosoms can be "awesome" nor why we are examining them. :P

It's the same physique, though. It's just more apparent with her mail, because the cloth robe is all baggy and stuff.

I'm not entirely sure how bosoms can be aweseome either, but they are.

Baggy? She's wearing skintight chainmail. :P I think her curves are greatly exaggerated on the second armor.

I just think sour flavours should be reserved for Bela. She's, ah... special that way.

Well, not sour. Actually, when Maria said "sweet with a bit of tart," except maybe a tad more tart than she was imagining. I don't think Fuji apples are quite as tart as what I had in mind. Grannysmith apples are the green ones, right? Now I'm thinking of sinking my teeth into something called "grannysmith." Lovely.

I'm a little more worried about the "sinking my teeth" part than the "grannysmith" bit. Though, now you have me thinking, "This tastes like Grandma!" (Ralph eating tobacco-tomatos, old Simpsons show). Great.

It's a shame we're not talking about Merrill's mouth, isn't it? "Merrill - She's a pervmagnet!"

That's what I mean. As far as the skintight chainmail goes, the curves are the same. That skintight chainmail, however, is hidden by her burlap sack.

On the DA wiki it says Hawke will say things like "I think Merrill named this falcon sculpture Finnegan. No, wait... that's wrong. Finnegan's on the north face. This one's Messerre Pointy-Face." if you click on one of those statues in Act 3, or "I came in and watered your plants! Lots of love, Merrill." That girl's way too nice." If you click on a plant or something in Hawke's estate.

Anyone ever heard these?

No, only read them Posted Image Only ever heard the "Merrill's been jumping on the bed again" (damnable dog gets rid of this one), the one about her only moving in the flowers, and the re-Merrilled swinging-on-chandelier. Wish there were more, there are tons for Isabela.

I've heard the water your plants one. If she isn't romanced, it says "I came in and watered your plants. Your friend Merrill" Haven't heard the statue one yet.

I never got the water-the-plants one. I always assumed it was the thing about Fenris from then on and didn't bother to check :(

You have to click the letters in Act 2 repeatedly to get it. Takes a while but you'll get it. Don't know which Act gets the bird one.

I'm not so sure. One of the reasons (including the scarf-less neck) that I dislike the second outfit is that she seems to have gotten some augmentation done. You can see that pretty easily from the side, where the "burlap sack" (I happen to like that outfit!) isn't in the way.

Iaius, glad to see some more love for the burlap sack. It went so well with the scarf!

The fic with fleeing MaleHawke&Merrill meeting Oghren and Anders hasn't been updated yet, has it? What a terrible thing to do to us, rewriting the first chapter with better grammar and making us wait :(

Oh, and I'm sure Anders can stop any toe-losing. Just sayin'.

Fujis have a far more mellow flavor than granny-smith apples. There's no way to know if we're talking the same tart levels though.

Can you drink beer or coffee? Those are extraordinarily bitter to me. When I go to Starbucks, they'll occasionally put a shot of espresso in my chai. It's obvious to me when I smell it and the taste is horrible, yet if I give others a sip, they can't tell there's anything there.

Which is a round about way of saying that if we wanted to correctly describe the flavor to one another, we'd be better off both sampling and then discussing levels of tartness vs sweet.

I don't go to Starbucks... So I can't comment on coffee.

And when I eat wings, I don't bother remove the bones... So I can't talk about subtlety food-wise, either.

Sorry :(

But I would think the sweetest fictional character to ever live would be predominantly sweet in every way Posted Image

Are the Starbucks where you are that dumb that they put coffee in your tea?

I like that outfit too! But it does look like a burlap sack! Anyway, I've done quite a bit of examining regarding that outfit. The chainmail is totally skintight. It follows the cleft of her buttocks and the curves of the underneath of her breasts... it makes me think the mail was painted onto a nude body model instead of built around it. But my point is that I think her breasts are larger than you give her give her credit for.

I have been known to drink espresso black. But that's a lever of bitterness far gone from how I'd describe an... apple.

*is suddenly reminded of Leliana's "forbidden fruit" conversation*
*giggles*

But definitely not pear. Your average granny-smith is about the level of tartness I'm talking about. Which is why I mentioned it to begin with... I haven't had a Fuji in a while.

I talked about this on the Fanfiction is a Harsh Tevinter Magister thread (which is apparently a counterpart to my thread?) but I don't like it when people write in present tense.

At this point, I've probably read over 350 novels, 80k-200k, all of which were in past tense. Then I encounter a fan fic in present tense and I can't muddle through it. It's no different than if they decided to write with no capitalization or punctuation.

It's frustrating because it seems to be a popular tense in ff.

So it would seem. It was originally titled "Fanfiction Sucks: DAII Edition" or something similar. I chuckled at that. I thought maybe the OP changed the title out of fear.

Present tense can work. I personally associate with pulp or noir narration, but I think a deft writer can make it work in any genre. Most writers aren't that deft.

In any case, present-tense narration should serve some purpose. If it doesn't, well... at best, it's a gimmick. At worst, it's a hallmark of someone who simply doesn't know how to write.

Fanfiction is practically by definition amateur (which, considering its etymology, I find incredibly appropriate). I would not expect "most" fanfiction writers to be able to pull off present-tense. And even when a writer is that skilled, very rarely would I expect there to be any cause for it. When it doesn't create an intended effect for the reader, it's just in the way. And then you "can't muddle through it."

I don't there's any doubt that that's what they did, it's quite evident, or at least evident enough for someone to mod that chainmail off, which can be found on the DA Nexus, with very little effort.

I'd post the link, but I'd imagine that some people in this thread would get a tad distressed over the idea of Merrill going out in public with less clothing than Isabela.
