Yeah, mods do nothing for me. And I romanced Merrill my first run and Isabela my second. It kept me going, but I'm at the middle of Act 3 now, and am not playing to the end just to see a kiss I can watch on YouTube.

Why not try playing different personalities?

I do. My first Hawke was diplomatic while my second was charming. I played a mage the first time and a warrior the second.

DAO : 16 playthroughs...

I would kill myself.

World of Warcraft is the game I've completed the most. I did so as a fighter, paladin, and druid. Even then, that's only once per year, and after a content shift (vanilla -> space-goat -> winter).

I played Portal twice. Once normal and once with the developer commentary on.

See, for me, watching a kiss on YouTube isn't nearly as gratifying as getting it in-game.

I concur. Watching some isn't as fun as getting some. I'm not as into watching, it makes me feel disconnected. :?

... either way, you're watching it. Its a cinematic.

I think blue, green, and red make a great combination. If we wanted to, we can now fight crime together.

I support this idea. Lady Hawke, Merrill, and Isabela are this thread's favorite people. Oh, and Danarius.

Thus, The Powerpuff Ponies were born
Using their ultra-super powers
Hawke, Isabela, and Merrill
Have dedicated their lives to fighting crime (sorta)
And the forces of evil

makenzieshepard has AvelinePony.

If anyone is unfamiliar with how this works, you can read up on the Five Man Band.

So.. Merrill. I'm a bit sad that everyone creates new threads for the 'how much does Merrill suck?' conversations. Is it because they perceive us as hostile?

I mentioned in the other thread, that when it comes to IQ, I consider Merrill the smartest of the party companions. She's an absent minded professor type.

I agree. I've always thought Merrill to be more than a bit prodigious.

I don't think anyone views us as hostile. I think they just don't want to hurt our feelings.

I always thought that they were daunted by the size of the thread. Some folks crave attention, and posting on page 500 is less attention-getting than starting a new topic. As for Merrill, I think that she made a bad decision with the eluvian, but she had good intentions and she's so super cute that it's hard to stay mad at her. I want to hug her and protect her from making bad choices.

You only think it's a bad choice because you're so much stupider than Merrill. That's what happens when there's not an intelligence stat.

I also think they probably don't want to risk startling the herd and getting stampeded into dust.

As for Merrill's decsion I always felt the risk wasn't worth the reward.  Demons/spirits are always high risk and we have no idea what the reward could be.  What Merrill can glean from it might be big or it might end up being nothing.  And it does blind her to helping out her people in other ways.  The past is important, but should not require the present to be sacrificed.  I know why the options are limited in the game, to force use into a choice but I would've preferred having Hawke encourage Merrill to research by non demon/blood magic means.  She's not evil, stupid at worst I'd say she has blinders on but that's hardly a unique character trait in the DA setting.

I'd like to think Merethari took in the pride demon because she thought a living Merrill was worth more to the Dalish than the eluvian.

I understand you, but I think that's being generous.

My displeasure with Marethari may be not-entirely-rational, however.

I think she did it to protect someone she loved.

Simple, no real deep thought process. Just, protect Merrill.

My first playthrough was without a DA:O save and being biased for heroines I picked "The Martyr" background, hence the warden was a dead, Dalish and female.

I found myself squeeing when the Dalish elves kept commenting how Merrill was especially broken-up with Mahariel's loss. More so when Merrill first discussed the mirror with Hawke and made references to Mahariel, saying something along these lines (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

"The keeper told me she died defeating the Archdemon, now I can never...anyway..."

I was like, "Wow...she had the hots for a female Mahariel, by default!" I may be reading too much into it but yeah, yay subtext.

Needless to say I had to play DA:O with a female Dalish just to see the difference and restarted DA:2 with that save.

Anyone else noticed this?

Well, it's mainly because drudging up old threads can be a chore and people will damn you for necromancy a lot more than they'll damn you for making a thread. It's also nice to have a clean slate with which to polemically make your point.

As for hostility...you have not seen the Thousand Nations of the Tali Empire descend upon you. Or the Fengirls, as ish calls them, they're apparantly the DA2 equivalent.

She says it for any imported Mahariel, male or female, but yeah, I noticed it. Very first time I ever played the Dalish origin and Merrill gives that longing stare as he walks towards destiny with Duncan, I knew something had to be up.
