BioWare benefits from giving the community a toolset. The drawbacks are pretty obscure, as in, someone makes a nude Merrill skin using files already in the game and the ESRB says DA II is pornographic.

It just takes time, resources, and money like everything else, and they have to decide if they're going to spend that on content all of 1%-5% of the community actively uses.

In case of Origins you need the toolset if you want to use self created item-models because you need the GraphicsProcessor.exe files to create the mmh and msh files. I don't see any new DA2-models on nexus, only texture,tint-alterations, so maybe the exe-files from the old toolset don't work anymore. I haven't tried to create a model for DA2 but it could be.

Custom models work in DAII just fine. It's just that not many people actually make custom models.

My comment was sepcifically about the quest rewards, however. DAII uses a 2DA to define experience, coin, and item rewards for every quest and encounter in the game. All one needs to do to make an item a quest reward is add the item's refid to the approriate row in the rewards file.

Merrill 2.0 needs a scarf. Not to cover her neck; I think her long neck is adorable (om-nom-nom). But the scarf is simply too wondeful an accessory. I really wish BioWare had included it. It would have differentiated it even more from the default elven medium armor, and it would have given it a distinctive Merrill flavor.

Glad to see others are giving her regular Dalish armor too. The chainmail is distracting. Which mod is this, then?

I had a look myself, and the put-merrill-in-the-standard-Dalish-armour mod seems to be this one, from the look of the screenshots.

The chainmail is necessary on the first one because otherwise it's woefully inappropriate. It's not necessary on the second set because it's unneeded.

What is everyone working on? Since it's the first Merrillday, I decided to do some Merrill art.

Let me tell you, this art is going to blow people away with it's... artness. There are lines. Definitely lines that are drawn in a connecting way. And, I'd say those line create a figure that could certainly be interpreted as Merrill.

The "old" .exe files work, but the source data for the normal vectors has to be provided in slightly different format, otherwise the shading in DA2 gets all wrong (as the game gets incorrect idea which way the geometry faces)  I don't think there's yet any exporter plugin for a 3d program available to public which handles that.

I only joked. Perhaps I should try to word my stuff differently next time.

And showcasing Merrill stuff? There's more out there?

I figured that you people had already plunged through the entire internet, plucking out the finest Merrill fanfics, fanart and the like and put them up for display here. Not saying it is a bad thing, though. It's just that you people are REALLY fast at these kind of things.
Either way, since I have my hands full on a different fanfic and can't draw anything remotely close to even a cat, I'll just refrain from doing so.
