As far as i know yes, pretty much -- the sets of family members presets are picked depending on the PC preset you pick, and they're created with skin tone which should match that PC preset. If you replace the PC preset with something else, then you'd need to replace the family members presets with ones edited to match the new skin tone used by the PC preset, it won't adjust automatically or anything like that.

pre-set that you have the ability to change, but the family members
never really match the color unless I chose black, and I was going more
of a tanned look.

There's even a mod for that on Nexus somewhere(can't find it right now).

This won't look too good on resolutions below 1680*1050 (not sure about higher ones; I made it for myself and since that's the resolution I use, it's the only one I made sure looked good), but I'm sharing it in case someone would like to use it.

Could you post a screenshot perhaps? I wanna see the how background is handled as well as the upper images. Glad you like it.

It is, you just have to watch out which quests you bring her on. Any quests involving mages is best done without Merrill until you max her out with rivalry. You can get her to around 50% friendship and then refuse her the elf-knife thingy and it should flip the meter for you.
In Act 2 bring her around to destroy the first 4 tomes for +40 Rivalry. Then don't give her the elf-knife wonder tool and you'll be all set.

Oh yeah, it's really easy just don't give her the tool and destroy some evil tomes.
