Alright Merrill thread, super fun time question(s).

Does Merrill keep the Eluvian if you friendship her? I'm trying to do a playthrough with all potential plot threads, I did friendship but it was bugged and never saw it's finale. Just trying to wonder if I should go friendship for the mirror.

... and another question, what happens if you friendship Merrill and blame her for what happened with Marethari? Does she admit it's her fault like in the rivalry or does she call the Keeper stupid and blame her?

Is there even such option? I've used the console to trigger friendship route conversations at the end of her arc, and basically only got to pick between three variations of "you're right, cheer up". Which was quite annoying, but meh.

I honestly felt bad when I saw this. It's adorable/sad/cute/heartwrenching at the same time! 
I believe this is when Merrill was a child, soon after she was transferred from clans.

So, my other Merrill Monday ideas are either still cooking or stale, so I wrote a poem instead. It's not... literally very Merrill... but there was a degeree of inspiration. Anyway.




The whispering wind blows across the plain,
Snow swept every which way,
Stopping only to visit the back of my hand.
Cold, but it melts against the warmth of skin,
Its solidity as evanescent as the lives it ends
As chill water spreads gently over my hand.
I look out, seeing nothing but the blizzard,
Never-ending, always moving, covering
The once-soft soil with ice. Dead now,
Lifeless grass poking out, frozen too, untouched
By men. Surrounded by the bleak emptiness
Of the world created by the snowfall, I know
Beneath the frost, the grass was green here, once.

An Ode to Merrill

I thought I would conclude my discussion on Dragon Age 2 on a lighter note. It's popular to point out the flaws of the game in review form, or talk about how RPGs like DA 2 simply have less under the hood. But I wanted to take a moment to talk about one of the most memorable elements of any good RPG: an excellent character.

I've played a ton of RPGs, but I always come back to a few characters that are very special to me and stand out in my mind. There's Vivi from Final Fantasy IX; Frog from Chrono Trigger; Celes from FF VI; Garrus from Mass Effect; and many more. But I may have found my favorite character in an RPG to date in Merrill; Dragon Age 2's Dalish elf.
