Was there ever a talk with Merrill regarding the sibling death??

Yes there was and still is, and I can confirm Friendly Concern triggers now. I can't remember if it was pre or postAll That Remains for me. But it was after the chat w/ Isabella.

Nope, I never got it.

That would be one of those moments where Hawke auto responding based on their pre-existing personality really bugs me. I mean, come on.

Merrill: I love you!
Hawke: <cracks a joke>

No, no, no.

Sarcastic Hawke is sarcastic. Just because he's sharing an intimate moment where his adorable new lover is spilling her feeling-guts out and immediately tries to apologize for it, it totally calls for some joking. Then again I'm programmed alot differently than most people.Posted Image

I think that line flows more smoothly to her next line then the diplomatic preset.

I love that line! Here is Merrill in a panic that she said "I love you" way to soon and she gets a reply that to me says "I want you for the rest of my life" from Hawke

I can just imagine sarcastic Hawke saying to the nobles who got offended that Merrill moved in:

Fine, if it makes you happy I wont have sex up against the windows anymore..... prudes....

Odd question, but maybe you people can help.

It seems like it's generally agreed upon that the Dalish are super serious about sex, but I can't remember where this is originally established. Anyone remember?

My gut reaction is the Dalish origin while talking with Ashalle (maybe in the story about the PC's parents), but I could be way off-base. Might be in Cammen's sidequest-he rejects the prospect of giving Gheyna a present by saying it would be inappropriate, if I remember correctly.

Edit: Ninjaed.

Although judging by how easily persuaded both Cammen and Gheyna were, I'm not sure if they're really that serious about being serious.

A bit late on this topic, but I agree. What I do is temporarily change my tone (with the console) to get the aggressive or diplomatic responses, which are much more fitting to what I wanted to say there.

What is the aggressive personality response there anyway?

Merrill: "I always say the stupidiest things... "
Hawke: "You don't say stupid things. I love you, and I want you here with me."

Funny as the sarcastic line may be, I strongly prefer to actually tell her that I love her.

Meh I prefer Hawke using humor there. It's a character flaw, he (or she) can't find the right thing to say because all he exceeds at in conversation is wit and banter. That inability to approach the conversation in a serious tone rounds the character and de-sue-ifies.

True.

Although for my sarcastic mage he simply does that because he finds that cracking a joke is simply the best policy in ALL situations.

Although poor Viscount that joke during the last quest with him... ooh that was bad.

I'd still like the option. Given that they obviously record three lines in response, not having a conversation wheel appear like every other time just baffles me.

I'd also suggest you can be light-hearted without emotionally becoming, well, Isabela, or always relying on sarcasm/'wit'. I'd actually pretty much entirely used diplomatic responses with Merrill before then.

Eh sure, it all depends on YOUR Hawke.

I'm just glad I can play a mostly sarcastic one and use the console to change my tone. I agree with Bleetman though, this is a case where having the wheel pop up with all three options would be more than welcome (the speech at the end is another case).

Sarcastic Hawke is always saying inappropriate crap XD

When I RP a sarcastic Hawke, I do like to pretend she's a bit awkward in certain situations (like attempting to console the Viscount after his son's death) and hides that with humor...really bad humor.

The problem is that the game doesn't make any distinction between a pure sarcastic Hawke, and a Hawke who picks the sarcastic responses slightly more than the others.

This.

While my canon Hawke was overall sarcastic, it was a close call with the aggresive reponses. I didn't choose to play a sarcastic Hawke, it just happened that in the majority of occasions, the sarcastic option was the most fitting. So the whole automatically setting that tone for all default responses led to many cringe worthy moments that were not what I wanted to pick.
