It's probably just a mistake, anyway. There's no reason that Merrill wouldn't be speaking at all, except if they just couldn't get Ms. Myles.
Rumor says they didn't.
Though, it's only a rumor as of now.

They're not going to have a DLC where all the companions talk but one.TMA LIVE wrote...
I don't think she'll be talking though.

That said, it's possible they brought in a new VA.

All of the followers have brand new lines, and the new party banter is as good or better in some cases (in my opinion) than the main game - same writers, same VO talent, etc. In particular with the Family/Carta/Wardens connection, there are also unique scenes with followers like the siblings, Varric and Anders. Also, depending on which point in the game you begin there are also scenes with Mother.

Start the thing from a point where Anders has his stabbing yet to come.bleetman wrote...

Huh. This may be the first time I've actually felt bad about stabbing Anders in the spine. Thank you for introducing me to a genuinely new sensation.

So, since BW is ready to reveal a few things on the Legacy DLC now (like in the presentation yesterday), I talked to Fernando Melo and asked him whether we could expect some cool new dialogues from our companions (especially Merrill ^^).
He just confirmed it, here you go:Fernando Melo wrote...

I rather like this

Great! This is the main reason i was sad Seb wasn't a act 1 companion, missing dialogue with Bethany and Carver thanks!Fernando Melo wrote...

Yep. Basically any follower that appears in the party selection screen including Sebastian (if you have Exiled Prince DLC) you can bring, and they will have new lines.
I haven't coem across anything that denies or confirms a tempoary return, but I'm guessing no, the trophy that requires Carver or Beth to be present must be gained before act 2 or after the game is finished and they've returned.TheBlackBaron wrote...
Do the sibs come back temporarily if you're doing the DLC in Act II or Act III? That would be one thing that might get me to buy it.

The real thing I want to know is if there will be new places to gain Friendship and Rivalry.

Yes. I won't spoil it with the how, but as I mentioned above as long as they exist in your party selection screen (whether selectable or not in main game due to their duties) you will have access to them for the DLC.
Really? Wow that's brillant!Fernando Melo wrote...

No I distinctly remember putting about 300 hundred arrows into the Varterral whilst simulatenously chanting "ItsNotASpider" repeatedly and then Marethari personally handing the carving knife to me. She says so specifically "I'm giving this to you Hawke." So the Keeper, who is a Leader of the Dalish people and thus completely aware of the rules governing their customs and tradition, hands me a filthy filthy thief and killer of a Shemlen their sacred whittlin' knife.jlb524 wrote...
You can't really justify keeping the arulin'holm...it's theft...plus stabbing Merrill in the back.
Its not theft if I earned it and was specifically given it. I am merely the arbiter of its ownership. Essentially I am an escrow with a conscience.
Not really...it rightfully belongs to Merrill...she called the rite...she accomplished the goal (even though she had others aid her). The tool belongs to any member of the clan that calls the rite and does the task (regardless if they had help)..the tool belongs to Merrill under Dalish custom...when did Hawke become a member of that Dalish clan?
The Keeper defied her word and Dalish custom....
Which makes her rebel like Edward James Olmos in Stand and Deliver. You don't mess the Olmos... or Marethari.
