I only got this game a week ago.

Is there something wrong with me, because I had a huge mansquee moment when I met Merrill. It was something like...

Hawke: Ohmygod she's so adorable! Aveline, can we keep her!?
Aveline: (facepalm) Dammit, Hawke.

It's okay. Even Varric's masculinity couldn't repel adorableness of that magnitude - what hope do us mere mortals have?

I hope not because I reacted pretty much the same way. When I walked up the path to sundermount and the scene switched to Merrill I was like: Ohh she's so adorable! Then all her dialogue only made it better and she's actually really funny. Reaching a peak when she asked Fenris if he stepped on something sharp, got his fingers between a door or smacked his head against a beam.:D

Asking Aveline if she thought Qunari liked sunshine, butterflies or rainbows was also quite funny=]

Nuff said.

My lady Hawke's can almost never resist her :o
Only happened twice, only for future import reasons >:o
~~eing unfaithful to Merrill hurts~~

I wasn't really amused by Merrill at first. It took some time for her to grow on me before she became my favorite character in the game. Now, she was never near being my least favorite in the beginning(that title belongs to Fenris and will remain if I'm not amused by his romance path(which I'm currently doing)), but I was not amused by her "naive, but cute" factor.

That first meeting is pure Gold. Then minutes later, Skeletons. Then a few more minutes later, angry Hunter. Then... Blood Magic. I had a sad. Then I quickly got over that the first time I got to flirt with her.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't ask your name. Unless... it's not rude to ask a human their name, is it? I'm Merrill, which you probably knew already. I'm rambling, sorry"

You hear that, Anders? That's the sound of you never accompanying me again.

If having that reaction is wrong, I don't want to be right.

I always figured it was a bit strange for men to have squee moments.  But I just couldn't help myself.

Seriously, when I first met her at sundermount, I was like this: Posted Image

I always recruit Merrill first after picking up Aveline again and starting the "The Way it Should Be" quest. I figure that's the first chance Hawke has to get out to Sundermount, so she might as well go and drop off the amulet after fighting off the bandits...no biggie.

I've always just gone straight there, get that debt squared away as soon as possible. It's already lasted a year by that point, after all.

I wait until I've recruited everyone I could in Kirkwall first before I go to Sundermount.

Yeah...but it's not like Flemeth's going anywhere XD

I always find the amulet part kind of comical.   Hawke thinks the quest is a simple delivery; drop the amulet off and then head back home.  But when she gets there, it's like, "Oh no, you're not done yet..." and she has to follow the clan's first up a shady skeleton infested mountain in order to facilitate an elven ritual on the amulet.   After all that, she has to take the clan's first back to the city and help her get situated in a new home.  So much for a simple delivery.  I think it worked out fine though (besides the Flemeth part...that's probably bad).

To quote Varric, "something about this creepy ancient magic thing makes me nervous".
Besides, it's an excuse to go to Sundermount first :innocent:

Why is everybody so scared of Flemeth? If you trusted Merril's judgment, you'd know that she's just some ancient powerful thing that the elves actually do respect, on at least some level.

Chaotic, sure. Dangerous? All right, but pretty much everybody in Dragon Age is dangerous. Bad news? Not necessarily, I think.

I wouldn't exactly describe it as being scared of her, but Flemeth reminds me of someone else not too dissimilar. Enigmatic, magical old women are not to be trusted.

Pretty much. Hell, if Flemeth turns out to be half the character Kreia was, then she'll be a great character and a driver of storylines.

The elves do seem to respect Flemeth but also fear her power at the same time.  Merrill herself does mention the bit about most people that meet Flemeth 'end up in little pieces hanging from the trees.'  But I would say that the elves don't have the same kind of stories about her as humans do...you know, the whole demon possesion thing and snatching up children to eat them and what not....so the elves probably do think differently of her.

No one knows what Flemeth's true intentions are though (except, perhaps Morrigan but she won't tell us).

But when she finally does turn on The Warden/Hawke or whomever the protagonist in that story is, make it less obvious that's she's going to do so?:innocent:

On the topic of Merrill. Now this has probably been discussed 100 times already but I have no time to read through all 500+ pages of this topic so I'll just ask again:

If Hawke romances Merrill and side with the mages, Hawke eventually leaves Kirkwall and Merrill goes with him/her. Considering Merrill's clan is either dead or doesn't want to see Merrill again, what do you suppose happens to Merrill if Hawke doesn't romance her? Would she eventually look for a different Dalish clan to join, if that's even possible? I'm having a hard time imagining Merrill staying in a human city without Hawke or others to help her, so... what might happen to her?

I imagine that Merrill either makes her own clan like Jowan does when you release him from Redcliffe, or she remains a loner roaming through the wilds. I usually don't think of these things since I romance Merrill most of the time.

I don't think any Dalish clan will have her and she's exactly smart enough to make her own. I would hope she's not alone because like she said, a lone elf is a huge target and she's not very bright, which doesn't help her cause. So I would hope she was with Hawke, Varric or Isabela, someone to look after her or I fear for her fate.

I have to give the writers at voice actors at Bioware some big props.

I recently played Mirror Image, the quest where Merrill goes to get the dagger that I cannot pronounce from the Keeper, to repair the Eluvian.  When she ran into Pol in the cave and he ran.....

Wow.  I teared up pretty bad when she wept over him.  You could hear the pain in her voice.  I really wanted the option for Hawke to just sit and hold her for a while.  The whole affair was just awful for the poor girl :crying::crying:

Didn't like Pol anyway so I didn't really care about that scene. I did feel we needed a paragon interrupt to comfort Merrill during the final part of her quest A New Path (Since everyone either knows what I'm talking about or hasn't played this quest yet I'll refrain from using spoilers).

I romanced Merril for the first time and I was amazed how loving and adorable it was. I don't think I could stray from her now. She needs protecting, and my Hawke will protect her. But I never will romance her if I put a Dalish warden save through, she seemed really taken with my male Dalish elf.
