I have to give the writers at voice actors at Bioware some big props.

I recently played Mirror Image, the quest where Merrill goes to get the dagger that I cannot pronounce from the Keeper, to repair the Eluvian.  When she ran into Pol in the cave and he ran.....

Wow.  I teared up pretty bad when she wept over him.  You could hear the pain in her voice.  I really wanted the option for Hawke to just sit and hold her for a while.  The whole affair was just awful for the poor girl :crying::crying:

Didn't like Pol anyway so I didn't really care about that scene. I did feel we needed a paragon interrupt to comfort Merrill during the final part of her quest A New Path (Since everyone either knows what I'm talking about or hasn't played this quest yet I'll refrain from using spoilers).

But it wasn't about Pol.  It was about Merrill.  She was so wounded by what happend...you could hear the despair, the inability to understand, and the pain of something so terrible.

I hate to compare the two characters because it's been done to death and isn't a good comparison usually, BUT, we did need a Tali/hug interrupt at that moment.

Merrill is so alone in the world.  Hawke and his companions are her only friends, and she apparently feels loss more than most because of this.  The whole thing really showed how good her heart is.  She didn't hate Pol, even after all those things he said about her.  She just didn't want him to get hurt or killed.

I romanced Merril for the first time and I was amazed how loving and adorable it was. I don't think I could stray from her now. She needs protecting, and my Hawke will protect her. But I never will romance her if I put a Dalish warden save through, she seemed really taken with my male Dalish elf.

I know a lot of people complain about female characters that need protecting, but I can't help it.  She's so adorable, and the fact that she's 1) a good lady and 2) needs a bit of help turns my chivalry switch on to overdrive.  I can't help it.

Merill as she is written is quite strong. While it did take her time to get over the shock of seeing him run and all that was going on. She collects herself and to a point realizes this was truly not her fault and she was ready to get going. I think if anyone was thrown into that situation in their lives it be a pretty large shock and would take a while to collect yourself as well. Yes she's not the best as speaking and especially with new cultures, she is quite intelligent just she like so many of us can let our egos get in the way of better judgement.

What was amazing about that whole scene was how well her grief was portrayed by the voice acting.  It was physically painful to watch.  Poor Merrill.  I badly wanted a paragon interrupt to hug her right there.

so is her voice in the dlc?

Yes, all the companions get new lines for the DLC, with some very specific lines for Anders and Varric. Its been said we should defintely try the Legacy missions during Act 1 and then on another playthrough Act 3. Apparently stuff varies with time having passed. So I'm rather excited for that.

That's interesting. I can see why Anders and Varric would have specific lines, given what little I've seen from the trailer. I'm curious what response Merrill will have to the situation.

And it would require strength of character to embark on the path she did knowing it would alienate her from her clan. She's naive about social mores but thats really it.

I was playing Legacy when I heard Bethany teasing Hawke about the relationship with Merrill. It was cute.

Lucky you. I can't even download it yet but I'll be sure to play Legacy with a merrill romancing character first.

The best banter so far is the one that happens if Hawke has the blood smear on his face.

Merrill: You're not going to say anything are you?

Isabela: No! And don't you say anything to him either!

Hawke: I'm right here you know. What are you going on about?

Merrill: You have a bit of...something...on your nose there

Hawke: Really? How long has it been there?

Isabela: (sighs) Now you've gone and ruined it.

I played with Varric, Carver, and Merrill. All of Merrill's dialogue was with Varric, asking what stories he tells about her, and if he'd tell one about Griffins. But sadly nothing about the romance with this pairing.

Someone in one of the Legacy topics said he heard a conversation between Merrill and Anders about Merrill going through Ander's books looking for "dirty spells" to spice things up.

There really ought to be more banter throughout. I mean, there's seemingly tons of the stuff, but it only triggers in two places. Merrill said depressingly little in my playthrough.

There is a comment on the romance from Carver.

I heard Bethany's comment on it, with a sarcastic Hawke:

On the whole I found the DLC to be....

Most of missed it. He only commented on mother, and lowtown, being a Templar, and father.

Carver: So you and Merrill, huh?
Hawke: Merrill and I. Yes?
Carver: Wonderful. Happy for you.

His tone says other wise.

Giggles! Does your Hawke wear the Warden armor? My rogue certainly does. It looks much better than the champion armor.

Oh Carver, why must you be such an unrelenting dick.

When did that dialogue trigger, anyway? I got no such thing from Bethany, presumably because sarcastic Hawke and Varric kept hogging the dialogue by cracking wise with each other.

For those who want to know the banter triggers near the lower area after the double bronto fight.

God Bioware I am yours again.
IF you keep making this DLC.

God I adore the irony during the final fight.
Just Hawke and Merrill kicking ass.

The irony of a templar specced Hawke, and a Dalish mage kicking the bosses ass is THICK.
