Anybody had any luck with hearing romanced Merrill's banters with Hawke? I ran back and forth over a trigger point with just her and Hawke and then with them and various other party members, and haven't heard them.

I haven't done her Act III quest yet or Questioning Beliefs, so maybe that has something to do with it.

You mean Merrill talking to Hawke while out in Kirkwall? I've never heard of that. I remember Merrill talking to Aveline about it a little and naturally Isabella is very interested in hearing those sort of things. Other than that, I can't remember.

Haven't played Legacy with a playthrough in which both Bethany is alive and romanced Merrill (the only characters who fitted this description were old characters and with a bad build and gear, I won't be able to get through Legacy with those XD) so I'm not sure yet about Hawke/Bethany talking about Merrill in Legacy, bet it's nice though.

If you mean Merrill talking to other companions about Hawke and Merrill. There are a few. Isabela has one where she asks Merrill "So you and hawke, there is something there.." It has a funny ending. There is another with Varric initiating by asking Isabela, "So hawke and daisy?". There are more select dialgues. Anders has a jealous conversation he can have where he is angry for her sleeping with Hawke. Aveline has a talk with merrill that is amusing and has merrill explaining how she gets through all the crazyness. There are others but basically they're quick little conversations when just exploring.

Wow-forgot to add that I was talking about Legacy. That's what I get for posting when I'm tired. =]

I think they are bugged. Mary Kirby said a few pages back there are banters between only Hawke and Merrill in Legacy, but no one has said that they have been able to get them. And it's not just with Merrill. Most of the banters that are between only Hawke and a companion don't seem to be working.

Between fanfic mistaken as transcription and youtube vids that play lines out of order, it's getting a little difficult to know what any of you are seeing, or what it is you expect to see. What Act did you launch Legacy from? Merrill's one "romance reactive" banter with Hawke references the chandelier in Hawke's estate, but that only happens after she moves in.

Yeah, that’s part of the confusion. There are banters between followers that reference romance states and have interjections by Hawke, but those aren’t technically banters between that character and Hawke. It’s the one-on-one banters between a follower and Hawke (which the main game didn’t have) that may be having issues. So LT123, to be clear, when you ran through legacy with Merrill as the only party member, did she say any back and forth banters with Hawke at all, “romance” or not? Outside of Legacy plot related observations, I mean.

I loaded from a post-game save where I romanced Merrill and never got this.  When I finished I reloaded on casual with just Merrill and ran to the first banter "point" and didn't get anything.  I have not gotten any other back and forths between just Hawke and Merrill, either.

I didn't run through all of Legacy with her as the only party member. I used what I'm assuming is a banter trigger point-the doorway of the room where you can switch party members.

I ran back and forth through the doorway. Banters between party members triggered, and Hawke would occasionally interject. I got at least one that referenced the romance. I tried different combinations of companions, but Merrill's one-on-one banter with Hawke would not trigger, even when she was the only party member. When I only had her and Hawke in the party, neither of them started any banter.

However, I didn't spend much time testing this, so I may not have been patient enough. And I didn't run around any other places with just Merrill and Hawke in the party.

Edit: Formatting. And it's an Act III import.

Did not get it in my Act 2 save, or Act 3 save that romanced Merrill either.

The only one on one(sort of) dialogue I got with Hawke was when he said something about how he is tired of dungeons and such and for once he would like to go to the beach. And Isabela comments that she can recommend a few.

That one could be related to being a Sarcastic Hawke. Varric may reply something to the effect of "Hawke, the day you actually go to the Beach is when a deadly demon pirate armada would attack there." The entire tone of the conversation is humor. Much like Sarcastic hawkes comments earlier when clicking on the amg things. Stuff about Corypheos and hawke's wanting to meet him for the evil laugh he must have with a name like that. Another being wtih the Sibling in regards to the dwarves wanting their blood was about how crazy people just love blood. There is also the sarcastic hawke one about just once wanting to meet a mage that wasn't a blood mage. Maybe a spit mage. Varric replies "You'd really want to run into a spit mage?" "For variety sure."

The aggressive default line in the Merrill romance.
I like it.

Dang you're right, I've never had an aggressive character romance Merrill and so haven't seen it. I'll have to rectify that oversight.

Yeah it's my favorite. Aggressive Hawke is the best.

Hmmm.... is there a problem with Merrill's romance-banter in legacy? Just about to start legacy with my FemHawke who romanced Merrill and she has now moved into the house. Should one wait a bit before playing?

Got a fun little screen at the hanged man. Just changed to a new party and Fenris ended up a little too close to Merrill for my taste. Good thing my FemHawke has her back to them. She had just left Fenris for Merrill 15 min earlier so the timing was pretty good. Nothing like a nice triangle-drama, lol.

I cant be sure but I think aggressive Hawke gets an extra line out of Merrill:
"You are really not afraid are you?"

So yes.... now aggressive Hawke is my fave way to romance Merrill!

If you mean Merrill's "If you're not afraid, then neither am I" line, everybody gets that.

I've found that the romance banter doesn't always trigger in the DLC for some reason (I've played it 5 times all post-romance).

I've only gotten banter with the siblings and Anders.

For example, I've recently played Legacy in Act 3 and the Merrill/Anders banter never triggered no matter how many times I ran over that one trigger spot in the prison.  However, when I did the DLC in Act 2 earlier with the same Hawke, it triggered O_o

I'm pretty sure that's specific to the rival romance.

My aggressive Hawke was a love em and leave em type. Merrill said she loved her and Hawke responded "Are you still here?"

Just tested that romance scene again.

The line : You are really not afraid are you?
Only triggered on my aggressive Hawke-rival romance.
Not my sarcastic Hawke-rival romance, sarcastic Hawke-friend romance, diplomatic friend romance.

You do get that line with a Sarcastic Rival Hawke as long as you pick the Diplomatic option after she asks 'What does this mean?' (I just checked).

Picking the 'Diplomatic' option there always results in an extra line for Merrill..."You're really not afraid?" for rival!Hawke and "If you hadn't come to Sundermount that day, I couldn't imagine where I'd be now" for friend!Hawke.

The Humorous 'Diamond' reply doesn't, for some reason...

Interesting....

Time to watch that scene again... which makes this around 7 times now.
