hey guys just thought I'd pop in to ask Merrill fans what they think is going on in one of the Sebastian/Merrill dialogues that's confused me

Merrill tells Sebastian that The Creators will return when the elves have proven themselves... but we know the story of Fen'harel's double cross trapping the Forgotten Ones and The Creators in separate areas. Merrill even tells the story when you give her the ring in act 3. If The Creators could free themselves from that you'd think they would do so... why does Merrill say that?

So far my only theory is the she's BSing Sebastian knowing he's only interested in how he can link things back to the Chantry/Maker anyhow so why not troll him like Australians earnestly telling people we ride kangaroos to school as kids, also watch out for the Drop Bears, they're nasty this time of year.

I think it has something to do with defying Fen'Harel's general nastiness to the extent that his trap is undone. Or something like that. I don't think Merrill's the type to just make up this stuff, considering how seriously she takes it.

Might be a lore mix-up with the writers. Or maybe that was Fen'harel's whole idea in the first place?
Merrill is really dedicated to her people and their history/lore, I highly doubt that she would get it incorrect.

She wouldn't troll him because she utterly respects his free choise of faith.

I'm not sure how it all works, religion is tricky like that y'know. Perhaps if they restore the eluvian, gain Eternal Life and make all elves magic a funny button will release and the creators will all be freed.

I just relistened to all the Merrill/Sebastian banters. Merrill points out that the Chant is less sensible and cohesive than the elven pantheon legends (which I love unreasonably). The elven pantheon just wander around doing cool stuff, whereas I don't know what the Maker is thinking most of the time. The one thing that the Chant is clear on that the elven legends are not, however, is what can be done to 'fix' this whole mess.  I think Merrill may be sort of trying to find commonalities through which to try to understand this strange human religion, but I also think she's trying to use her newfound understanding of the Maker to make sense of her own gods' disappearance. That's sort of what my Dalish Warden ended up doing, with limited results.

Here's the thing... the elves know the story of why their gods went away, but nothing more... not what would make them come back, beyond the Dread Wolf deciding to release them. It may be that Merrill thinks that the secret of how to get the gods back, the other half of the story is hidden away somewhere in the lost knowledge of the elves. There is so much they don't know, and among things they don't know is how to get their gods back.

I personally think there's a relationship between the whole "elves and humans produce only human offspring" thing, and the loss of the elven gods. What the relationship is, I can't say, though I'm intrigued by a lost elven power manifesting in a half-elf (even though there's really no such thing as a half elf).

At any rate, for elves, regaining their lost knowledge is the most important pursuit, I can see how they would correlate that with their gods' return.

i disagree, i rather find her shocked, in a good or in a bad way it depends by everyone's point of view, for example, i prefer heterosexual romance with merrill (rivalmance, i should say) , and i appreciated both expression and concept of this drawing
