I think maybe Merrill might do a semi-Morrigan. She may try to leave Hawke for fear of him getting hurt and Hawke can track her down, and a Hawke that romanced her can go with her.

Go with her where though?  Merrill doesn't have a special place to hide away from her 'evil' mother like Morrigan does.

XD

Right now, I just want DLC where Merrill has more to say and a larger role.   This current DLC is all about Orlais/Qunari and stuff so she won't :(

I want to see her character developed beyond DA2....that game kind of set a stage but dropped her whole character arc at the end (IMO).  I mostly want to know what she will do afterwards.

What a horrid time to see this and get a sudden boost of energy, but here, here! Although I have no idea what Bioware has planned for DAIII as per the returns of previous iterations' companions, I would like to see a proper epilogue for my Hawke and Merrill, other than Varric's assurance that they stayed together forever as they rode off into the sunset.... or that massive fireball the Mage Armies made as they joined the fray.

Now I have an image of Merrill just clinging to Hawke as they stride through some random city.
Hawke: "Merrill? Is it necessary to hug me as we walk?":pinched:
Merrill: "Yep."
Hawke: "You do realize this doesn't hide us very well?":pinched:
Merrill: "Weren't you the one who said 'Who cares what others think?'":innocent:

DA3 Merrill will be all like:

New PC: Who are you?
Merrill: I'm Merrill, I knew the Champion of Kirkwall once!
New PC: Is that so?
Merrill: Yes, now enjoy my cameo!
New PC: Okay...
Merrill: I once tried to rebuild an eluvian from scratch!
New PC: Really? But you never got it working...
Merrill: Well, I'm not as cool or as smart and attractive as Morrigan...and she did the same things I couldn't do due to her plot importance.
Morrigan (who will probably be a squad member): Indeed.
New PC: Are you even relevant anymore, Merrill?
Merrill: No....

Well, yeah...I fully expect all my Wardens to end up happy with Leliana and all my Hawkes to end up happy with Merrill.

This.

Also, it's worth noting that Hawke has already disappeared, and Merrill is already with him/her. So on the one hand, awwww twu wuv. On the other hand, this means that Merrill will likely not have a large role in DA3, unless Hawke is the PC.

Personally, I think we'll be playing as a Seeker in DA3.

We don't know that Merrill disappeared with Hawke.   Merrill was with Hawke when s/he separated with the rest of the group, according to Varric ( I've only done the mage ending, I don't know what happens in that other, crap ending) but we don't know for sure if Merrill was with Hawke when s/he disappeared for good.

Fair point, though I still think it's worth remembering. I think it makes sense, though, that she'd stay with Hawke. Sebastian's the only romance (if you can call his that) who has a real reason to not stay with Hawke.

And don't bother with the templar ending. I did it to see what happens (and also because an apostate blood mage siding with the templars and becoming Viscount is hilarious to me), and the epilogue makes zero sense.

Yeah, but if some magical special super powered force wants to snatch up Hawke I fear the LI will just be left behind.  Just like in KotOR 2 XD    I would 'like' for Merrill to follow, but I doubt it as it would be easier to write her as 'romnace neutral' and being left behind.

Eh, I think it depends on how focused the story is on Hawke, assuming s/he isn't the PC. If a large part of the game is finding/working with Hawke, then you're probably right. But if, like I hope, Hawke isn't a huge focus, I see no reason why they wouldn't throw the LI in beside him/her.

I'd think if they want the LI to have some cameo thing going on independent of romance that the LI will remain behind. I keep bringing up Leliana but....it's like Leliana in DA2. DA2 didn't focus on my Warden but Leliana and her were separated, apparently.

That makes sense, but Leliana had a reason to be part of the story in DA2, to the extent she was. It fit her character that she'd a, be on the move with or without the Warden, and b, be involved in the mage-templar conflict. Merrill has no impetus to separate from Hawke, really, unless Hawke chooses to leave her behind, which I suppose is possible. She explicitly states she doesn't want to be involved in the war with the templars. None of the LIs do, save Anders.

So, I'm just spit-balling here, but would you believe Hawke left Merrill behind if it was certain that Templars/Mages would try to hunt him/her down to kill him? I would. My Hawke would never willingly put her in danger he could avoid. Umm, Kirkwall aside. Doesn't count.

Or maybe Hawke left Merrill behind to go find Flemeth or something to see about ending the war? Would you willingly put Merrill anywhere near Flemeth?

What if Flemeth captures Merrill and threatens to take over her body unless you help?

SO MANY IDEAS =(

Err... Seems to me that if Hawke, Merrill and two friends can take on every templar and abomination in Kirkwall, plus a Harvester and Meredith with her Lyriumsaber (affectionately), they can take care of whatever Chantry forces are spared from fighting the thousands of mages. Aren't the Seekers looking for Hawke so they can *help* them end the war, in any case? Kind of explains why Varric's injuries amounted to a book to the face for smartassery, and he was then left to stroll away, potentially right back to Hawke.

And why would Flemeth capture Merrill and threaten to possess her? She seems to want to possess only daughters that she raises... And Merrill is a tad different than Morrigan Posted Image

Then there's how Flemeth never kills anything but Darkspawn, unless you walk up to her and say, "Look. I'ma kill you." And charge. Really, Flemeth's been pretty damn nice recently, given her reputation of leaving people, "In little bits, or hanging from the trees."

Well the seekers/templars/mages are already after everyone connected to Hawke so they'd go after Merrill anyway. At least if she's with Hawke, she/he can protect Merrill.

Have you ever just had Hawke alone in a party? He/She gets owned pretty quickly. At least, in my games they do.

The Seekers are a wholly different arm of the Chantry, and even the templars fear when they come. Just becuase of that fact alone i'd say that Hawke may have a little more trouble that we thought.

Flemeth is too damn mysterious for me to say anything positive about her. Besides, do we really want to take that chance? Because one moment, it's all "I like you", then ZAP! Frog time.

True, but of course, if they do capture you, Merrill's in deep trouble. Like Sacrifice/Tranquility trouble. :(

The Templars couldn't catch a cold in the middle of a blizzard, I'd like to see them try and track Merril and/or Hawke down and subdue them. It'd be comical.

Actually, given how Hawke & Merrill can slash their wrists and bring down a fiery/nature-y hellstorm on some baddies right in front of Templars, you have a point here...

I'd bet every last dime I owned that if Hawke washed the blood smear off his nose & Merrill started wearing a cute little hat with a flower on it, they'd be unrecognizable to Templar hunters Posted Image

Who's to say that Hawke vanished through an Eluvian? Sure it's the most likely way, but we don't know. Perhaps they just went to some other place far away from Thedas. Maybe Merrill leaves because she does still want to work on the Eluvian, and she ends up finding one that's fully functioning. Hell, maybe Morrigan watches her from across her side and tosses a book at Merrill's face that will help her get it to work.

Hawke then comes in all pissed that Merrill's working on the Eluvian again, but she says that it's a different Eluvian. Loopholes ftw. Anyway, she gets it to work, and they go through the Eluvian to where Morrigan and the Warden (mine at least) are.

Alright, I'll thank you muchly for planting the image of Merrill with a pair of automatics in the middle of a bunch of Templars in my mind! Posted Image

And I can see how a graceful scene with her whipping her staff over/under/around Hawke, maybe while using one of her AoE Blood Magic moves, while he either skewered anything in range, fired away with his staff or put some arrows in some meat could be damned nice.

PS: Hawke&Co's response to being hunted by Templars? Foolproof anti-Templar stealth technology.

I've wondered if Flemeth even needs a daughter right now given her magical resurrection.  I'm not sure how all that works.  That part always seemed a bit odd to me...I'd imagine Flemeth's soul or whatever that was in the amulet would need a new host to possess (the only option would have been Merrill or it could have been a mage, female Hawke I suppose).  However, she just comes back in her old body.  Regardless, I think she would definitely want to body-snatch Morrigan as she raised her and tailored her to her own "needs" whatever they may be.

As I understand it, and what she and Morrigan have said, Flemmeth's body ages just like any other human body, so when it gets to the point where the body becomes frail and weak, she would discard it and inhabit the daughters body that she raised. In using her own daughters, she ensures that the likely candidate has high magical ability, which would ensure she didn't pop into a body that was unable to weild any magic. That's my theory.

I'm wondering if she chooses her "daughter" above kidnapping some other mageling for, among other reasons, knowing the schools of magic she herself prefers? I can't see her using a lot of the Elvhen magic that Merrill does ;)

At least, I think of Merrill mainly using moves that involve lightning, stone (nature), and blood magic... Don't know if I'm alone there? =P
