You know what I found odd that supports in my mind my theory of Marethari becoming possessed around the time Merrill asks Hawke to accompany her up Sundermount?

The cave's barrier was gone and nothing was blocking it.

In Act 1 there's the same type of barrier around the cave that Merrill takes down with her blood magic, but Merrill doesn't take that one down.

In Act 2 the cave is blocked from being entered by a huge cart.

In Act 3, if you go up Sundermount prior to beginning the quest, there's nothing blocking one from entering the cave.

But this is just what supports my theory and to others may just be me grasping at straws I guess.

She says that Audacity hasn't been responding back to her, and if one doesn't talk to Marethari she still becomes possessed.

I never understood how Audacity could respond to Merrill if it was sundered from the Fade.

Though I tend to agree that Marethari had been possessed for some time.  I just don't see her hurrying up the mountain to beat Hawke/Merrill, speaking with Audacity in order to learn its plan, and then deciding right then and there to allow it to possess her.  If this were the case, I'm not sure why she wouldn't just wait for Merrill and Hawke and then tell them the demon's plans.

I'd guess it was sometime between Act 2/3.  I find it curious Marethari even talked to the demon at all.

The Merrill short story says that they were subject to Audacity whispering in their dreams, but they could never remember what he said. Given that mages are able to remember anything that happens in the Fade, I think it wasn't happening in the Fade but I guess it's more along the lines of Audacity establishing a very weak telepathic connection with them that only got stronger the closer they were to it.

My theory is that the keeper starts fighting the Demon a little bit after Act 2 and decides to take it inside her before Act 3 starts, this in fact supprots your theory since nothing is blocking the cave anymore, which would be a result of the Keeper forgetting to seal it after just taking a demon into her and keeping it at bay, which is really hard to do.

Right, and who knows...the constant whispering could have drove Maretheri kind of mad.

I would figure Merrill would be too far away, though.  Perhaps it was very weak but she still could kind of sense Audacity.

That's what I'm thinking too.

Merrill only tried talking with Audacity from her house because she ran out of ideas from all her sources of lore and knowledge, so I guess she could still feel that very weak telepathic link between her and him.

I guess had Audacity responded, she would've tried really hard to make sure she heard what he was saying accurately. Unless it turned out to be something like "Come to me and I'll tell you.", which just screams suspicious demon wanting to escape.

....I wonder if that's how Marethari was drawn to Audacity. Perhaps she started questioning Audacity from the camp and then Audacity used that line on her.

I've discovered that thinking about Merrill and her cuteness helps with the tension associated with extra-innings.

Didn't bioware already have a story about Merrills first encounter with the demon.

Here it is.

Cardinals game last night? My neighbor is a big fan of them and told me he was going crazy during the game.

Yep. I could think about kittens or butterflies, but they can't throw fireballs at Tony La Russa.

Why do you think Merrill was talking to Audacity in her home at the Alienage? Wasn't the point of the expedition to Sundermount that she wanted to converse with Audacity again because the Arulin'Holm wasn't able to complete the Eluvian?

That's already been posted, and the conclusion was that she is far more like ME1 Liara that ME2 Tali.:D

BTW, how dare you compare us to Tali-mancers! I mean, have you seen how they dress?! My God, talk about 2010's.
Also, we are way better at grammer than they are. Not to mention better looking. :P

She mentions trying to contact it and says it wasn't responding.

It's an inside joke between one of my friends and I. We always say that Merrill-mancers are better in everyway. Sorry if it offended, it was meant purely in humor. I even used smiley faces!

No, I meant I wasn't comparing Tali and Merrill. I won't explain the image because I'm pretty sure you get it and it would feel as horrible as explaining a joke.

Ah well. Let's not learn from our mistakes and post another Terrill pic.

Talimancery exist because Liz Sroka exist. Merrilovery exist because Eve Myles exist. Nothing more comparable never didnt exist. Theyre both cute more than all candy in whole universe, but on different ways.
