This man speaks truth. If you doubt him, imagine Merrill's voice coming out of Oghren.

That's what I'm thinking too.
Merrill only tried talking with Audacity from her house because she ran out of ideas from all her sources of lore and knowledge, so I guess she could still feel that very weak telepathic link between her and him.
I guess had Audacity responded, she would've tried really hard to make sure she heard what he was saying accurately. Unless it turned out to be something like "Come to me and I'll tell you.", which just screams suspicious demon wanting to escape.
....I wonder if that's how Marethari was drawn to Audacity. Perhaps she started questioning Audacity from the camp and then Audacity used that line on her.
Why do you think Merrill was talking to Audacity in her home at the Alienage? Wasn't the point of the expedition to Sundermount that she wanted to converse with Audacity again because the Arulin'Holm wasn't able to complete the Eluvian?
She said he hadn't been responding when she tried talking to him. My assumption is that she started talking to him at that point, because she had never before relied on him.

I may be wrong, but I seem to recall an orlesian servant in MotA that sounded suspiciously like Eve Myles putting on a french accent.soccerchick wrote...

I really want to read it now. It's like someone told me not to shove my fork in the toaster to pry out the toast. Heavy risk...
No, seriously, I do. Is that odd?

I don't think that was her, and even if it was, it wasn't "Merrill" putting one on. I want to see the epic adorableness failure that would happen.

That makes sense, since there doesn't seem to be any indication that Merrill has been communicating with Audacity during her stay at the Alienage or prior to that moment. She's pretty up front with Hawke about the whole thing, even addressing that she needs Hawke (Lethallin) to strike her down if she becomes possessed.

Fixed. Please, like anyone on this thread isn't a Merrill-mancer.

If it is odd, I don't think I want to be normal.

In all honesty, what writing talent I have I don't think would be up to this project. I might try a rough draft of it, but I don't write adorkable very well.

Merrill has plenty of spine and it shows up independent of the romance and Hawke.
Never said it didn't.
Just that the romance scene where she threw Hawke out brought my attention to it.
