That doesn't make sense, Emissaries can only be Hurlock or Genlock. So unless we go NEW ART DIRECTION! my mind has to conclude that it's a Shriek Emissary. LOLLLL
No, they are only more common due to a larger supply of dwarves and humans than elves.

As a matter of fact, I'd be more bothered by Genlock emissaries than Sharlock emissaries, as Dwarves cannot cast magic and are more resistant to it.Herr Uhl wrote...

I think there was a magic using Genlock at Ishal ground floor. Guess the taint bypasses dwarf antimagic.

If these truly are new Shriek Emissaries, than that's stupid because we haven't seen them before and they look radically different.
Unless of course they're just streamlining the Darkspawn into Ogre, Hurlock and Emissary. HURRRR BIOWARE

No your not getting it, and that doesn't matter, if in the first game we had Genlock Emmiraries, then we have Genlock Emmisaries. Besides I thought Graider said something to the effect of them drawing power from the taint.

Can´t see why there can´t be Shriek Emissaries just because none of the Shrieks we´ve met so far was one.

So you don't want the lore to progress?
It's not a retcon. We've never been told that there are no elven emissaries.
On topic: Awesome gif is awsome

So your logic is - "We didn't see it in the first game, thus it cannot exist, despite absolutely nothing in the lore stating such was an impossibility." ? Great logic. I assume no female Qunari existed because we didn't see them either. In fact, I guess talking Darkspawn couldn't exist either and putting them in Awakening was also a massive retcon, because they weren't in Origins!!!!!!!!
But yes, Darkspawn draw their magic power from the taint - it is similar in style to blood magic, I guess, though of a very different substance. Besides, its not like Genlocks *are* dwarves. They are simply born from dwarven broodmothers.
Which makes me wonder, can a half-dwarf (human/dwarf) be a mage? But that would be going too off topic.

Actually, I hope they are Elven, because if they're a retconned Hurlock Emissary...
We can always blame Varrick´s (lack of) narrative sense, at least until DA3.

Anyway, how do you think the Shrieks have been redesigned for DAII? I thought they looked way too different from other darkspawn in DAO, I think I didn't even recognize them as DS the first time I saw one.

I think that the fact that we have not seen sharlok emissary do not dismiss their existence. We also have not seen any broodmother byt the dwarven and human (in Awakening) it does not matter that elven and qunari ones do not exist.NKKKK wrote...

In fact sherlok emissary should be a given thing as elves more in tune withe magic than humans and dwarves(stated even in the PC stats). So it is more than logical that elven twisted reflection-sharlok will have same trait.

Well I don't think they retconned them. They've shown us a new Elven Emissary because it's new. What's the point in annanouncing Genlock or Hurlock emisary (well apart from their new look).

Great analogy, considering Qunari females' existence was mentioned in the lore at least. HURRRRR
Although they might as well not exist, since we may never see them

I suppose there isn't really any telling whether or not her character will differ greatly from whatever there was in Origins, but at this current point, I only have one concern in that regard;
I really, really, reeeeeeaaallllly would prefer she not be a Tali 2.0. As much as I do like Tali's character --my issues with her romance content aside-- I find it almost impossible to view her as a woman. She never seems to graduate from the "girl" status, in my eyes.
If a character's appeal --expecially a female character-- is solely based on a level of "cuteness", I consider that as vanilla as it comes --if I'm using the term vanilla correctly-- and therefor; far less interesting.
I certainly haven't written off Merrill's character as a Tali 2.0, but it's a direction I really hope Bioware don't take.

My interest was definitely piqued when Merrill was revealed. Earlier on, I was hoping for a female Dalish companion. I've only really played through the Dalish origin story a couple of times, although now I'm thinking I need to go and do it again.

Unless they take Merrill about 180 degrees in terms of character, I don't see this happening. Sure, she does look pretty cute--*looks at the screenshot again*--okay, make that really cute, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. She was pretty stern in Origins, not really a potential Tali in my opinion. Unless, that is, they completely rewrite her character.
Hopefully that will not be the case.

I'm quite sure Merrill will be a mature person, no matter how *cute* she is, Tali was mature as well in ME2, while I still thought of her as a very young adult at the beginning of ME2, the events afterwards proved how much she's grown, the situation with her father, her decision to make the right thing for the Migrant Fleet... I don't even think it's fair to compare Merrill to Tali.... because we know absolutely nothing about Merrill's personality in DA2 so far.
