Merrill's romance initiates with her nomming Hawke's face.
So, not all that similiar, really.

You know who Merrill is a lot like? Merrill. Funny, that.

It seems people find them similar since they apparently fit into the 'cute innocent viginal' trope...or something.
But they're really not that much alike and I always thought Merrlll had more in common with Liara (both ME1 and ME2--cuz ME2 showed the obsessive side to Liara which Merrill also has, as we know).

Never really got the urge to nom on Tali. And not because it'd be like trying to bite into a tin of anchovies, either.

It's far from recycled....really.
There's a few similarities.
Also, puppies.

Well, they're hardly identical, but as someone who's done both romances multiple times, they seemed awfully alike to me. The tendency to start awkwardly babbling, the whole "shy nerdy non-human virgin" thing (although yes, that does also apply to Liara), being overly devoted to the welfare of their people - these are all things Tali and Merrill have in common. They even have the same "Is it hot in here?" line when Hawke/Shepard starts flirting with them - I didn't notice it before, but last month I saw both scenes within about a week of each other, and it was uncanny.
Maybe, but Shepard doesn't ask Tali to move into her cabin, and I don't know if the other members of the Normandy crew would be scandalized by the romance. I don't even know if Tali _likes flowers_.
Why are we talking about Tali in the Merrill thread again?

Tali likes flowers; on the Alerei, she mentions how she's jealous of how Shepard can touch them with bare fingers and inhale their fragrance without air filters while she can't.ydaraishy wrote...

That doesn't mean that's the case.

Yes. To the point that I'm using a mod that gives her the Creation treesoccerchick wrote...

I really don't see why not. I don't even think there's any real logic behind that other than balancing issues. Why wouldn't a dalish mage know how to heal?

Yeah, it was a pain going through all those tough MotA fights with no healing available. I recommend playing as a Reaver; you have that vampire power (forget what it's called) that allows you to drain health from your enemies.soccerchick wrote...

She's a blood mage, with the stabbity stabbity all the time. I don't think it fits, but I don't think it's an outrage for her to have it.

I do the same.
There's a reference in DA:O to Merrill knowing the Keeper's healing magics so...why not?

Maybe it stops working after the bloodmagery?
Well, no, that doesn't work; there's the option to fix Connor in DAO with blood magic from Jowan...

Well healing is indeed not possible on the person using blood magic themselves, but a blood mage can still heal others.

From what I understand, blood magic is simply using the power of blood to fuel spells instead of 'mana' or a Fade connection.
So, the spells should be the same...just using a different source to power them. I'm not sure why Merrill couldn't use blood magic to heal others....she just can't heal herself while in 'blood magic mode' but that's more like a game balancing isssue (you could do it in Origins).

Good point. I never played a bloodmage/did much with the bloodmage spec in Origins.

You could? Why do I remember constantly switching out of blood magic to heal myself then? Don't tell me I did that for nothing!

It was way OP b/c you could tote around a crap ton of healing potions (with a pretty short cooldown) so you could heal yourself while in BM mode...unlimited spell casting potential.
I guess you could have a bunch of lyrium potions, but they were a lot more rare than health potions and I don't think you had access to unlimited amounts of lyrium like you did with elfroot (from the merchant in the Dalish camp) so you could make infinite amounts of health potions.

Actually, now that I read the Wiki, it says healing is reduced 90% but not eliminated...so you could still heal but it wasn't efficient.
I still did it, though.

Yeah, I just read it too since I distinctly recalled that it was horrendously inefficient. A 90% reduction really made it a huge waste of potion or spell.
But indeed, the point that you CAN heal yourself with the mode active would indeed be true.
