It's not the time from meeting her which I'm referring to, but the time from the romance starting.

The jump from being friends with occasional flirting to moving in together is a bit abrupt for my taste.

2-3 years seems plenty natural for me. While Hawke makes the offer immediately after they have sex, Merrill doesn't really accept it until a while before Act 3 rolls around.

She meets Hawke in act I then three years later in act II they get it on. Unfortunately for me, Merrill and Hawke ended up having sex right after Hawke's mother was murdered. It ruined the somber mood and seemed rather inappropriate.

I have no problems with the pacing. I imagine that Hawke and Merrill were very close friends throughout those three years that both harbored feelings for the other and then one day it just sort of happened. Since they were super close (bestest friends and all) it just felt natural.

As for my head canon, w/ regards to her relationship w/ Merrill, I'll just say that blood magic makes things a little bit freakier. Yeah.

Oh definitley.

I pretend that the Fell Grimoire Hawke recovered had some 'fun' spells.

That's why I put off that questline as long as possible.

Also, Merrill will comfort you after your mother dies instead of Aveline (I think?)

Yep, Aveline only if you don't have a romance.

Ah, well that's something to do during my next playthrough. The Fell Grimoire is priority alpha in my next run. I didn't get it b/c I took the tome's deal. I really want that in order to summon forth a Desire Demon. Shall I go on?

Well, it's like when you take Isabela into Feynriel's dream. When the desire tempts Isabela w/ a ship and sex, it made me wonder about the latter. Caress says that she would be waiting under the sheets in the bed inside the captain's quarters. It made me wonder if Caress would take on the form of a man, woman or maintain her current form and have wild succubus sex w/ Isabela. I digress.

Anyways, there are so many possibilities are to be had w/ a desire demon. A player's head canon can determine if w/in the time between act II and ac III, if the player has the Fell Grimoire (Damn!), would Hawke and Merrill summon a desire demon to spice up their sex life?

So, Hawke, Merrill and Desire Demon. Discuss.

Tobias Hawke likes having his neck scratched in a sensual manner.

I imagine the desire demon would get him into roleplaying. Merrill's been saving up some ideas that Isabela gave her for just such an occasion.

The desire demon can take any damn form Hawke wants. The possibilities are endless! Alas, I don't have the Fell Grimoire so no succubus sex for Hawke or Merrill in my game. Damn! I'd like to creep out Isabela by having the desire demon take on the form of Isabela. Somehow, I don't think that would freak her out, though.

I don't know if you actually have to have sex with the desire demon to benefit. It may be able to provide the pair with some pro-tips and/or spells.  Perhaps magical artifacts that enhance the experience?

I'm hardly an expert on desire demonology, though.

The Desire Demon has horns!

That gives "Sitting on her face" a whole new meaning.
Though i suppose the horns are part of the scalp rather than the face? :/

But having sex w/ the desire demon is the benefit.

I'd imagine Merrill would get too possessive of Hawke if the desire demon tried to ...interfere too much. But yes, artefacts... desire demon horn looks practical... ahem.

Unless the desire demon locks Merrill in the armoire and it assumes Merrill's form.

Would Merrill get possessive if the demon assumed her form? I mean, of all the other possible forms Hawke could wish on the desire demon, she picks Merrill...that has to mean something.

Hawke would have twin Merrills.

Merrill and her evil twin (or good twin...depends on who you ask, I suppose XD)

I understand what you mean. Unless one assumes that Hawke and Merrill kept flirting and building a friendship with each another between the three year gap of Act I and Act II, it seems rather abrupt to go from "I care about you" to "let's move in together." The pacing is really off in the context of the actual story that's provided, and I wish the developers handled it differently.

Good, good...then I'll have something to read XD

Also, regarding the romance timing, the first time I watched the love scene with Hawke and Merrill I immediately thought "OMG, U-Haul lesbians!"

Yeah, methinks interracial is a sore point, for no particular reason I can find. Probably because everybody's rampantly racist towards each other. Even the dwarf-human relations smack of it, though they're overshadowed by elves VS every other race ever.

Interracial couplings are problematic for dwarves and elves because they're kinda dying off.

Humans seem to think elves are good for a roll in the hay but not much else.

Timing is also a problem with the rivalry romance. It is WAY too easy to get Merrill to jump you IMMEDIATELY after taking the Keeper's advice and withholding the Elven carving tool. I wait until Act 3 before doing her "Questioning Beliefs" so at least I can head canon Hawke spending three years convincing her he actually cares and wasn't just trying to be mean.

My canon Hawke is male, but while role playing a female mage rivalry with Merrill (character #7) , I much preferred their conversation to the one the male warrior Hawke had. Mostly because Merrill's admissions justified the rivarly path I took initially.

Well, I'd like to think that between act II and act III they talked about moving in a bit more and eventually Merrill started to move her things in.

Please do so. Don't forget to include thorough and graphic discriptions in the fanfic.[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie] You'll do us proud, won't you?

I hope they fix all that in DA3. I've never rivalmanced Merrill and you should probably avoid telling people that you've done so. I know someone on here who doesn't like people who have rivalmanced Merrill.

Yeah. It is possible to rivalry with the intent of being a total ass, which usually results in Hawke killing her in the Gallows I understand. Never played that style of Hawke myself; I've never had the heart to play a totally evil character through an entire game in any RPG. Being mean to her was never my intention.

The ending justifies my decisions as far as I am concerned. She loves Hawke, she's convinced to stop obsessing over an ancient artifact and start helping the alienage, and I think its hot having a LI who knows how to tell you go to hell when she's mad.
