A blood mage that is cute as a kitten? Woah, now that's something I'd like to see. Though I don't know, I mean isn't it painful to be a blood mage? You have to cut yourself right? Or someone else... Hehe, gonna be fun if she's a companion and even more fun if she's a romance!

Hmmm I think my Hawke will donate blood for Merrill, I mean it's gonna be hard knowing she has to cut herself to cast spells right, right?

She looks adorable! The possible blood mage thing makes her seem even more interesting, because (apart from Jowan) blood mages tend to be portrayed as scary Morrigan-types. From Merill's picture, she looks quite cheerful and friendly. Didn't really get that feel from her in Origins, but then we only saw her for about ten minutes.

Me no like blood magic. Me no like blood magic at all.

It's especially jarring to see a Dalish elf use it, considering that the Magister Lords used blood magic to destroy Arlathan. This is disconcerting.

What is so off putting about Blood Magic anyway? apart from the fact that mages are already powerful beings in Thedas and Blood Magic makes them a lot stronger...none, if you backtrack a few pages you'll find we were talking about an interesting theory that actually the elves taught the tevinters BM and they just pushed the limits.

She seems to be right above Lady Hawke's health bar.
If that's her, bare feet? DAW. Or tacky white shoes.
I'm in love with the silly bare footed elves thing.

this just occurred to me..........

we know that one of the major points in DA2 is the conflict between Mages and Templars/Chantry......

as Hawke, this relates to you because you can either be an apostate mage yourself, or your sister is an apostate mage. Plus, your father was an apostate, and your family has a strong mage bloodline, it seems.

However, wouldn't it be cool if the "focal point" of this whole conflict for Hawke was not himself or his sister..............but his LI?

We know that Merrill is a mage ( perhaps a blood mage, too ). She's also a Dalish elf. That's like, triple the social taboos...........

If she can be Hawke's LI, maybe she can become Hawke's "connection" to the whole Mage vs. Templar conflict...............

Can't be much wrong with the consumption of life to create magic, so long as you're not consuming entire lives. Right?

<3Merrill and Carver together <3

All in Love

I am genuinely curious about this. More than PC romances, I have always been fascinated by the prospect of playing matchmaker between companions. I wonder if that possibility exists in DA2.

Strange how I'd be more protective of Merrill than my little brother. I wouldn't mind them settling down, but worry about human/elf relations.

She's Dalish. In the end, she might decide it's better to be with another elf. I wouldn't blame her, but poor Carver's heart might be broken.

My first playthrough is going to be a blood mage so we could do some blood magic together :) I hope she gonna be fine using all that blood magic and summoning demons. If not then I will protect her =]

Okay I'm serious people, look at this pic from the IGN preview...in the other screenshots Merrill doesn't appear but I'm almost sure she's the one talking to Fem Hawke:

-snip-

She's confirming that she's used blood magic!!!!! ** if ** Merrill is the one really talking then that's confirms she has blood magic like PCGamer said, also it seems like she summoned a demon (spirit) to help in the fight... who bets it's a desire demon? :wizard:

She summoned a Merrill fan and they happily disemboweled whatever was trying to hurt her. They just looked like a demon to LadyHawke.

How they end up is up to them. I just want the chance to tease/torment/rag them silly.

Though honestly, I wonder if in 10 years, Hawke does something that improves things at least somewhat. With the chantry allegedly in tatters, maybe he/she will be able to petition for a more egalitarian society. One where Dalish and Human can live together...Or not.

EDIT: Makes it more personal if your sister in law was dalish.

All of our info about the Fade and demons has been from the Circle/Chantry perspective, maybe Dalish mages have a different relationship with these forces of nature.

We have first hand experience with the fade and demons. They aren't nice.

I received several warnings in the Dalish camp about the spirits that infest the Brecilian Forest. I think they recognize the danger that demons pose.

That sounds very appealing. I wonder if they'd do the same with Bethany and someone? Fenris and city elves, maybe?

That's like having a first hand experience with fire burning down your village and not knowing it's also great for killing bacteria in food.

Heh, Hawke has a conversation mentioning blood magic in a forest and people are assuming it's Merrill:p because she's a mage and.... uhhhhh Hawke is standing in a forest..... yeah ;)

I don't really see Merrill as a bloodmagic user.

I hope that is the case and that things work differently within the Dalish society of things...I also suspect that it may not have been Hawke that questioned her about the blood magic...there is a good chance that Aveline( widowed wife of Templar) may have been the one to question or ask what in the hell was going on? This is going to make for some VERY interesting story telling...

If I were given just half a chance, I'd hook up everyone in the free marches to each other and be the universal Godmother. That would be how i'd become champion of Kirkwall. That and dancing. Not by exploding some Qunari guy.

They did mention in that story diary that you get a sense of family. I think it is very big sisterly like to torment your sis or bro about dating.

Eh?  Do you not like swords because they were used to destroy Arlathan and the Dales, too?

I played several blood mages, all elves.  My modded Dalish mage was a blood mage.  I figure they have a more open-minded approach to magic and also they might not have steady access to lyrium, especially once the Chantry got a stranglehold on the supply.

Mind control, Or someone using you're body as a puppet mwith your bloodstream as the strings isn't offputting?

I don't have a problem with it, but I can see how the possibility of that would be terrifying
