Bioware confirmed, I believe, that elves who live away from humans for a long time begin to live longer.Abispa wrote...
Zathrian was a mage and he was not the only DA character to use magic to extend his life. Supposedly there was a time when ALL Elves were mages, so it isn't hard to believe that at least some my have used their magic to supernaturally extend their lives. Unless Bioware gives us concrete information to the contrary, I'm going to take the Dalish belief that Elves were once capable of living centuries unaided with the same grain of salt that I take conservative Christians who say that man originally lived centuries in the Old Testament.

Does anyone know what dialogue is between Merrill and Hawke (fem or either) if Merrill is kidnapped in Act 3 and rescued and romanced?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the dialogue doesn't change whether you have romanced the Companion or not... *rubs chin*

She was serious, intelligent, a good companion. What happened to the poor girl? Did using Blood Magic sap her cunning and guile? Is the mirror to blame for the 180 personality change? I liked Merrill in DA2 but now that I saw her in DA:O I feel... cheated! Origin's Merrill was a woman to rival Hawke I think. I liked the rambling ditz but I would have really liked the much more confident, wise Merrill.

You can change your appearance to be an Elf in the Computer version?!? *grumble grumble grumble*

You see her in human lands in 2, in Origins she is among her own kind. When she's in her clan in 2 she acts just as she did in Origins.Malanu wrote...
So I am back in DA:O and I am playing a Dailish warrior. I got to have Merrill in my party and she was different...

I don't really remember Merrill being "wise" and "confident" in DAO. I don't remember much of anything about her, aside from expressing concern over how pale the Warden looked and looking sad when the Warden left.
Yeah...she was just kinda...there.
Plus, she was among her people and really only interacted with a couple of them.

Is it just me, or was the resolution to her personal quest unnecessarily harsh?
It was brutal!
But it was interesting and all that...I wish there was more interaction with her afterwards.

Anyway, question for you folks, if you're still around the forums: The Dalish Elf Origin chapter of mine is going to be coming up soon in my Xanthos Aeducan fanfic where he leads the Wardens. While I enjoy Merrill's Merrilliness, I confess that I do not know how to make her appropriately Merrilly. You know, babbling and all. And it's due in part to having not played DAII for a long while.
Any tips?

Some other observations about Merrill
She's self conscious, and she babbles out of embarrassment. Usually digging herself in deeper
She thinks differently from most people, in particular she's not really interested in things most people see as important. For example, when she goes to the Viscount's palace she doesn't really notice that it's an impressive building showing off the power of it's owner, but that there might be sparrows in the rafters.
This is perhaps why she has a tendency to miss the intent of what other people say. If you're not thinking on the same lines, then
She's actually quite sarcastic, even if she's not so good at picking on it up in others.
She's not above using her apparent ditziness to subtley mock people. Or to avoid questions she doesn't want to answer.
She's not put off by forbidding or scary initial impressions, and tends to assume they're people like everyone else underneath. Her reaction to the Qunari is to wonder if their horns itch, if they like sunshine and butterflies - and also apparently to note that they're rather attractive.

Carver: Okay, we're lost together. Both of us, not that we're "together" together.
Merrill: If we have to be lost somewhere, at least it's a nice hallway! Very well built, not at all likely to collapse.
Carver: Right, well, back to rescuing... wait. You're doing that on purpose!
Merrill: (Giggles)

Carver: A shame we didn't have time like this back in Kirkwall. Back then.
Merrill: If we have to be lost somewhere, at least it's a nice hallway! Very well built, not at all likely to collapse.
Carver: Right, well, let's get to it. My brother/sister will be missing you.
Merrill: I'm glad you think so.

Run around with Merrill and Carver in your party in Act 1. Also, run around with Carver and Isabela. So worth it.
