Just because people believe blood magic came from demons- and the game does seem to support that, since can only get the spec from a demon- doesn't mean that the practices aren't also out in the world somewhere, to be learned either through mentors or books, the same way you learn any magic school.Atakuma wrote...

Are people saying Merrill couldn't be a blood mage just because she's cute? (eurk... why did they have to make a Dalish companion "cute"... whywhywhy

I didn't say the Dalish interact freely with demons like there's no danger, just that maybe they have a different perspective on what constitutes a demon vs a spirit and how they can interact with them safely, which may cross the boundary of what the Circle considers Blood Magic in some instances.Atakuma wrote...

They did mention in that story diary that you get a sense of family. I think it is very big sisterly like to torment your sis or bro about dating.
I have no siblings. I am interested in Mama Hawke's evaluation of the various love interests for PC and their siblings.

But it's limited by how much blood you're using, isn't it? So as long as you aren't bleeding people to death, what's the problem? What's a little blood between friends?Atakuma wrote...

LMAO... I guess being a blood mage and being cute just don't fit the same mind set...though to me this more or less puts Merrill more on the Morrigan pathline of being a mage( which is what I ALWAYS did with Morrigan, was make her a blood mage after I got said spec). I personally don't mind it and she will defientely combo with Bethany in the majority of my party playthroughs...

Assuming that no demons are involved, I don't see much of a problem with a mage using blood magic in combat. You've gotta you what you've gotta do, right? Is mind controlling one enemy to kill another, or taking blood from that same enemy (or yourself) to wipe them all out any more or less moral than doing it the old fashioned way? Battle is messy.
The problem arises when blood magic is abused. The codex says that the Tevinter magisters used the lifeblood of slaves to fuel their spells, that was how they were able to create a portal to the fade and ultimately create the darkspawn. That example, using the blood of innocents, or controlling their minds is a far different scenario from using blood magic to defeat a group of jerks dead-set on killing you.
Assuming that Merrill is in fact a blood mage, this is likely her justification. But then, you've got the spirit/demon involved, which is a whole other can of worms...

Sure, the fire has a will of its own. And it chooses to exercise that free will by taking extreme delight in spreading pain and suffering.
Demons are evil. Just because you don't like the Chantry doesn't make them wrong about everything.
(Sigh) In any case, the use of blood magic just means that Merrill may not be as cute and innocent as she appears.

People are using fire as an analogy? Fire is used all the time for good purposes. Think of a controlled burn.
Or, you're pushed to the wall and use what you have available to you. That's why Grey Warden mages can be blood mages and it's allowed. When you're facing a darkspawn horde, the Circle mages and their spitballs just aren't going to do.

And anyway, at least she seems to be good at being a blood mage. Look what that idiot Avernus did by summoning one leetle rage demon. Instead, Merrill apparently used a demon to help turn the tide of the fight. Although the dialogue does hint that she didn't really know what she was doing, and was lucky not to be possessed.

would be cool if she had a movement spell like vellana showed (wrapped in roots, disappears, appears elsewhere out of roots).
