Not sure if I've actually posted here to formally declare my love for Merrill, but hell, it deserves repetition: Merrill is an awesome character and one of the best companions in the game (certainly the best LI, IMNSHO).

For me, a great deal of it revolves around her nobility of spirit. Here's a girl who has suffered great tragedy, who has been condemned by the very people she's trying to help, and yet she doesn't lose faith, never succumbs to the endless cynicism that defines so many others (of course, it's a bit different with full Rivalry, not that I could ever bring myself to be mean to her). Merrill is one of the few people in the story trying to make a better world, and unlike the others (looking at you, Anders), is never willing to throw others under the bus to see her vision fulfilled. She's willing to sacrifice herself to aid a world that fears and hates her, and maybe I've read too many X-Men comics, but that sounds like a wonderful character. She's proactive, compassionate, curious, and can end a conversation without angsting. What's not to love?

You don't actually have to be mean to her for the Rivalry path, though, iirc. It's been a while since I've played that particular Hawke (I only have one Rival Hawke since I prefer the friendship romance). It certainly has some very interesting/great moments. You should try it. ;-)

Nothing much, although I've wondered how differently King Alistair's exploits with Varric and Isabela might differ (from the comic series) if my apostate Hawke and Merrill were with them. I'm curious how Merrill would react to Tevinter, and the new Arishok's response to my respected Champion of Kirkwall - who was considered Basalit-an to his predecessor.

Hello, Merrill fans!

I figured this would be the best place to ask: does anyone know of a mod which gives her her original DAO vallaslin, preferably without changing her face? So far, the best I could find was a mod which changes her DAO appearance to her DA2 one, or a DA2 mod which gives her the proper vallaslin, but changes her face to Variel's in the process.

Normally, I would've picked the first mod, but, as I'm a stickler for lore, the fact that she has a unique vallaslin design when nothing in-game justifies it bothers me quite a bit.

Along the same lines, I would love to find a mod which harmonises Master Ilen's vallaslin, but alas, he's too minor an NPC for anyone to have noticed, it seems...

Edit: I was suddenly assailed by doubts and...after checking, it turns out both Velanna and Seranni also have unique vallaslin for no good reason...*twitch* Guess that's two others on my list then.

I haven't, no. Could you suggest a specific group that I should look into?

I'd make the changes myself...if I knew how. Alas, my modding skills are non-existent  Maybe I should try to remedy that instead.

I'm in this group, but it's been quite a while since anyone has posted there so I don't know how many of the 275 members still look there. Other than that, maybe look for a modding thread or group to look for hints on that front.

Just as a heads-up: I've figured out how to make this change myself, after asking around in the Toolset forums. So now, DA2 Merrill has her original tattoo, and DAO Merrill looks like her DA2 self, but also with the original tattoo. I've also given Velanna and Seranni non-unique tattoos. If anyone else is interested, I can share the mor files.

With people saying that a Dalish elf will be possible for the Inquisitor in the upcoming game, I wonder if the potential elven protagonist will be able to shape his own opinion of Merrill, who might be discussed by the other clans - especially with Kirkwall being the (perceived) inception of the Mage-Templar War, and Merrill being a prominent Dalish figure in those events.

My Dalish elf romanced Alistair and asked him to give lands to the Dalish as her boon for saving Ferelden. I was really hoping Merrill would say something about this when meeting Alistair, but she didn't.

I tried it with various party members, including one that was just Hawke and Merrill. Still silent.

Perhaps that particular flag wasn't set correctly in the save or there was a problem during the import. I haven't imported a save where Alistair is alive or the Warden an elf for that matter, so I can't really help with that scenario. Maybe there's a save editor out there which you could use to check if the flag was set correctly?

That's a bit too Disney princess for me. Like I said in the Twitter thread, it looks like a cross between Merrill and Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite. I actually would have felt guilty romancing that Merrill.

Ending is kinda sad if you don't romance her, Merrill sounded so disappointed when she talks about how things with Hawke never turned out like she wanted but cuts herself off before saying too much.
