I'm not questioning what the Vallaslin are for (or what the Dalish think they're for). The question was, are they just face tattoos or do they go elsewhere on the body as well?

 

Yeah, I'd assume it's just on the face, and the ones we see in the pic are for artistic license. Still looks really good on her /drool

So, yeah. I love Merrill. If you ever dropped by DQ, or the Inquisition boards (I rarely go in Origins or 2 boards) you might know it.

 

She's my favorite in DA2. And that is not a statement I make lightly.

There's also Legacy with a conversation with Carver and Merrill. He says something and she says something innocent, he reacts then stops himself mid-sentence, and goes "You're doing this on purpose!" and her response is to giggle. 

That's actually in Mark of the Assassin, but thank you for giving me an excuse to check Merrill's dialogue page on the wiki.  I need to take her more places, obviously.

I've never seen any indication that vallaslin were more than face tattoos. But Y'know, artistic licence and all that.

I don't know how canon the tarot cards are but the Dalish race selection cards both show full body vallaslin.

I'll just chalk it up to clan differences... maybe? Maybe some are more elaborate, but they basically retain the same Creators in one way or another.

Maybe full-body tattoos are for the really hardcore Dalish, you know? After all, the ritual to apply blood writing to the face is supposed to be really painful, so maybe having others on your body is a further test of endurance? Still, I suppose we'd actually have to see the full-body tattoos in game to be certain, one way or the other.

In Origins she had a totally different face and vibe. She was better there.

 

In DA2 she is weird looking. But i guess that means i don't like how the elves are portrayed there, in general.
