Zathrian used a powerful blood magic. The Dalish keepers obviously have blood magic capability, even if some don't learn it or choose to use it.Thicos wrote...
I prefer Merrill like a Keeper and not like a Blood Mage. It is more correct.
Merrill - She's a Keeper!

Yeah I was kind of taking it for granted that she's gotten kicked out of the clan for being a blood mage. Could be bogus though, especially because we already got one expelled Dalish companion.

Uhm, well... I have nothing interesting to add to the discussions right now, so instead I'll barge in with some chibi Merrill propaganda - she'll conquer all with her smiley face, she will.
Exactly what I wanted to see. Thank you

I highly doubt the Dalish are as fanatic about such things as the Chantry. There are hints in the Dalish origin and Nature of the Beast that the Tevinters and elves worked together, lived together, and that maybe together they unleashed some really bad juju (such as the beast that the arcane warrior spirit remembers fleeing from). I would expect that the Dalish have views on blood magic much like the Tevinter mages.
I'm surprised people are freaking out about it. Like Morrigan says, it's just a name.

As far as Merrill being a blood mage, so what. The chantry outlawed bloodmagic because it was common in the Imperium, their enemy and the ones that they blame for the darkspawn and blights. So outlawing blood magic may be just a purely relgious reaction instead of reasoned logic. All forms of magic can be abused so how does blood magic make any mage evil. I would think that it would be a persons action that would make them evil.

Sooo.... is this screenshot the source of all this discussion?? But, that is obviously femHawke (and looking super, I might add, apart from the smear)? I wouldn't be surprised if Merrill does turn out to be a blood mage spec, but what am I missing?
BTW Morrigan obviously knew some blood magic in order to do the DR, but she did not know mind control or destructive spells in it. There's blood magic and then there's blood magic.

I'm pretty sure that's the source of the speculation. And while it shows FemHawke, she's talking to someone - someone who said the on top of the screenie, indicating that they are a bloodmage (Marian's response options are on the dialogue wheel). So, whoever Marian is talking to is a blood mage, and the only companion mage we know (think we know?) about is goat ears . . .errr, Merril.

Yes that screenshot is the source of this discussion. While it might be fem-Hawke in the pic the main point is the text at the top that isn't Hawke. Of course we don't really even know that it's Merrill talking to Hawke if might be someone completely different.
Good point about the Chantry and lyrium.

Shame really because I love the idea that it's Bethany and she'd been experimenting with blood magic for years without anyone knowing. But that's a conversation for another thread.

I didn't mean it necessarily as a bad thing, just that she is more dangerous than she seems...dangerous in a good way if that makes any sense. She looks cute and sweet but she couldn't definitely hold her own.
