Cant get enough of the new Elf designs, have you thought that she might not be even the coolest looking Elf in the game? companion sure but I want to see even more Elf NPC's!

I'm totally happy about the new Dalish design, now they really look like elves instead of humans with pointy ears. That will definitely help to boost the game atmosphere and immersion factor.

Well done Bioware! Posted Image

Yeah...I got a feeling that she will find Fenris 'weak' because he got captured and experimented on by humans.
But still, I hope she is different then that, Vellana was like that and I couldn't stand her.

Ah! A potential love interest that I actually might be interested in! Thank you, BioWare, if the rumors about Merrill are true. Too bad we didn't see her outside of the Dalish elf origin story, though.

That makes her sound like Morrigan. It seems to me Merrill will be the antithesis of Morrigan. But with blood magic.

I don't get that vibe from her, if there's any rivalry between them at all I think Fenris will start it, mostly because it's possible his tevinter master used blood magic on him, he might hate Merrill because she uses blood magic as well.

One thing I liked about how they handled blood magic in DAO is that it was just mustache-twirling evil people that used it. Jowan had good intentions, but did bad things. Morrigan was a bad person who was also (possibly) your friend, and would even save your life with it. The Tevinters were plain evil.

To me, the possibility of Merrill being a good person who uses blood magic to help is an excellent plot. I'm sure it will have the possibility to backfire at some point, but I like seeing different sides of things.

One would think that after being slaved by the BM Tevinters elves wouldn´t be fans of its use. Really want to have a talk with one about it.

*sigh* I suppose I should have added a "primarily" (back/up) in my ears-related post.

Jowan however didn´t use BM itself for evil. I think he only resorted to it to escape the Tower and to power the spell to save the child.

About backfire, I guess the problem is to fight temptations. Mindcontrol or using non-volunteers is probably too tempting at times, and once you start down that path... Summoning demons danger was clear in Soldier´s Peak. It´s easy to lose control and the demon can go free.

The elves are cornered you know, the chantry controls the lyrium trade with the dwarves, any mage needs lyrium to restore their mana and power their spells, their keepers might be forced to use blood magic... also think of it, if my enemy won because he had the superior weapon, and if I could get access to that weapon why wouldn't I use it against them... fighting fire with fire.

Does anyone remember that Dalish pair of lovebirds who hadn't even KISSED?

This certainly puts "virginal girl next door" in a new light. The Dalish did strike me as somewhat restrained in their...um..pairings. I know it is speculation that the term applies to Merrill, but...well...given my experience of their campsite, they don't strike me as spicy folk.

Thus my wild guess that the usual BioWare hero (played by all of us) will get a real surprise when he romances her into the sack (like all past BioWare heros have done) only to find out the next morning that they are offically married under ancient Dalish law.

Personally I think it's a really interesting direction to take the "girl next door" character in. I don't think she'll look down on Fenris for being "weak" like was hypothesized a few posts up. They will probably clash, but it will be because Merrill is convinced that blood magic is not inherently evil and can be used for good, and Fenris will be having none of that. It'll probably be a bit sad, because I think they'd get along if their backgrounds were different, and I think they'll be aware of the fact.

Oh but hey, convenient reason why Fenris and Merrill wouldn't want to romance each other.

Merrill: Morning Hubbie.
Hawke: *Yawns* Morning.
Hawke: Wait... Hubbie?
Merrill: You do realise under Dalish law we're married now, right?
Hawke: ...

Good points. I guess if one doesn´t care much about becoming as the enemy it´s something sensible to do. As long as BM doesn´t work as the DS of the Force, then it´s a matter of properly training the Keepers. But is the Keeper always a mage?

Blood magic is just a tool and it is neither good nor evil. It's just one method for spellcasting - what you do with those spells, however, defines it. Just because blood magic allows you to control other people's minds and bodies doesn't mean you HAVE to use it for that. It just gives you the possibility.

Incorect. Mana recovers naturally over time.

and to repeat this:

It's more than that. The abiltiy to control minds and suck other people
dry for power...these are far more tempting than other powers. Just
think of what you could do if you could mind control people? The
temptation to use that power is far greater than any Storm of the
Centruy can ever be.

A very, very dangerous slippery slope.
Heck, I'm a goody good-shoes and I woudln't trust myself with that kind of power!

I am imagining a confusing cutscene before that.

PC: T's cold in my tent. Would you like to ...heat it up.
Merrill: ...Like with a fireball?
PC: Did I ever tell you they call me MAGIC HAWKE. Want to find out why? [Raises eyebrow]
Merrill: Pfft. But you aren't even a mage?!
PC: [Desperate] *Grabs crotch and does eyebrow waggle.*
Merrill: OH WAIT! I KNOW THIS ONE!! MICHAEL JACKSON??
PC: [Commits suicide] *Critical Mission Failure*
