Well as far as we know, the only way to summon demons is with blood magic..

As much as I dislike blood magic, I think its entirely separate from summoning demons. There are many demons and spirits in the game that are summoned from the Fade by non-blood mages.

Maleficars do learn blood magic from demons and a blood mage is more likely to summon demons to help him/her in battle. But they don't necessarily overlap.

Is it ever explicitedly shown that blood magic controls peoples minds or is that Chantry propoganda to stop the mages creating another empire based on Blood magic because it's so powerful.

I know that blood magic is dark what with sacrifycing lifeforce but I never got the impression it could control ones will.

I wonder if darkspawn blood counts as fuel for blood magic.

AWAKENING SPOILER!

After the Warden was trapped in the Fade by the darkspawn disciple known as The First, the Baroness used his life force to send the Warden and Justice to the physical world.

However, he was a Disciple. That set him apart from other darkspawn.

Darkspawn use a kind of blood magic to power their spells, so I'm gonna say yes, their blood "counts."  Also Avernus' experiments were based on the idea of the Wardens' tainted blood having more power than the usual kind.  If you use Power of Blood talents, it's basically blood magic.

Anyway, I guess this is o/t.  I'm awaiting more shots on the elf redesign.  Kinda not happy that my elf Wardens don't really look like I thought they look.  Posted Image  They're just flat-ears, I guess (and proud of it!).

Yes blood magic does control people.. Its been proven in the Dragon Age comic where the blood mage takes control of a Genlock, Duncan's Blood Mage story, and well.. Just look at the spell Blood Control..

I can see why some people fear and hate blood magic for this.. But this only makes me love it more..

Lol, it's time consuming, I've to say I'm really out of practice as well, it's been ages since I fired GIMP and started working at something and actually finished it.

Oh I can see why the chantry would want to supress that but there has to be some ways to protect against mind control but im guessing they were lost with the fall of the imperium or Arlathan. There must be some protection or people who are immune. Say another magister tried to control another I just don't see it happening.

I don't really see blood magic as evil it's just another form of power exept insted of gaining power from lyrium I use part of my own lifeforce never anyone elses. In DA2 I intead to prove that there can be such things as Parogon Blood mages.

off topic:

I think that Zevran and Valanna (she looked...unpleasant even for a human-like DAO elves) will look rather interesting with elven race redone.

Oh yeah but wasn't that only in the circle tower made by an exiled tevinter do you think every head of state and circle tower was issued with it? and even thendon't you need a mage I know this wasn't for gameplay purposes. But what about if one magister tried to control another or are blood mages exempt from control

Ah yes, the "Boy Scout Blood Mage" argument: that one good blood mage proves that blood magic is not evil.

Listen, there's no one saying that blood magic can't be used ethically or responsibly. Jowan was a good natured (if not particularly wise) blood mage. It can be used to heal as well as to kill.

But blood magic above all other forms of spells lends itself to abuse. Blood magic is inherently harmful. Sure, you can restrict that harm to the magic-user, but how many maleficars do that? It's too easy to simply rip the life force out of another person to fuel your spells, and blood magic allows mages to work enchantments that simply wouldn't be possible on their own. This is coupled with the fact that blood magic can be used to enslave the minds of others, an ability that is unique to that school of magic.

One good maleficar doesn't erase all the incredibly horrible things that blood magic has been used for. Time and again, this magic has been used to fuel some of the worst atrocities in Thedas' history. I've said it before and I'll say it again: just because you don't like the Chantry doesn't mean they don't have a point.

But that doesn't negate the fact that we shouldn't paint all blood mages with the same brush, I think it's the effect of the chantry that made us react so badly to blood magic, just because murderers use guns to kill doesn't mean guns can't be useful in the hands of law enforement (nearly identical analogy).

Yes definitely this..
Its always nice to find someone on here that isn't like "Bleh! Bleh! Blood Magic uses blood, and summons demons, and controls people so its teh evils!" Its not the weapon and what it does, its how you use it..

I know it's just after seeing trailer Hawke tear that qunari apart I have a keen intrest to play a blood mage or just a mage seeing as how I didn't in Origns.

But did anyone have any theroies on why Merrill became a blood mage?

My theory is that Dalish Elves see blood magic differently from those under the chantry's control, merely a means to an end, they use it just to fuel their spells and by extent the keepers teach it to their firsts'... makes sense since the chantry controls the lyrium trade with the dwarves.

I don't think you can find humans with eyes that big.

In real life, no. In DA though these can be this large -- Anora's eyes for example are huge. Or Sanga, the Pearl owner. And number of others.

The slant is less common but also present for some of DA humans -- the vendor from Orlais in Market District, and the woman who asks for traps in Lothering, if i remember her right.

Nice redesign. I like it. Reminds me of Lanaya. Both are young, and Keeper`s apprentices.

Merrill: Pfft. But you aren't even a mage?!
PC: [Desperate] *Grabs crotch and does eyebrow waggle.*
Merrill: OH WAIT! I KNOW THIS ONE!! MICHAEL JACKSON??

No, but the area Merril was first seen in the Dev Diary looks very similar to the area where the IGN screenshots show Hawke and gang hanging fighting skelotons. Of course it could be another mage Fem Hawke was talking to but im thinking under the basis that it was Merril
