She learned that pink eyeshadow + purple lipstick = bad idea. That's a good thing.
Stop oppressing her with your shem standards of attractiveness! It makes perfect sense for a woman who lives a nomadic existence and spends her time in the woods would randomly layer on horribly garish make-up.

it does have some differences than her Origins' blood writing but if you don't directly compare you might not notice the difference.
I can tell you that there certainly was effort to make anyone seen in Origins look similar in DA2. Sometimes it's not always possible to make them look exactly the same. And sometimes, thats even a good thing.
Her lovely cheekbones and jawline look just about the same to me.

The changes on her vallaslin are subtle. I care more about the world change in elf appearance, which effectively retcons our DAO PCs' appearance. Not that anyone cares, especially since so few apparently even played a Dalish elf.
I can appreciate this complaint. Though my complaint would be "This distinction should have been there to begin with."
Looking at other video game elf monstrosities, it could have been worse. It does make me wonder what the new mage hats look like and if I might be able to stick one on her.

It really all depends on how you lay out your UV maps, doesn't it? Human faces don't drastically change the shape from DAO to DA2, which makes preserving the original layouts easy. They could change the layouts, granted, but they could just as well keep them the same, since they weren't exactly bad.Saberchic wrote...
I actually didn't think cutting and pasting would have been possible. I work with 3D graphics, and you can't just cut and paste a texture and have everything line up. There's a lot of work involved, and sometimes, it just doesn't work out. I'm by no means a pro, but I've tinkered around. I think Maria's explanation sounds quite plausible to me.

Why though? Blood Magic makes her stronger, which makes her a more valuable party member..
I don't see how people can just ignore the obvious benefits of Blood Magic..
Sigh... Though it seems like Merrill and I are going to have a friendly romance rather than the rivalry one I wanted..
Frankly I don't have much issue with blood magic either. I don't find it anymore good or evil than any other magic. Some may mention being able to suck the life from your enemies as evil, but are okay setting them on fire.
On another thought, I played the dalish origins (female run) and liked Merrill. I also like the redesign. A lot of the women of DA looked angry for some reason to me.
If she is an LI, I'll pursue her.

As I discovered with my PCs, you have to have some, even if it's neutral tones and just to make them look healthy. Kinda like stage makeup.Atakuma wrote...
They really shouldn't have makeup at all imo.
Origins Merrill could have benefitted from less lipstick and more eyeliner, for instance.

*random made-up fact of the moment*
Cultures mixing together caused the Dalish to start wearing make-up.

Yeah, the Baroness … If there was ever a poster child for "MALEFICARS ARE BAD," it would be her.

Hmmm...may I know whats your option on GamesWarkshop Warhammer elves? They are classic yet alien looking.
Their design is my all time favorite so I was glad that redone DA2 elves got slightly similar body shapes.
