It's a reference to how Nancy's "love interest" was Hartigan, who was old enough to be her grandfather. Her offer of sex put him at considerable distress.

The implication is that Merrill will be to Hawke as Nancy was to Hartigan.

The reference was in response to Onyx' post about Merrill possibly aging during the game.
