What?! Piper Perabo is way cute and I was but a young teenage girl with a serious crush!

Yea, she did look really hot in that movie.  Its such a shame that her new show sucks so much

Yeah, it sucks...if you hate charismatic, well acted charaters, great dialogue, and spy-thriller-action stories. So, yeah, sure does suck...

Very true. Thankfully this time around I won't have to feel like a creep when I think Smexy thoughts. Trying to be the valiant Jedi Hero was kind of difficult when you wanted to bonk the young Twi'lek in your party and had to keep reminding yourself that she was, like, 16.

The more I look at Merrill, the more she looks like some damn manga elf. She will get "voted off the island" first chance I get.

Elves in manag usually have bigger ears and more normal human facial features..I just don' see it.

For comparison:

EDIT:
Note, I actually prefer elves with practicly fully human facial features, but hte DA2 concept art of hte races was good. Still have to see just how it ends up lookign in-game tough.

I'm surprised people are freaking out about it.  Like Morrigan says, it's just a name.

It's more than that. The abiltiy to control minds and suck other people dry for power...these are far more tempting than other powers. Just think of what you could do if you could mind control people? The temptation to use that power is far greater than any Storm of the Centruy can ever be.

A very, very dangerous slippery slope.
Heck, I'm a goody good-shoes and I woudln't trust myself with that kind of power!

It's just a way to power spells.  You don't have to be a murderer or power hungry.  What is mana but life force in a different form, that can be boosted artificially (and also with health effects) by lyrium?

You missed the most important part....

It's not that it's powerfull, but it's tempting...and not all power is equally tempting.

It's true that blood mages have an incredible power in their hand, and that the temptation fo controlling mind is (probably) greater than any other spells, but you have to consider another thing. There are a lot of example in the movies and comics history of character with great power, that don't abuse of it. The Jedi could control the mind, but they generally don't abuse of their power, or use it in exceptional case. It is this that difference them from the Sith. Superman has an enourmus power, but don't abuse it.
The capacity to self-control themselved and to not abuse of their power is the fact that difference the superheroes and the villains (the ones with superpower). A blood mage could use their power for good. Of course summoning a spirit or a demon it's always a dangerous thing, and they should be cautions with this. But I don't think that a blood mage can't be a good person. In one of my playthrough I will certain try to make a blood mage morally good, it Bioware permits us to do this. I think that it would be very interesting.

Not probably. 100%, undeniable. There's nothing in the real world that can even compare to it.

Mind Control can make your most complex , perverse and hidden wishes true, in ways no other spell can. It can be as a subtle and as potent as needed.

Can you bed anyone you want with fireballs? Go wherever you want with lighting? Turn people against eachother? Subtly manipulate them? Get them to give you tehri money and love you for it?

It's the ultimate and most abusive power.

I generally don't use comcis - especially superhero ones - as a guage for reality.
I would not trust no many alive with that power - NO ONE! Not even myself. And if I do trust someone, I would have to wonder if I'm trustign him because he made me trust him...

It's just one of those things that no man(or woman) should ever have. Like the One Ring, it has a corruptive influence.
I for one will be dissapointed if Merrill is a blood mage.

But DA2 is not reality. It's a fictional, fantasy world. Plus, you missed what I wrote after that line, that the abuse of a given power will lead a person to be a villain.
In the codex explanation, blood magic is written as an alternate source for use magic. Even in DAO, you can simply use the blood magic to change the fuel for you spells, without learning the control domination.
The mind domination it's not a thing that you learn immediately after youu know how to to use blood as fuel of your magic. For what we know the blood magic that Merrill knows (if she has) is not relate with mind domination, and is probably related to her keeper's magic. If we can specialize our companions (not sure about it), Merril can't have the same spells fo the BM spec. Her blood magic type is probably related to the ancient elven magic.

Plus, we can teach Anders in Awakening the blood magic, with a change on his dialogue, but to me he doesn't seem corrupted. I believe that the mages can resist to the corruption of the BM. Jowan wasn't a bad persone, he only wanted to became stronger.

EDIT: plus, generic mage spells in DAO consent you to manipulate the other person. See the entropy school.

Blood magic doesn't exert a corrupting influence. It isn't like the Dark Side of the Force. The magic itself isn't evil … it's just really prone to abuse by evil individuals.

90 pages already! I feel sorry for the Aveline and Carver threads. They've been around for months and they're not even half as long. And we haven't even heard her voice yet!

On that note, I'm going to make a guess on the voice actress: Amy Acker?

I think theres been enough discusson about blood magic already, lets keep it down at least until its not only speculation... (her being a blood mage).

What about her voice? Do we know how elves will sound like in DA2 at all? Like the Irish? LOL
@Face of Evil, why Amy Acker? Does she likes Elves? Or is she your random favourite actress?

Oh so much this. And Mission was actually 14.

And if Hawke's VA doesn't put some emotion in his lines, the romance is going to be super creepy regardless of Merrill's age.

Yes, the Dalish now have a Welsh accent. David Gaider confirmed there was a new voice actor, but did not specify if they were actually Welsh.

I am actually curious, have they told us anything at all about her voice actor, despite her being the last in Gaider's list of insta-picks??

Only this. It's almost sure that she's Welsh, because they said that dalish will be speaking with a Welsh accent. But that's all.

Too bad....I was hoping we could make a correct guess again, like what happened with Varric. It would have been extra amazing.

1) She doesn't seem to have any other TV series at the moment.
2) She's done voice work before (she was Huntress in Justice League)
3) David Gaider specifically asked for a certain actress for Merrill, so I'm guessing his pick would have to be someone he'd heard of, and I think he's a Buffy fan
4) Her portrayal of Winnifred in Angel was very girl next door-ish
5) Winnifred was eventually possessed by an ancient demon, so when Merrill is transformed into an abomination because she consorted with demons, it'll provide an added layer of irony!

You know, if Amy Acker is really voicing Merrill that'd be the most epic thing to happen ever, I loved her role in Angel... she also portrayed Kelly Peyton in Alias, I'd squee like a 10 year old girl if she's Merrill's voice actor.

Wow, that's a boatload of randomness/speculation.

So here's the important question: Has she done a Welsh accent on any show/film before?
If not, name an real a reason why she should be picked over say, an actual Welsh actress.

I have not heard her speak with a Welsh accent. But actors can pretend to be from other countries and I think she'd be good for the role.

Quite often do, in fact. I think there was one situation in which an American actor and a British actor both played in the same film, which called for a British accent. Fans wrote in that the Brit should take lessons from the American actor. Very funny, but also kind of sad.

Back on topic, however, I can't speculate on actors, but I'd think that someone who has proven that they can speak with a Welsh accent would be a better choice.
