The sixth party member..

That should include the death epilogue. An arrow in the neck is hard to explain away, but I'm sure they could come up with something, if they wanted to. Don't know how believable it would be, but that hardly matters.

I won't complain if he lives anyway but I don't see how surviving an arrow through his neck can be explained easily.
How many times does it have to be pointed out that the devs have said the epilogues could be changed AND, not to mention, how many major changes have we already seen? Entire races have been overhauled, changing the outcome of one particular epilogue is nothing by comparison.
But there's a line and explaining away a character's death (a death that technically happens during the game) or even worse saying that it never really happened crosses it for me. I can accept that they wanted to change races and similar things but I can't just ignore being told a companion is dead and then being given that same companion in a sequel. I can live with whatever they decide to do with him but I still don't have to be happy with it.

Haha, I know! Three hunky young male party members (four counting Carver)? When's the last time that happened?!

I hope it's Anders.
It can't be Prince Sensitive, since he's DLC. I also highly doubt ot the point of believing it can't be Anders, because then we'd have two class-party members that are carry overs.

Lol. I could see Anders saying that, too.
After today's dev diary, and a screenshot that I've never seen before, I really do think that Anders is the sixth party member.
I'm not convinced that Merrill is the returning companion. They're obviously holding back a male mage, and it would make sense to announce the returning character last. ...Or it could be like the Garrus reveal, and we won't know until the 8th. ):
Considering that all of the party members so far are so pointedly different from the Origins ones, I don't see why they'd go with a blonde, human male mage that wasn't Anders.

Wait what? Why not? As I remember when they said returning companion they said returning companion from Origins last time I checked Anders was never in Origins. And they pretty much have announced it.. Its Merill.. Just wade through the bull**** in the Merrill appreciation thread and you'll know..

Merrill could be the returning companion, but I'm still skeptical. I think she's too minor of a character to be hyped up as the returning party member. Plus, this came from Laidlaw. If it were Gaider or someone else, I would suspect trickery. But he tends to be more straightforward, from what I've seen.

Actually, Laidlaw said "from Dragon Age 1." And Awakening is pretty much considered a part of Origins, anyway.

Well, technically they wouldn't be lying if she was the returning companion.

That's true. But still, when most people hear "returning party member" they think of Origins, or Awakening. Merrill was only a temporary companion in one Origin story. They could be talking about her, sure, but that borders on wordplay and getting peoples' hopes up, I think.

I know in one of the epilogues for Anders, is that he can die, shot by an arrow. Maybe its a companion that is influenced by your decisions in Origins :X? It seems unlikely that it is Anders, but at the same time, if it is, it could make your decisions in Origins seem much more significant.
I've wondered if this would happen in a Bioware game. It seems likely, with all their companions being so... killable. It would be kind of unfair in this game though, since you'd be short a mage. I can see the fanraving now.

Honestly, Anders is a mage and without the Warden-Commander there to keep the templars from trying to force him into submission, he could fake his own death. Easy.preciousmetal wrote...

Oh, I know that she's a returning companion. I'm just skeptical that she's the only one. Unless there's some confirmation that I'm not aware of...?
I just checked out that German interview with Laidlaw again, and he actually says there will be at least one party member from DA1 returning in DA2. There's still hope!

You think that changing the epilogue is okay, that's great. Some people
feel differently and are allowed to express their opinions.
Sucking at the game is irrelevant. Every epilogue should be accounted for.

I never said that it was okay, I said that actual Bioware devs have been quoted saying they WILL be making changes to epilogues. I'd rather they didn't, but the fact is that they have gone on record saying epilogues are not set in stone.
