I am having a very strange problem here that I've never seen before.

Before getting to the crux of the issue, here are my computer specs:
Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67 GHz
9 GB DDR3
NVIDIA GTX 260 (896 MB)
Windows 7 Home Premium
DirectX 10.0 (I read somewhere that you "need" DirectX 9.0, but that gets installed with Mass Effect 2 anyway...)

I own a hard copy Collector's Edition, and also have access to the Digital Collector's Edition through EADM (EA digital manager), since if you register the game with EA they will kindly let you download the game through EADM if you wish.

Now the backstory: after not playing since Lair of the Shadow Broker came out, I felt a hankering to finish my 6th run-through in Mass Effect 2. When I start it up however, the main menu seems to "freeze"; all that's on the screen is the closed Cerberus News Feed laptop with the words "Connecting to Cerberus Network" on it...and it just stays like that. I've waited an hour, and nothing happens. I try pressing the menu buttons, and nothing works.

So I say to myself, well that's odd. So I turn off all my internet connections, and turn on Mass Effect 2. I get the screen that says I cannot access EA servers because I'm offline, and then I return to the menu, and everything works normally, the buttons and everything. I go to the options menu and turn on the option to manually log-in to the EA servers.

I turn my internet connections back on again, and turn on Mass Effect 2. The same problem occurs; the Cerberus New Feed laptop remains closed, but there are no words "Connecting to Cerberus Network" because I'm supposed to click that button manually. The problem is, I can't click that button manually--there are no words saying "Connect to Cerberus Network" and when I try clicking there, nothing happens. The menu buttons don't work either--I'm stuck at the title screen once more.

I've tried the following solutions.

Turning off my antivirus program (avast! Free because I'm a cheapskate and I don't peruse shady websites anyway)
Turning off Windows Firewall
Flushing my DNS cache
Leaving only one of my internet connections (either direct LAN or WiFi) on
Re-installing from physical disc with the 1.02 update and without the 1.02 update
Re-installing from physical disc with DLC and without DLC
Re-installing from EADM with the 1.02 update and without the 1.02 update
Using the following command prompts:

netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled

netsh interface tcp set global congestionprovider=none

netsh interface tcp set global ecncapability=disabled

Nothing has worked so far, and I'm completely mystified as to how my computer is behaving. The real mystery is, when I have all my internet connections off, I can technically still play the game (just without any of my paid DLC now that I've re-installed four times and never got a chance to authorize online...), but once I turn on my connections, even if I have "manual connection to the EA servers selected," I can't get past the title screen anyway... the menu buttons don't work, and I never have the opportunity click the button to manually connect to the EA servers either.

I've owned this game since its release date, and never had a single problem until now.

Any clues whatsoever?

PS: I should note that I tried playing Dragon Age as well, just to see if maybe it was a server-related thing, because then I shouldn't be able to access DA:O servers either. But nope, I can log in just fine while playing DA:O...so strange...

I too am having issues logging into the Cerebrus network, immediately upon load of ME2 it says the EA servers can not be connected to, been getting it since I started a new character 2 weeks ago.

Edit: I can play all the DLC.

Ive just uninstalled the game, reinstalled, patched, loaded dlc, fired up the game, punched in my account details, and was able to log in and start playing, no problems connecting to Cerberus Network.
I'm running WinXP, SP3, 32 bit.

That narrows it down to a few things.
1) Local region being flooded with activity and the EA servers dont have the capacity to deal with the increase in demand since it went on sale a few weeks ago.
2) Recent update to Win7 or Vista is blocking the communications. Those who are on these OS's and are still able to connect, can probably do so due to a pre-existing rule within their configs to allow the comms to go through.

Things to try:
1) Change your regional settings to somewhere confirmed working. In this case, Australia. Give it a test.
2) If you have a restore point available on your machine, go back at least 3 weeks, preferably past the date of any Windows update performed in December.

Just to clarify; when you say regional settings, you're referring to changing the region in Control Panel, yes?

We'll see if that works, I really don't want to use a restore point just to find out that doesn't work either...

Edit: well, changing the system locale in Control Panel to English (Australia) did nothing...

I found another thread for a similar problem: http://social.biowar...index/2364124/1

For this guy, the problem resolved on its own after a few weeks, so I'm hoping that'll happen to me too.

I know I can connect to EA servers, because I can log into DA:O just fine. Hopefully you're right about the ME2 servers just being super busy from the recent sales...

If anyone else knows a magic solution that doesn't involve waiting for long periods of time or restore points, please feel free to chime in! Otherwise thanks for the tip, friend...if nothing changes in 2 weeks or so I guess I'll try that restore point (blargh)

Another thing to try is to set your alarm for a ridiculous time in the morning, say 4am, and try then. Logically a lot of kids should have been told to go to bed by their parents, which could free up some bandwidth for your connection.

Regional Settings:

Not sure about Win7 and Vista, but there are 2 different options in XP for the regional settings. One is for regional language, which wouldnt have any effect. The other is listed as "Location". Thats the one you should try and fiddle with.

Oh hi, Bogsnot. I am having the same problem. This is a nightmare. Only way I have found a way to get around it is kill my internet connection and then reconnect once it tells you you must have one to play the dlc's, but so far that has only got me in halfway (saying it could not confirm a couple of other dlcs like Kasumi). Sounds like a bioware server problem.

Yeah, beginning to sound more and more like EA's servers arent capable of handling the holiday traffic. Not sure if we have our own servers here in Oz/Sth Pacific, and the lower population cuont means we dont suffer the same problem, or wether its a time zone thing and we tend to be sleeping or working while you guys are playing, and vice verse.

Games need DRM like a fish needs a bicycle.

I can confirm that this thread's method works: http://social.biowar...index/2364124/1

You need to kill your internet connection so that you can get an active menu to change your options to disable automatic login

Once you do that then you can login to eaonline manually using ur password and everything works fine.

Foxhound, my problem is similar but slightly different from his, unfortunately.

When I kill my internet connection, I am able to access the menu to disable automatic login.

However, when I start up Mass Effect 2, I still get the same problem although automatic login is disabled; maybe my initial post didn't make that clear enough, but that's the main crux of this problem.

Even with automatic login disabled, my menu screen is still "frozen." I can't access any of the buttons, the Cereberus News Feed laptop remains closed, and there's no button for me to press to manually connect to the Cerberus Network.

I've even tried killing the connection, opening up Mass Effect 2, and then turning the connection back on, but it doesn't work that way either. Very confusing.

@ Bogsnot, yep, I changed the system locale to English (Australia), to no avail. I'll try opening the game up at an unreasonable hour and see if that helps too.
