Anybody else kind of hoping ME3 is the end of Mass Effect...period?

I was thinking about what might follow ME3 and I think I came to the conclusion that I want nothing to follow ME3.  I mean...I love Mass Effect, there is no doubt about that.  But I think running things into the ground is a horrible idea.

Take this for example.  I believe that Stephen King's Dark Tower books are the greatest fantasy series of books ever written.  And when it ended, I knew it was over.  That made me sad but at the same time I knew it was selfish to want the story to just continue forever because anything beyond what the creator wanted to make is just destructive to the vision of the creator. There were probably a hundred ways King could've made that story continue, but he didn't.  He put his ego and his money out of the way and he let it end.  And because of that I have nothing but fond memories of that series.  I always will and it will always be one of my favorite things and nobody can take that away.

I'm all for them making movies of Mass Effect and comics and exposing the Shepard story to as many people as possible, as they are doing with The Dark Tower.  But as far as making more Mass Effect video games.  I don't think they need to...nor do I want them to.

Yes, I agree. Don't disappoint Bioware.

I don't know. I think a Mass Effect MMO would be interesting.

I just thought it was worth pointing out that King actually ended the final The Dark Tower book in such a way that the series technically has no end.

NO, GOD NO, PLEASE NO. I'd rather have a multiplayer-focused ME over an MMO.

I wouldn't mind an ME without Shepard, but I've no qualms with them letting the series end after the 3rd and developing something else.

I would probably burst into tears as soon as the credits roll, but yeah, let it end there. Do the whole story justice.

No. The ME universe is too rich and has too many possibilities to just end at one man/woman's story. There are all kinds of different directions a new game could take that leaving it after just three games would be an insult to the world the Devs have made.

The Reaper story can end, but ditching Mass Effect as a setting would be really, really dumb. The lore is too fleshed out and would be a waste.

Hell, I think they should make this series as large as Star Wars since it easily the best sci-fi universe out there. No more Reapers and stuff after this though, or "dark forces from the beginning of time" and sh*t. Now maybe the Citadel races can blow up the Batarians and the remaining evil Geth. With an objective like that, Bioware could easily craft an FPS or, better a RTS in the ME universe which I would definitely buy.

And one other thing:

DO NOT POISON THE SERIES BY MAKING A ME MMO!

that is all......

Not a fan of MMO's? Just throwing the idea out there. I think the rich backstory of Mass Effect along with the possibilities for many stories would make a great MMO. I didn't think so many people were against it so I guess the idea is a lost cause.

I think there is a lot of potential for Mass Effect to branch out into some different territory once the Shepard trilogy ends. They've started so many possible plot lines that, even though many will be touched upon in ME3, they could easily be expanded.

What I'd love to see in the future is a Mass Effect title that allows you to choose your own race and have a fairly unique experience depending on what you play. Krogan and the genophage for example, Salarian STG operatives. I'd probably even play a Quarian spinoff where you have to go through your pilgrimage and all that jazz.

I actually think there should be games after ME3. The universe is the best i've ever seen, and would hate to see it go to waste. But there is a point where too much is bad.

@ISpeakTheTruth

But do the Devs feel the same way you do? They spent three years working on the first ME before it came out. That means these people have been working on ME since 2004. 2004-2011. That's 7 years. If I had spent 7 years of my life working on something that had made millions of people happy I don't think I would at all be insulted by it ending. I would look at it in the manner that I had created something great and I wouldn't want to ruin that by running it into the ground, essentially making all of those people disappointed.

You don't set up a massive and diverse universe then tear it down three games in. Mass Effect is going to be a franchise we won't be forgetting and it makes alot of money. I wouldn't give up the cash cow.

I will never understand the "I hope they dont make more games" BS

Why do you care? Would it somehow ruin your enjoyment of ME1 2 and 3? You dont have to play it, therefore whats the point of desiring nothing else comes? How does it affect your life in any way?

But here's the thing.  Not  "giving up the cash cow" screws you later on.  Yeah, it makes money, that is great.  But you run it into the ground and eventually you ruin what your fans love and then they quit buying your games.  It isn't a sustainable business model to destroy your fan base.

I think the Mass Effect universe that Bioware have created is too big to just end with a third game. I think there is much potential for another great series of ME games not centered on Shepard.

Just please, not an MMO.

See my last quote.  I love BioWare and I love BioWare games.  But if they run it into the ground and ruin it then people quit buying not just Mass Effect but all BioWare games.  Then, there is no more BioWare.  And that affects us all.
