No. The ME universe is too rich and has too many possibilities to just end at one man/woman's story. There are all kinds of different directions a new game could take that leaving it after just three games would be an insult to the world the Devs have made.

This.

I disagree. There is too much depth and potential for the ME universe to let it go to waste.

I would agree that the ME universe is arguably the richest in gaming Sci fi. I just don't have faith the creators can keep up the same level of originality with each new IP. This hardly ever happens - in movies, books, comics, you name it.

Eventually, the initial idea is squandered for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

The Mass Effect universe is huge and rich with lore. Other ME games can easily be done.

Looking forward to anything that has to do with Mass Effect =)

I trust Bioware.

Whats this nonsense about Too much cow milking?

Mario, Sonic,Metal Gear and Star Wars have been around since the 90's

Cow Milking PLEASE.... if people drone over the same crap that Mario is (Bowser Attacks Peach Kingdom, Bowser Kidnaps Peach, Mario Arrives at World 1, Mario Arrives at World 10, Mario Fights Bowser, Bowser Escapes,Mario Arrives at World 15, Mario defeats Bowser, rinse and repeat)

I dont see why ME cant have a spin-off game or two

Well, maybe I should mention another, more important reason they should abandon Mass Effect after #3

A brand new IP. A fresh idea. A new universe. Given Bioware's talent, it could be very exciting. But it won't happen, not for very a long time.

I'm glad Shepard is gonna be over. I'd be interesting in other aspects of the universe being explored, and different kinds of Mass Effect games being done. However, I'm sure if the ME team decided to do something new entirely, and make a new setting, it would be great. I mean, we wouldn't have ME at all if they hadn't tried new settings and gameplay in the first place.

Would continuing the franchise be really that bad if they took the time between each game to make it a worthy addition? I don't think it would be. There are so many ways they have set up that could have great amounts of potential. Of course they could just abandon it, but why? With all due respect to all involved, Bioware is going to do what Bioware is gunna do. That may be abandoning the series, we shall see.

Depends how Mass Effect 3 is. If it keeps becoming less like a classic sci-fi homage and more like a modern Hollywood action film, then I'd actually prefer to see it go before it becomes something I hate. If ME3 brings back more of that quasi 80's sci-fi feel that ME1 had and doesn't make stupid retcons and awful design decisions then I'll want it to continue in some form.

If Mass Effect 3 stays the course and maintains the high-octane, dramatic feel of the second game with the same expansive universe of both games, and continues to refine the lore to suit the increasingly polished gameplay, then I'll want it to continue in some form.

i'd like the Sheperd/Reaper story to finish with ME3

but there's so much to enjoy of the ME universe - especially including ally characters - that i'd buy a Mass Effect game w/o the Reaper story and w/o playing as Sheperd

No, that's ridiculous. The could make 10 years worth of bad sequels and if a good one comes out in the 11th then I wouldn't care. I don't understand why people let sequels have an effect on their enjoyment of the originals.

shepards story? yes.

the incredible digital universe ive fallen in love with? Heeeeyyylll no.

simply to many things they can still do with the ME universe and I can't see Bioware screwing it up by adding even one more game to the franchise. I've devoted over 400 hours of my basement dwelling life to the mass effect series and intend to expand further even after ME3.

ME universe should be expanded. We don't need Shepard as the main character for every game. I love to see a game that based on "Shanxi" and "First Contact War".

Yes, going in directions like this would be awesome.

No way, the universe finally started to develop a strong sense of personality in ME2. I can see a lot of interesting stories being told without the Reapers or Shepard.

But DON'T go backwards. We don't need prequels, we need to move onwards.

It'd be stupid to never do anything with the Mass Effect universe again.

Considering there's a movie in the works I think it's safe to assume that there probably will be more Mass Effect games. Though hopefully ME3 will bring a fairly good conclusion to Shepard's journey and or the Reaper threat.

Really I'm not sure why people are so opposed to having an MMO set in the Mass Effect universe. I really don't see it damaging the lore. I really don't get what people's concern is. The fact they made the KOTOR series into a MMO is probably just a testing ground before the move on to making a Mass Effect MMO. I really think Mass Effect would work well for an MMO setup. Look I understand there's some disparity over the lack of quality singleplayer games these days, but mass multiplayer games are the future. There's just no avoiding that. The reality is it's a lot more sensible to have a game where you can play for just 5-10 minutes and get something done since that will appeal to a lot more people. Thing is most singleplayer campaigns at some require you to sit through lengthy conversations and cinematics. Some people just don't have time to play a game for 2-4 hours a day. Most maybe just an hour, and most full-time working adults probably only have a few hours on certain days they can even conceive of playing. That's why the CoD games are so popular. You can pick it up, put it in, play for a half hour and be on your way. MMOs are pretty flexible in letting you play as long or as little time you have available.

I hate to say this, but I suspect the future of ME is going to be dependent on the sales of the movies.

If the movie is a total flop, then investment support for ME will vanish quicker than anyone thinks.

And while some vid games survived their movie counterparts, many more do not. The Wing Commander series of vid games was a very long one that went for a number of years, but when the movie popped up and flopped. The game vanished from the scenes, only to have one more developed a few years later.

Also while I admit I like the idea of a MMO I doubt it's going to come about with SWTOR already on the EA - BioWare door. The MMO market is really flooded at the moment and I'm not sure how much money they could pull in with the ME series. I really hate the PVP or Co-op Multiplayer aspect due to the COD series (and a few other titles) and people modding to the point where it makes any PVP enjoyment a mute point. I'm not against people modding the game BTW, only when it effects fair play and thus the game becomes 'who has the fastest processor - least latency game'. And thus that really is the only reason why I'm against PVP Muliplayer aspect in any title out there. Plus no matter how much the devs claim to have it worked out. . I know someone else will have found a way to bypass it. I've seen it in so many titles over the years it isn't funny. . Starting with the old days of Mech Warrior 3 & 4.

But are the movies even going to fit in at all with the rest of the ME media out there, or are they going to be a complete retcon with different designs, characters who are only the characters by name and another classic case of the director putting his own stamp on it rather than staying true to the source material?

I believe I read an article that said Bioware was going to have a lot of creative control with the movie, back when it was first announced. Sadly, I cannot back this up with a link.

So really, as long as the games don't become terrible.

It reminds me of Halo.... People claim that MS is milking that franchise, yet the quality of the games has not decreased (save for ODST, which was still pretty damn good as a narrative).

As long as they keep a minimum standard for the games that come out, then keep 'em coming.

That said, I would not be sad if we saw a new IP from Bioware at some point in the next 3 years.

Good question. . . And that is one that can only be answered by the contract(s) that were written up. Again Wing Commander was nearly a total diverange from the actual game. . Fans of the game went to the movie and found their beloved fighters, Kilrathi, and the Tiger Claw totally different from the game. (Hell the whole reason for the fight -  Kilrathi themselves only had 1 maybe 2 scenes and it was never explained why they were attacking.)

No way, the trilogy is just the tip of the iceberg of the ME universe. I want to see more in the series. I look forward to being introduced to all kinds of new stories and characters.
