The movie is most likely going to be horrible guys so don't get your hopes up, look how bad they bungled Perseus' story (clash of the titans) and look how old it is. Hollywood will most likely dumb it down so people who have never played the series know what's Going on.
Which is always hilarious, when you consider the fact that in all of these cases the number one customer is going to be fans of the game in the first place. It's like how the Silent Hill movie changed Cheryl Mason's name to Sharon for no reason whatsoever. Those unfamiliar with the series wouldn't be bothered at all by the change since they wouldn't know any better, so all it did was ****** off fans.

The ME universe is something that will be with us for a long time. You don't create a new IP and only do three games for it.Whiskey_Trigger wrote...
I was thinking about what might follow ME3 and I think I came to the conclusion that I want nothing to follow ME3. I mean...I love Mass Effect, there is no doubt about that. But I think running things into the ground is a horrible idea.
Take this for example. I believe that Stephen King's Dark Tower books are the greatest fantasy series of books ever written. And when it ended, I knew it was over. That made me sad but at the same time I knew it was selfish to want the story to just continue forever because anything beyond what the creator wanted to make is just destructive to the vision of the creator. There were probably a hundred ways King could've made that story continue, but he didn't. He put his ego and his money out of the way and he let it end. And because of that I have nothing but fond memories of that series. I always will and it will always be one of my favorite things and nobody can take that away.
I'm all for them making movies of Mass Effect and comics and exposing the Shepard story to as many people as possible, as they are doing with The Dark Tower. But as far as making more Mass Effect video games. I don't think they need to...nor do I want them to.
If I had to guess I'm thinking that ME will be kinda like Dragon Age in that David Gaider said he doesn't see any reason for Dragon to end. No time soon anyway. There are plenty of stories left to tell. I have a feeling Bioware feels the same way about ME.
And this is a good thing IMO.

Why do you care? Would it somehow ruin your enjoyment of ME1 2 and 3? You dont have to play it, therefore whats the point of desiring nothing else comes? How does it affect your life in any way?

ditching Mass Effect as a setting would be really, really dumb. The

Go to the story of another character, with choice of species this time like a Sci-Fi RPG should.
Go MMO.
But both ideas years after the events of the ME trilogy,
Or:
The fall of the Protheans prequel.

No way, the universe finally started to develop a strong sense of personality in ME2. I can see a lot of interesting stories being told without the Reapers or Shepard.
But DON'T go backwards. We don't need prequels, we need to move onwards.
Going backwards is easy than onwards.
So let's not take the easy route.
I know what happens at Shanxi, I've read the codex. I don't need to play a relatively minor battle, especially when the only purpose it could serve is fanwank.
Then how BW is going to reflect the decisions in ME series to the new game series if it is not a prequel?

When Sheppard's story ends, I wouldn't mind a new series within the Mass Effect universe. Perhaps with a new customizable character whose default will be a girl.
As for a ME MMO. I might pass out on it since I'm not comfortable with playing MMOs. I'll never leave my room if this were to happen.

Certainly not. Like others have said, the ME universe is nicely fleshed out. I'd hate for all of that effort to go to waste.
How is having 3 epic games letting it go to waste?

They took the time to come up with a believable setting and they should utilize it further.

Multiplayer has a lot of potential, they don't even have to make it Player vs. player if they don't want to, they could make it a firefight game where you do objectives with a squad and hold off waves of enemies.
EDIT: Also during this multiplayer you can do things like control turrets, utilize sniper positions, use biotics, and choose perks and stuff like that. You also have a few reinforcement soldiers.
Perk examples: Extra shielding pack, offhand ammo, incendiary ammo, disruptive ammo, extra speed/athletic pads, etc.

I just don't want them to milk it too much, I'm all for a multiplayer focused spin off and a game in another time and maybe even a Real time strategy game but they should know when to stop.

Wow. I firefight/horde type online play sounds like an amazing idea to consider. A second this. And as I've said before, I'd love to play a first contact war FPS.

A lot of possibilities for stories and different games. Of course any such project should be either made by BW or other competent game studios... stories especially (Ehh, get Obsidian do something. Just give them enough resources for a large QA and time for polishing..).
Of course any such shouldn't be played safe either. While both COD Black Ops and Halo Reach are good games, both lack ambition and don't even refine concepts from earlier games really, storywise both are rather weak too.
If you don't like/want to play other ME games beside the trilogy, don't play them. No one is forcing you to. What you don't know doesn't affect you. Consider them non-canon in case you do hear something about them...

No. The ME universe is too rich and has too many possibilities to just end at one man/woman's story. There are all kinds of different directions a new game could take that leaving it after just three games would be an insult to the world the Devs have made.

So if I want to start getting into the Mass Effect universe and investing in it as a fan, I don't want to see it starting to get milked and turning to crap. It's not as easy to simply ignore later products when you're trying to be a hardcore Mass Effect fan. And when the second game comes along and already begins to show signs of IP degradation, I'm not exactly sure I want it to be going too much further than the third game unless it pulls itself back together. I'd prefer Mass Effect take a more Firefly-esque route if that were to be the case: incredibly short, but mostly brilliant.
Also, it doesn't help that we've got a movie on the way apparently, which if most modern Hollywood adaptations are anything to go by is going to be absolutely awful and next to nothing like Mass Effect except in name.

And I liked Firefly (for the characters) but the universe itself was already a bit wobbly short as it ran.

Set the next story anywhere from a couple of decades to a few centuries later so that the political and social status quo have had time to be restructured.
The reason a lot of IP's got milked and fell apart over the years was they kept going over the same ground.
Voyager/Enterprise/Prequels what have you all covered territory we didn't need to see because it was only ever just background or had seen enough of.
KoTOR worked because it was covering an era independant of its predecessors.
