Bug/glitch, getting stuck in things

So I'm playing ME2 after buying it over the holidays. One thing I
noticed that was really buggy was when I was walking around or engaged
in battles, I'd sometimes get stuck in the terrain and it would prop me
up above it with no way to go back down.  I was stuck there and couldn't
move but I could shoot and get shot.  Had to reload my game when it
happened.

Has this happened to anyone and, if so, is there a way to fix it?  Save often has been helpful to some extent.

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU       Q 720  @ 1.60GHz
Clock Speed: 1595 MHz
Physical Memory: 5.98 GB
Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
VRAM: 1.00 GB
Sound Adapter: Speakers / Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)
Driver Version: 6.10.6241.0
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0  (Mar2009) or later

ME2 version : v1.02
ME2Launcher version : v1.01
ME2Config version : v1.03

Steam version.

1. What is the nature of the problem you are seeing?
Getting stuck in terrain, obstacles, debris, staircases and whatnot.  Then having it place me in the air above it and not being able to move from that one spot forcing me to reload the game.

2. When did the problem start occurring?

Occured in the first 10 minutes I ever played the game and has been going on ever since.

3. Where does your problem occur?
In staircases, debris, piles of rocks, crates...basically, anything that's part of the terrain.  It hasn't happened in open areas with nothing in terms of obstacles.  It has always involved boxes, crates or some kind of obstacle.

4. What are the steps in replicating the problem?
Bumping into said obstacles triggers it although the frequency of it is random.  It doesn't always happen when I'm trying to force it to happen but I'll just go on missions and hit the corner of a staircase and I'll get stuck.  Last incident was when I was trying to turn the ventilation when you meet Mordin and his clinic gets attacked.  In the area where the controls for the ventilation are is where it happened while I was fighting varren.

5. Have you modified your game in any way?
No, this happened before I installed any DLC or anything.  I had just installed the game.

Let me know if there's any additional info I can provide that could help.
Thanks!

First thing I would try is downloading and installing DirectX9.0c from Microsoft's website. ME2 specifically requires that version. Steam should have installed it, but a lot of people have been getting weird errors with the Steam version of late.

Win7 is capable of running both DX 9, and 10 side by side without hiccups.

Next thing is your video drivers. Have you recently updated them? nVidia have tendancy to screw up functionality in older cards when they release new drivers. Roll them back a revision if you have.

It's a very common bug and there is no fix. It's more common on some PCs than other. No idea why. My brother had this bug more often in one playthrough than me in five playthroughs. Yesterday was the second or third time it ever happened to me (on Horizon). Just quicksave often.

Thats too bad.
Quicksave it is then.  I'll be more careful with my pathfinding as well.

Or perhaps it's the player? For instance, perhaps some people tend to run closer (or even run against) objects, before hitting the cover button, than others. Or some tend to walk close to walls and other barriers, while others tend to stick to the middle of a path. Since it seems it's usually moving up against objects that does it, I imagine playing habits like that could affect the frequency of the bug. (Also would explain why I can only recall this happening to squadmates once, even though I've had it happen multiple times myself: their pathfinding/covering behavior is such that they aren't likely to trigger it.)

The best solutions on the pc is still having a bind to 'phase' out of objects so you can free yourself when stuck or floating.

If you go the editing route, its worth disabling the automatic storm to cover setting too. I don't think I've ever floated or got stuck since disabling that and relying entirely on manually pressing the 'enter cover' key which I removed from my storm (space bar) key.

@Kloreep: The one thing I have noticed in my playthroughs when it happens to squaddies, is once it happens, it will continue to happen to that squaddie for the rest of the mission, regardless of what screen its on.

ie: I had Jacob on Grunt's recruitment mission. He got stuck "floating" right after the first combat, andthen continued to float in each area, regardless of how many times he dies, I reloaded etc.

And yes, I do use Jacob. He's very handy once you give him assault rifles instead of shotguns.

I have the same issue as u stated.

I just avoid walking into the edge of the scene or object, sometimes it's really annoyed during combat, but that works.

Possible but when my brother played on my PC he had much less problems than when he played on his own PC. Maybe his playstyle evolved, though.

There's one glitch where Shepard's angle is stuck and he doesn't face the camera's facing direction. What's interesting is that I got this much more often as a sentinel.

Got this once in total. As a sentinel. :P
It lasted only from entering one room until exiting. Never happened again (including on re-entry).

Pressing escape fixes the direction issue.
