Only city-elves spoke in American-accents. Hawke is a human from Fereldan, why the hell would he speak like a city-elf?

As for the Flemeth/Morrigan name thing, while I'm not sure about where David Gaider got Flemeth's name from, but he said he chose Morrigan's name because he liked it and heard it from one of his friends work.

Dwarves did as well.
I personally would prefer that Thedas had no American accents at all to be honest.

WHAT?! An American accent on a human from a country based on England. If you want American accents, go watch a dumb mainstream film. I could understand if they gave an English accent to a City Elf or a Dwarf, but not a Fereldan human. How could you moan about such a cool accent. Just be glad Bioware didn't give Hawke a regional English accent. When Susan Boyle went on American TV, they subtitled her when her Scottish accent isn't even that strong. I can't understand most accents, but I can understand hers. If they gave Hawke a scouse or a geordie accent , most Americans probably won't understand them.

I have taken serious offence to this, by the way. (In case you haven't noticed)

His VA did an amazing job in Origins, I have no doubt that he'll be just as good in DA2. I'm going to have to play a manHawke eventually just to hear that voice. Image IPB

I must say, if you thought Steve Valentine did a bad job with Alistair then your standards for voice acting are absurdly high.

My voice acting standards are only high when it comes to English accents and trust me his effort was baaaad.
Asses instead of arses,  roat instead of route that's not how one speak the Queens english

I'm English too and I thought he was excellent. Things like that could just as well be the fault of the voice director, and the fact that Bioware uses US English in writing their dialogue.

Lol admittadly it would probably have to be a soft Geordie accent, otherwise no-one outside of Tyneside would understand what anyone is saying, not that it would ever happen anyway....(and while I'm half Geordie, and my fathers side of the family still speak with Geordie accents, I grew up in Kent, my fathers side of the family moved down here when the steel industry collapsed, so no not 'Pet' Image IPB)

But I'm intersted in hearing Lady Hawke's voice, not because I'm expecting her to have a different accent, but simply because I'm interested to see what she sounds like/how good her voice actresses is.

Each to own I guess Alisters accent is what annoyed me most about him it felt off and males hakews feels the same you get great dialogue but dogdy accents but like I said in earlier post that come with the terriotory and everybody gonna give a good performance (see jennifer Hale in Ground control and Kotor for examples)

Why US? If anything they use Canadian English.  :P

Anyway I understand how people are annoyed with the RP English but remember the 'posh' nature is something tied to the culture of our world. Not Thedas'. Even if you will not buy that, remember that Hawke is actually of the nobility (well, partly at least) :)

Hawke is from Ferelden, and Fereldians(?) have these types of accents, like how Orlesians have French accents.

I love his voice, I love his accent.

In fact, Anomalous American Accents in video game protagonists is a huge, huge, huge turnoff for me, huge enough that it could have spoiled my entire experience. Goddamn Altair in Assassin's Creed 1 sporting the ONLY AMERICAN ACCENT in the 12th century was so ridiculous. I hated it so much that it made me hate Altair, until he got a proper middle eastern accent in the PSP game ...

Tangent, anyways, I'm glad that Hawke has an english accent, and I'm glad that he sounds like an interesting person instead of another boring gruff badass like I was worried he would from his look. Thank god.

Hawke had an accent?

Was hard to tell with the utter lifelessness of his tone.

What do you guys think of Hawke's accent? I hoped they'd gone with more of a neutral sounding American accent, instead of a heavy British accent (I think). I really really dislike Hawke's voice.

Firstly, that would make no sense in the setting.

Secondly, why should the American accent be the default? American accents are extremely noticable for those of us outside your country. Just because it's neutral for you doesn't mean that it works for everyone.

Hawke's accent is typical pseudo-Received Pronunciation, as you might find in southern England. Not quite veering into the full Queen's English. Inf fact, he pretty much speaks as I speak.

I like his voice. But yeah giving him an American accent out of no where makes no sense.. The only way he would/should have one is if he was a Dwarf or raised by Dwarves. Plus his mother's nobility so it makes sense that he would have "posh" accent just like Carver..

Oops sorry didn't see the post. It's Nicholas Boulton (I think that's spelled right...), he did Ser Bryant, the templar in the Lothering chantry, and Vaughn from the city elf origin. And Howe's dungeon I suppose.

I actually like Hawke's voice even if it sounds slightly more posh than I would prefer, I'm sure once people start to actually play the game they'll grow a bit more accustomed to it.

What I REALLY want though is to hear what femHawke's voice sounds like! Poeple who played the demo said she was rather good. Would it really be too much to hope for a video featuring femHawke as well as male Hawke? If the first time I hear her voice is when I'm finally able to play the game, I will be sorely disappointed.

Em Flemeth and morrigan are from Irish mythology, not english!

I know who The Morrígan is/are, but what role does Flemeth play in Irish mythology?
I can't seem to find anything about her. If it's an anglicized name, what is she called in Irish Gaelic?
