Why bother with multi-player in a story driven game? I guess I could see co-op where a second player controls one of your squaddies, but I still think it's a waste of resources and disc space. I guess I am selfish enough to want every dollar and every byte of disc space focused on given Shepard's story the best finish ever.

Also that EA employee never said single player was dead, just games with no on-line components. That includes things like DLC. EA is going after the used games aggestively. That's why they have things like the Cerberus Network.

There was a screenshot from *mod room*, it showed a post by Chris Priestly. Apparently, Pacifien once locked thread saying "ME3 is a single player game", the press saw it as confirmation and it caused "nightmare" for BioWare's PR team and got all the way up to Casey Hudson. Priestly said that moderators are not to do that again.

I still have hope it'll turn out good, with or without multiplayer. If not, there's always Skyrim.

Im not sure I get that...You mean they took it down because there MUST in fact be a multiplayer?

Why would they freak out like this if there was not multiplayer?

Now they are causing "nightmare" to us.

Any number of reasons, chief among which would probably have to be their desire to control anything that could be construed as a definitive public statement on the issue either way by anybody who works for BW in any capacity.

Well, that doesn't mean they're not developing multiplayer for ME3 - it just means that it's going too far to take that whole thread-locking imbroglio as a sign that they are.

Red Dead Redemption was also in development for 4 years, had a team that's been building those exact kinds of games for more than a decade, and astronomical resources at thier call, because every Rockstar game sells 10-15 million units.  It can be done, but RDR is the exception to the rule.

The entire Mass Effect trilogy probably won't sell much more than half of what a typical Rockstar open world game sells, so Bioware won't get unlimted resources, they don't have an experienced crew of multiplayer devs, and from start to finish ME 3 is already  looking to be a little short on time in the oven for games of it's genre, at probably around 22 months from start to finish. If thier putting any effort into MP, it's just hard not to be worried about it taking away from the SP.

They're making an MMO.

You know, we could just keep debating the project and other side topics ad nauseum, or you can just do something else for the next 24 hours and find out what the "project" is. :P Alright, maybe it's better to just reveal what the project is to end the bickering back and forth. The Special Project is....

A birdhouse, shaped like EDI. Dun, dun, duuuuuuuun.

I'd buy it. I've tried loads of ways to get rid of these damn squirrels, but none seems to work.

From memory they also put up job postings for people with multiplayer experience too, but that might have just been a rumor.

Yeah, and the MMO team are working on the MMO.  MMO multiplayer interaction is also radically different from a shooter style that ME incorporates.

I'm not saying they hired a bunch of college students that never worked in MP.   Is it possible they could get it right?  Of course,  I'm sure they'll have good people working on it.  There are a lot of uknowns however.  Companies like Bungie and Rockstar, they have well gelled teams that have all worked together for years and years, and they know how to work with thier franchises and incorporate new things like multiplayer modes, make them work well and fit within the context of thier franchise.    That's a big part of the reason why those companies game's and multiplayer modes are so loved by thier fans.

That's not the case with Bioware, it's not the dedicated ME team building the MP, and it's not a group of people who have had years to gel together working together on Mass Effect MP.  There is going to be a learning curve, and when developers have either formed up a secondary team to do a MP component for a previously SP only franchise, or just decided to split up the SP and MP efforts, there are few times that it turned out well, and a whole lot of times it turned out poorly.  Bioshock 2's tacked on crap MP and shortened SP, AC Brotherhoods, halved SP over AC 2 and shallow MP, and Medal Of Honor's 4 hour SP campaign and inferior Battlefield Bad Company 2 rip off MP all being examples.

My point was that just because Red Dead Redemption pulled it off, doesn't mean a single thing about whether or not Bioware could pull off anything good with Mass Effect MP.

RDR is literally the only game I can possibly think of that actually pulled it off. It's merely an exception.

Jedi Academy had good single and multiplayer. I wish they had more siege (objective based) maps, though.

But if it was about multiplayer wouldn't he had tweeted: “Two more days till I MUST talk about my big work special. SH*T.”
???
Because fans are going to rip them apart. Which is only right.

Uncharted 2 is the textbook example of a single player series that busted out a great multiplayer suite while also delivering a superior single player game.

No one says the gameplay of a multiplayer mode has to be the same as single player. It could be just a ward on the Citadel where you just walk around and chat with people, then come together to play Mass Effect arcade games. ;)

If they do somehow integrate into the single-player game, then I'd feel a little better. As in something like Pinnacle Station but multi-player focused. Competitions, tournaments, competitive matches, team games. Some kind of Arena and Lobby only accessible through the Galaxy Map. I could live with that. They could also add some more multi-player integration within, I guess, like a social aspect and leaderboards.

Anything else... and it'd be uninspired generic pap.
